Hey. Does anybody know of a way to make a Super Smash Bros. d20 game? I would love to be a GM for one, but I have no idea on how to set it up. Also, could someone add Sonic the Hedgehog with it? That'd be awesome. Anyway, if anyone has anything to say about it, or a way to make it please let me know.

Well, Mario D20 (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=666813) comes rather close to being something of a Super Smash Bros. D20. It has a few entries for some of the characters used in SSB that are of races other than the ones that it allows for players.

If you are looking for a D20 that requires you to cause your opponent to lose only from going off the edge of a cliff or something, then you're out of luck. I will be willing to help you come up with rules for something like that though. Changing how combat works could be really tricky though.

First we should decide how the stats would work. Strength would still be mostly used for melee attacks and throwing stuff hard, but it would now also influence how far a character is knocked back by an attack. Dexterity would still be used for ranged attack rolls and an AC bonus, but it would also be used for jumping and basically recovering from being hit rather hard. Constitution would still be used to influence HP, but we are probably going to change how HP works. Constitution will probably be able to be used for damage reduction of some kind. Intelligence would be a measure of a character's magic-using ability and would influence all magical attacks. Wisdom would mostly be for defending against magical attacks. It may be used for recovering from effects like sleep too. Charisma would probably need to be used for something completely different. My guess for possible uses would be things that depend on luck (like what kind of turnip Peach pulls up) and being used as a requirement or bonus to things that don't really have much to do with the other stats like having additional forms to switch between (Zelda/Sheik, Samus/ZS Samus, and Pokemon Trainer) or a cohort (Ice Climbers).

Second, we would need to figure out how the whole thing with knocking another character away would work. Perhaps expressing knockback as a fraction of some sort. The first number would represent forward movement while the second would represent a change in altitude. To give an example, 1D4/1D6^. That would basically mean that the attack would send the opponent back 1d4 spaces and up into the air 1d6 spaces. The number of spaces wound then be multiplied by the amount of damage the opponent has taken divided by the opponent's maximum HP (which would work like the damage percentages in a way). After the opponent moves that distance, they make a reflex save to stop moving from the attack. If they succeed by a large enough amount, a fraction of the movement may be taken off. If they fail, they move the same amount again, but a special weight modifier is applied to the vertical distance. Let's just say that the normal weight modifier for a character would be expressed as 1/2. That would be multiplied by the vertical distance and then subtracted (or added if it turns out to be negative) from the vertical distance moved. That weight modifier would also be applied to both parts of the opponent's knocked back movement after they hit a solid surface. All of the movement would be rounded down.

After that, we would need to decide how to balance attacks between how much damage they do and how far they knock an opponent. I don't think I could handle something like that.

After doing all of that, it might be possible to have a workable battle system that would resemble SSB combat. I'm sure that I forgot a bunch of stuff, and I'm sure that some of the wording might have to be changed a bit. However, I'm sure that this might inspire someone to try perfecting some kind of SSB-styled D20 battle system.

Alright. Maybe that is a bit too complicated. Especially for me. Very simple mind, ya know. How about this. Instead of it being exactly like SSB, let's do it different. Like a storyline. They don't get knocked off to die, they actually die like on DnD. A campaign version of SSB, where they are all together. Like a team, and they are trying to take down whoever the villain of the game is. You could use villains from each video game, and even the henchmen from each one to get a very good variety. Do you understand what I am trying to create? I'm not very good at trying to tell someone.

Maybe start off like this. Each character(that the people select to be) are gathered together because the other characters(that weren't selected) are taken hostage. You don't even have to do that, but that is just an idea. Now the free characters have to save the others by going from world to world. See what I am saying?

Well, Mario D20 (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=666813) has some stuff that might work. It can pretty much be used to create the characters that could be found in the Mushroom Kingdom (Mario, Luigi, Wario, Peach, Bowser, Yoshi, and any others that I forgot), and it also has stats for Kirby, Metaknight, Waddle Dee, Pikachu, a couple of other pokemon, and metroids. It might be a good place to start.

I guess that would be a great way to get all of those people. Maybe it is going to be much more easier than what I was expecting. I have just gotta add Sonic and his crew to it, and I guess it'll be doing.
