Bait the Bard

{ OK, this is going to be a serious RP thread, for all those people who enjoy lengthy and interesting RPs. So, no short posts, lots of description and detail. It will be a roleplay, but remember you are not invincible, so if someone swings a sword at you, RP weather you are hit or not, but you will be hit sometimes. Also, try to have correct spelling and punctuation please. Line breaks will be most appreciated.

It will take place in an ancient, undergroud tomb complex, like those in Egypt or Arabia. I will be the NPCs and my bard, while you will be the character of your choice. As in a D&D adventure, a good variety of classes will be useful.

All characters will be around 7th level, so nothing too powerful. You can be any race, but if you are +LA races your characters class will be of lower level.

Any mosters will be of around equal power to the party, so don't fish out the MM to see how good my skeletons really should be.

PS - expect lots of undead and strange stuff. }

The entrace to the tomb was well concealed amongst the sandy, wind swept ruins of the ancient city. It was once a great center of trade, but long ago a terrible necromancer cursed the sity, and scince all it once inhabitants have been trapped in a state of eternal depth. It was ruled by the great and wise king, Thutamenk, who, it was said, had managed to flee the city before its end, leaving all his wealth behind. Hearing these tales, a band of brave adventurers went in search of the city, and after many weeks in the desert eventually found it, and the entrace to the tomb, in the great wastes.

The tunnel was dark, but the flickering torchlight showed up some ancient writings engraved into the walls, and the floor of the tunnel was now deep with the sand of the ages. It heads down into a small room, with the skulll of another ill fated adventurer lying in one corner. Three corridors lead off the room, one to each the east, north and south, the westen end being the enrace itself.

What will you do?

{ I'm going to wait till some people check in, either by posting here ( must RP ), or by PMing me, then I'll bring out the monsters. }

Timidly, Alzar kicks the skull, to make sure that it's truly dead, and not some monster lurking. Alzar was hired by the party to be their guide, and some guide he turned out to be. They party had gotten lost no less than a dozen times, and any time anyone thought they saw anything on the horizon, Alzar would curl into a little ball, and cower. Everyone considered him to be utterly useless. The two large scimitars he kept on his belt had never left their scabbards, not even during that unfortunate run-in with the raiders. All in all, every single member of the party had regretted bringing him, especially Alzar himself, who regularly babbled about how much he would have liked to have been back in the city. Not just that, but heavy robes and the massive turban he wore had started to smell.

Sensing the Alzar's unease, Dryk reassuringly places a large, meaty hand on the guide's shoulder. "Do not fear, my friend. You are in safe hands." Standing about eight feet tall, Dryk seems composed of both ogre and human heritage. He is clad in a suit of loose-fitting studded leather, with a rather brutal looking greatsword slung across his back. Buckled to his waist are a some small pouches and vials, a number of which seem to be filled with bizzarre glowing liquid. Upon his left shoulder is perched an owl, its head darting quickly from side to side as it surveys its surroundings.
Though imposing, he does not seem fierce, and indeed his face bears a deeply contemplative expression.

{OOC - My character Dryk is a Neutral Good half-ogre Fighter 1, Sorcerer 6, with an Owl familiar. He specialises in blasting spells, but dabbles a little in healing as well}

{OOC - Oh yeah, what race are you, Alzar?}

Cautious, the young human being I was walked slowly behind his stalwart companions, unprepared and unwishing to throw myself directly, foolishly, into a scary crypt I knew naught of. More of an acute observator and thinker than a merry fellow, I kept a respectable distance from my comrades since our departure. Bluntly exiled from a tyrran temple, its proud leaders blinded by the fold of "just retribution", I was found alone, desperate to find something to live by, until I hopefully heard of that enterprise, a mission to reach a now deserted city.

Wearing nor armor nor weapons, wearing only modest clothes, or even wealthy rags, I entered carefully in the dark crypt, conscient that the lack of martial training I suffered at the temple would be an important hindrance in these caves, and that a mighty paladin would've been more at his place than the renegade theorician I was. Soon enough, an embranchement presented itself to our dimmed sights, complicating our reflexions, offering me a grim impression that a mind numbing maze, beyond that border, could be awaiting us.

"Which path to take?", I muttered, preferring not to directly ask Alzar my question, while still knowing he should have been the one to lead us boldlessly.

((Alzar is a Human Male, Ranger 7. And he's a scaredy cat))
Alzar jumps when he feels Dryks' hand on his shoulder. He spins around, and takes a few steps back, and then realizes with releif that it's only his comrade.
"Next? Where do we go next? Well, we found the tomb, didn't we? Can we go home now?"

Dryk grins at his companion's last remark, evidently not sharing Alzar's aprehension. "Nay. We must press on, for bounty awaits those who would brave these dark passages." He closes his eyes, contemplating their situation while his owl {named Ulla} stirs restlessly on his shoulder. After a moment he opens his eyes again and points straight ahead. "The central path," he mutters quietly.

{Come on, we need more people. Someone join in!}

"What? The Central path? As in the Main Path?! Why would you go down that path? Why don't we find some nice, small passageway, that's well lit, and leads to... a broom closet or something!?"

As the brave adventureers were having a loud discussion about weather to head down the main corridor, for the left hand corridor came a noise like a 10 ton golem stomping down a hallway. The sound echoed around the cramped spaces, the sound only muffled slightly by the amount of sand. Though the hall was dark, the glow from their torches seemed to show, somewhere down the corridor, a large mass, radiating a slight purple glow.

And, unbeknownest to the adventures, their arrival had set off a series of events planed long ago, by some of the most powerful mages ever to have existed...

Outside a sandstorm was brewing, seemingly natural enough, but it remained just outside, blocking all vision and hearing from out of that area, and effectivly sealing them off from the outside world.

Dryk's familiar, the owl, was becoming more and more agitatated. it was hopping from foot to foot, making small hoots ocassionly, for it could sense, from its magical nature, that things were not going as was seen..

{I will also be playing my human bard, Delwyn, but only in a support role, and after some others have posted. }

Alzar jumps for the door, but comes short when he sees the horrible sandstorm brewing. He stands in the doorway, ready to dart either direction, if need be.
