It was thought to be a variant of the common flu, then people began to die. If caught before it progressed, this new disease was easy to handle and cured without any lasting effects but, without any medical aid the affected would linger in pain and finally die in a grotesque spasm. In the normal world , after the victim succumbed to the disease, they would be taken to a special containment vault to await autopsy and then a nice funeral.. But this isn't the normal world.... or would it ever be .. for they would rise from the unknown in 1d6 hours, ready to move about and spread the disease that initially killed them. Sar Zombies differ from traditional zombies in the following manner : * They are not mindless, they do suffer a negative modifier to their intelligence (they are dead after all) * They retain their speed in unlife as it had in its life * Humans can only become Sar Zombies Creating a Sar Zombie "Sar Zombie " is a template that can be applied to any human whose constitution has dropped to 0 due to failing a fortitude check to withstand being infected with SARS. Challenge rating:1/2 medium size Type: Creature type changes to undead Hit Dice: Increase to d12. However, these zombies don't gain a bite attack (so I'm guessing its just flavor), and second, how do you get more than one bite attack at one time. Zombie A bites you, make a save, then zombie B bites you, make another save...etc. So, does the DC just keep getting higher for every zombie that bites you ever...if so, this DC should be like 2 or 3, or maybe even higher. |
| ScS07-26-07, 03:31 PM | Great idea Kaostym, Here's a couple of things to help you flesh out the idea: The full name of the contagion was SARS, or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. In a lot of ways it was a kind of super-cold; it was mostly harmless, but to people with compromised immune systems it was deadly. This led to some tragic chain reactions when the elderly died and all of their similarly aged friends and family contracted the disease at the funerals. SARS, like many more benign diseases, originated in China, where the outbreaks were covered up. Toronto was best known for the SARS outbreak, which crippled its tourism that year - so much so that the city held a concert (commonly known as SARS-stock) to boost tourism. So... What if several major cities picked up the bug, but refused to report the outbreak for fear of panic? The cannibalistic tendancies might be caused by dementia brought on by a compromised respiratory system. SARS was airborne, so you might end up with a scenario more like Romeros movies, where people rise from the dead without being bit. |
| Freakishbob07-30-07, 02:09 PM | you could also use the virus Solanum Solanum Works by traveling through the bloodstream, from the initial point of entry to the brain. Through means not yet fully understood, the virus uses the cells of the frontal lobe for replication, destroying them in the process. During this period, all bodily functions cease. By stopping the heart, the infected subject is rendered "dead." The brain, however, remains alive but dormant, while the virus mutates its cells into a completely new organ. The most critical trait of this new organ is its independence from oxygen. By removing the need for this all-important resource, the undead brain can utilize, but is in no way dependent upon, the complex support mechanism of the human body. Once mutation is complete, this new organ reanimates the body into a form that bears little resemblance (physiologically speaking) to the original corpse. some bodily functions remain constant, other operate in a modified capacity, and the remainder shut down completely. This new organism is a zombie, a member of the living dead. symptoms: Hour 1: pain and discoloration (brown-purple) of the infected area. Immediate clotting of the wound (provided the infection came from a wound). Hour 5: Fever (99-103 degrees F), chills, slight dementia, vomiting, acute pain in the joints. Hour 8: Numbing of the extremities and infected area, increased fever (103-106 Degrees F), increased dementia, loss of muscular coordination. Hour 11: paralysis in the lower body, overall numbness, slowed hear rate. Hour 16: coma. Hour 20: Hear stoppage. Zero brain activity. Hour 23: Reanimation. Traits. Physically the now created zombie has all the same physical attributes (Str.) They would have no constitution because the only way to kill a Solanum infected zombie is to damage the brain. there intelligence is somewhere beneath instinct (so somewhere between 1-3 int) example " One field case showed a human standing at one end of a collapsed bridge with several dozen zombies on the other side. one by one, the walking dead tumbled over the edge in a futile attempt to reach him. At no time did any realize what was happening and change their tactics in any way. they only way to fully kill the virus is to burn it.
