The morning dawns brightly, promising another hot and sunny day on the Sword Coast. Sunlight streams through the windows of the inn at Dockview, home of the Silver Tears adventuring company, a little more than a dozen miles from the bustling metropolis of Waterdeep. The inn is quiet, but the shutters stand open, windows partially open to let in the cool breeze that drifts idly through the town. The breeze worries the sign for the inn, which swings silently above the door.

http://www2.gvsu.edu/~klitzkee/rpg_center/images/silverlyre.jpg

The building is solid, wood and brick with a tile rooftop that seems perhaps a touch out of place among the thatched roofs of most of the other buildings in Dockview. It stands below a high hill, along the roadway through the walled town that winds from Waterdeep to Amphail Village and beyond. Nearer to Waterdeep stands the temple to Shaundakul, the forge, houses and the like. Beyond the inn stretches more homes, the high hill, and the small stand of woodlands untouched by the townsfolk that houses a small shrine to the Forest Queen. It is perhaps not the largest town still in Waterdeep’s skirts, but it is certainly not the smallest, and may well be the best defended.

Dawn finds one of the proprietors of the Silver Lyre, Amaya Silverblood, still abed. This is not the case for the other.

Faedren Darktwin, the second of the Silver Lyre’s proprietors, tugged a clean shirt on over his head, then ran a hand through short-cropped hair the color of silvered steel, shot through with strands of brown-gold. He casts a glance over toward the still-sleeping Amaya, smiling faintly. He reaches over and gently tucks a blanket up over her a touch closer before tugging on soft leather boots and creeping from their living quarters, into the inn’s common room. His first order of business is to open the windows of the common room, to let the morning breeze in, before he unlocks the door. The inn has been empty of late, quiet but for the townsfolk, but the bard knows that things will pick up again – they always do.

He moves to the kitchen, then, propping open the door, and steps into the airy space. He opens up the windows, then crouches before the firebox to stir up the embers into flames again. “Won’t be long,” he says to himself softly, “before folk start coming through. That’s the way of things, always.” He begins to whistle a soft and cheerful tune, of his own creation, and sets to cooking breakfast for the folk he knows will come.

* Small elderly man walks in wrapped in bright red robes and a pair of faded green trousers held up by green suspenders. His long gray hair is held away from his face by a rainbow colored hat. He smiles a big smile as he comes in and shakes the nights cold off by sitting in front of one of the windows*

" Here is as good as any" he comments in his sing song voice, removing his hat as is polite in side any building. Setting his things down neatly beside himmself he finds one of his two remaining copper pieces and sets in the the table, waiting to be served.

She had not been this way in a very long time. Years, yes it was years since she had been on the Sword Coast She sighed, glancing at the sky, taking the direction, and walked along, humming an old elvish tune.

She took a small hop over a root on the path, her long black earrings clinked and then settled. She peered at a sign in the road, making the switch in her mind from elvish to common.

Dockview.

Had she ever been there? If she had, she didn't remember. Too long, she laughed inwardly, far too long had she been away.

She liked the look of Dockview, perhaps more than she might if she were not so hungry. Breakfast would be excellent, she mused, wandering toward an inn. The Silver Lyre, read the sign above the door. Still, humming, she walked in.

"Good Morning," she said pleasantly, loud enough for anyone to hear. She gave the man juggling silverware a bright smile and then peered into the back of the room, looking for the proprietor.

The gray-skinned proprietor makes his way out of the kitchen, a fistful of mugs and a steaming pot of coffee in hand. Peering into the common room, he spots the folk he does not recognize. Hm. Travelers early today. That's fine, they'll just have to deal with the morning rush.

"Good morning," Faedren smiles, setting the mugs and the coffee pot down on the bar. "Feel free to help yourselves to the coffee -- tea'll be another moment; water's not hot enough yet. Full breakfast will be about another ten minutes, all you can eat, three silvers. My wife -- or someone -- should be in presently if you need more help. If no one shows, bang on the kitchen door, I'll be right out." He turns to move back to the kitchen stopping in front of the door, turning back to the pair in the common room with a grin. "By the way, welcome to the Silver Lyre."

"Good Morning," She replied in elvish, without thinking not to.

She took a seat near the counter, setting her bag on the floor. Three silvers was all right. There was something about the place she liked. She would wait for the tea.

An errant strand of hair tickled her cheek and she grinned inwardly, removing a pin from the pile of dark brown hair atop her head to re-capture what had come loose. Her hair was always coming loose.

She straightened her grey-brown skirt over her knees, settled her scimitars, and made sure her forest green sash was not caught anywhere. Pushing up the cuffs of her creamy blouse, she sat back and pulled a small leather bound book from her bag and began to read.

is startled when the others enter the room and not putting on a show for anyone but himself he stops abruptly and cringes as a knife hits the ground and skitters away. With a playful little smile he takes a seat, he looks at the owner and upon hearing 3 silver pieces cringes, his copper, once shining in his minds eye now seemed dull and useless, well he said three silver for all you could eat , mabye a copper could get him a plate? He took the time to look over the lady with the scimitars, if he were younger...

Yawning and stretching, golden-haired Amaya emerges from the living quarters off the common room. She rubs the last hints of sleep from her eyes, hair twisted into a thick braid that hangs down her back, bare feet barely whispering on the smooth plank floors. Easing the door closed behind her, she turns to regard the pair of customers with a smile. "Good morning, and welcome to the Silver Lyre. Has Faedren seen to you yet?"

Outside, the sound of bells ringing at the temple drifts through the town, accompanied by the sound of voices and laughter somewhere outside the inn, drawing nearer.

looksa at the women and smiles his crazy old man smile.
" No, but then again I don't need much seein' too", he pauses for a moment, mabye ashamed of his lack of money, " How much can a copper buy, a piece or two of toast mabye?" His voice sounds hopeful but he knows he will probally end up performing for money, which despite its perks was hard on the man, though he would never admit that. He would steal another glance at the women reading and smile to himself, remembering a time long gone when he could, without worry or any cares sit down and read a book.

Poor man. Fallen on hard times, has he? Well, I'm sure there's something we can do for that. Amaya smiles. "If it's all you have, sir, then keep it, and you eat your fill. Help with the cleaning up after breakfast, and we'll call it even."

With those words, the slender woman pads into the kitchen, emerging with more mugs and a pot of tea, setting them out on the bar. "Tea's up."

Outside, the voices and laughter grow louder -- one clearly the sound of a merry dwarf's gaffaw.

She looked up and smiled. "Good morning," she said to the woman who seemed to be their hostess. She stood, and walked to the counter and set down three silvers. Kindheartedness and good feelings, yes a wonderful place to have breakfast and maybe some news, but she would let the inkeepers work before pestering them with questions.

a young child of no older that 12 walks in the door. wearing a while silk tunic and a back pack of appropriate size for the child. the child doesn't seem like a child. the youngster seems much more refined. with fine blonde hair, and steel grey eyes that are as hard as their colou. the attractive child turns to the host briefly says "I would like a room for two nights please. I will pay you more than the cost not to ask questions about my appearance, nor comment quietly behind my back." the child says commandingly "you may call me Kami if you choose, but calling me Child will invoke my irritation" Kami than with a flick of an arm, swung the backpack off and reached in and proffered three gold coins as if they were copper rounds. Kami waited patiently not expecting instant service.

Frowning at the apparently impertinant child, Amaya crosses her arms, a moment, peering down at him. "First of all, little one, before you get a room here for the night -- as I know you could make Waterdeep yet today if I turn you out -- I'll need to know where your traveling companions might be. If you're alone, I might need to be sending you with a member of the Watch out to Waterdeep where they've the facilities to deal with wandering children."

The door of the inn thuds open, thanks to the hearty attentions of a still-chuckling dwarf. "Acch, the look on yer face, Elias...."

The half elf with him frowns. "I don't think there was anything funny about the look on my face, Briel. I really don't."

The dwarf just chuckles, lifting a hand in greeting to Amaya. "G'morrow, Amaya."

The disapproving look she was casting at the child melts into a smile as she nods in greeting to Briel. "Morning, Briel. Faedren should have breakfast up soon." She glances at Elias. "Morning, Elias. Room at the temple for a wayward child?"

The half elf raises a brow at that, but shrugs. "Mayhaps. Depends on the circumstances. What, exactly, are they?"

Amaya just glances down at the boy, then lets her gaze flick over to the slender cleric in silver and forest green.

"you presume much entirely based on appearance, magic does strange things to those who dabble in them excessively" Kami tells Amaya coldly "I would like a room in a quiet place to deal with my problem, and this seemed optimal" "I stupidly insulted a wizard and was returned to my child state, though only in physical traits"

"I travel alone, and I have been since waterdeep, my companions stopped there and planned to stay for a while" "I am not poor, and I am not underage timewise, intellectually, only physically" "So I wish a room for two nights after which I will be gone from this area"

Kami then turned to regard the cleric "you do not wish me anywhere near a temple. it would be very very bad. trust me."

Amaya frowns more as Elias suppresses a chuckle. "Deal with your problem, you say? I find it somewhat absurd that you didn't take care of it in Waterdeep, what with all the mages there. But, what's in the past is in the past. Sit yourself down, curb your tongue, and eat something before you try to do anything foolish. Mayhaps if you could describe the spell to me, I could reverse it myself." A hint of a wintery smile graces her lips. "We wizards can do that, you know."

Amaya just frowns slightly as the boy leaves, but shrugs it off -- what could she do about it, in the end? Elias offers her a wry smile.

"Can't help those that don't want it, Amaya," he offers. After a moment of thought and stepping over to pour himself some coffee, he casually adds, "Well. Unless they're your husband."

Carrying a tray laden with steaming breads -- sweet and otherwise -- from the kitchen, Faedren grunts, "I heard that, Elias, and I'll remember it next time you run out of spells and are in desperate need of some healing." After setting down the tray, the bard rakes a hand back through his hair, glancing toward the few patrons scattered among the tables. "Bread's up," he calls good-naturedly, then leans across the bar to steal a kiss from his wife before returning to the kitchen.

Outside, not far from the edges of town, the great shrill cry of a large bird-like creature rends the silence in two. From out of the clouds above, the creature soars out of the clouds of the noonday sun. Atop this giant, descending creature, a solitary figure stands, long red hair flowing wildly from her head. In fact, as the pair began to descend closer to the ground, curious citizens saw that it was, in fact, an adult roc soaring to the ground.

Still standing atop the roc, gazing down at the small town of Dockview was a red-haired Sun Elf with a bronze complexion and an unmoving stance. As the roc came within several feet of the ground, the standing elf leaped from its back, a cloud of dust rising about her feet as she landed. Emerald green eyes peered around, examining the surroundings of the small village with meticulous intensity.

O. o. This should suit well and, quite frankly, if they've tracked me this far, maybe I can gain a few allies. As for this Silver Lyre... .o. O

Looking around at the crowd, Khaira bowed and smiled a dazzling, disarming smile, her emerald green eyes twinkling with mischief. Turning around, Khaira smiled softly as the roc's beak softly nudged her shoulder. Moving up to it, she lifted two hands to stroke its beak fondly before murmuring to it in the language of the elvish people.

"Tira ten' rashwe, A'maelamin. Cormamin lindua ele lle rato*."

With that, Khaira moves down the street towards the Silver Lyre. She had been advised to come here by a trusted friend, and she only yearned that his words were trusted. It would be all too easy for a common enemy to deceive her and send her to her death...yet, she had escaped worse scrapes than this. She hoped.
Without another word, she pushed open the door, and walked through into the Silver Lyre. Once inside, she located a vacant table and, nodding cheerily to the inhabitants, made her way to a vacant table, settling herself into a chair to await the first attendant to come near her.

Still chuckling over the exchange between her husband and the resident cleric, Amaya hefts a pair of mugs in one hand, juggling pots of coffee and tea with the other. She heads over to where the red-head has seated herself. "Good morning, m'lady. Coffee and tea on the house, full breakfast -- all you can eat -- is three silvers, though even that's negotiable. Which would you prefer?"
Khaira

10-05-05, 09:24 PM
Khaira smiled and nodded to the kind woman, her eyes twinkling merrily, with untold mischief.

"A grand morning to thee, Goodwoman. I've had a very long and wearying journey. I will start out with only a cup of tea and some soup, if you have it."

Seemingly from nowhere, Khaira produced two gold coins, setting it on the table. Between the two coins, something silver seemed to stick out...
This woman knew full well that two gold was more than enough for payment, didn't she? Khaira leaned back ... this would either be her doom or her blessing.

"...and please, give these to Faedren. I do need to speak with him. Tell him ... a missing Harp has returned to sing of the world."

Khaira closed her eyes then, resting her weary eye lids, sighing wearily. It had been a long trip.

Amaya sets down a mug and pours some tea, deft fingers scooping up the sandwich of coins as she does so. Gods, Faedren, what's this now? Best not be anyone here to talk you into yet another suicide mission -- the last trip to Holdfast was more than enough for any and all of us. She slides them into a pocket in her apron, nodding to the woman. "I'll take them to Faedren presently. Call me Amaya, please -- I'll see about that soup as well."

A slight frown touching her lips, she makes her way back over to the smooth bar, leaving there the pots of coffee and tea as well as the extra mug. Elias raises a curious brow at her, looking beyond his dwarven companion, who is already tearing into a sweetroll the size of a pair of fists.

"Something amiss, Amaya?" The cleric calls.

The slender woman manages a smile. "I'm hoping not, Elias. Only time will tell." With that, Amaya slid into the kitchen, where Faedren tends to a skillet of thick bacon. She removes the sandwich of coins from the pocket of her apron, stepping up beside him. "From a lost Harp," she murmurs, trying to match the inflection of the woman in the common room. "But for the bronze skin, I'd say she's akin to your aunt."

Faedren glances toward his wife with a frown. "Akin to my...? Oh, akin to Jude. Odd." He glances toward the objects, fanned between her fingers, recognizing the silver between. He nods slowly. "Tell her I'll be along presently -- take that all back to her, I'm thinking. We'll spare a few on the house this morning, as usual." He rotates the skillet off the flame, leaning to kiss his wife's cheek. He withdraws after a moment, noting the tightness in her face. "What is it?"

Amaya shakes her head, smiling sadly. "Just worried, is all. We promised each other no more adventures."

"A promise I intend to keep." The bard steals another kiss. "Go on. I'll be out in a moment."

She nods, pocketing the coins again and picking up the plate he's just scraped the bacon out onto. "Is there some soup on?"

"There will be in a moment." He smiles and turns back to the stove as the mage slips from the kitchen. She walks back across the wooden floors to where the red-haired one sits and carefully sets the sandwich of coins back down on the table.

"On the house, my husband says," Amaya says quietly. "He'll be out in another few moments -- breakfast, you understand. Though I'm thinking that you could go and join him in the kitchen and he'd not mind overmuch. Just tell him I sent you."
Khaira

10-06-05, 10:21 PM
Softly, wordlessly, Khaira's warm hands, calloused by years of playing a harp and wielding blades, take a hold of Amaya's hands. Her hand sweeps across the table, causing the gold coins to dissapear, leaving a silver pin resting, face down, on the table. Her other hand clasps Amaya's palm softly and, still wordlessly, Amaya feels the cold, gold coins fall into her hand.

Khaira continues to hold Amaya's hands for a moment, smiling in understanding to her, her emerald green eyes offering their sympathy to her. Khaira turned to her cup of tea then, taking the cup with both hands. Sipping it slowly, she stares straight ahead, speaking softly.

"You do a good job for those who come here with doubt and fear in their hearts. Your kindness and generosity does not go un noticed, my lady..."

10-06-05, 10:53 PM
Amaya's smile is faint. "It's Amaya, please. And thank you." She slides the coins back into a pocket, lightly patting Khaira on the shoulder before moving back toward the bar. The faint sound of one of her infant children stirring reaches her ears, causing her to abruptly change direction, sliding through the door that leads to the living space she shares with her husband and their twin children.

The air in front of the tavern door shimmers for a moment and a tall, lean cloaked figure appears almost without sound. Features concealed by a grey hooded cloak, the figure is leaning heavily on what appears to be a simple wooden staff.

Thanks be to Mystra.
The figure murmers quietly before entering the tavern and slumping into a chair at the nearest empty table. The figure pushes his hood back to show the face of a young, dark haired human that might be around 20 years old. The clasp holding his cloak shut has a partial circle of seven stars and mist rising between them, the symbol of Mystra, Lady of Magic. The young man closes his eyes and leans heavily on the table, almost completely oblivious to his surroundings. His staff however floats upright at his side and will glow faintly if anyone comes within arms reach.

Khaira smiled and nodded to Amaya.Still staring straight ahead, she shook her head.

"No, Lady Amaya ... thank you. Tell Faedren to take his time; I am patient and I am in no hurry."

Khaira sat back then, sipping her tea as she watched Amaya went into the back room again, her face a content mask of patience. She idly wondered what manner of man this Faedren would be. As kind and loving as one of the Seven? As strict and unyielding as the Blackstaff? As ironic and quizzical as the Old Mage?
Her thoughts, again, strayed back to Zakhara, the Land of Fate and the Gana, the City of Pearls, where she had left her daughter. What had become of her? Who would she turn out to be? Had she been right in leaving her with her own "sisters"? Perhaps time would deliver her daughter to her before she receded into the Calling.
Her tone reminsicient, Khaira nodded at something.

"It is for this reason that I am in one of their ranks ... so that the world may be a better, greener place ... for my children..."

Flying around the big city invisible proabably wasnt the smartest idea, but RoaD made quite a few coins and a bit of string this morning. Adventuring for a Pixie wasnt all that they said it would be.

"A drink sounds nice...and a few more coins to collect would be nicer" says RoaD as he spots the sign to the Silver Lyre.
O.o Perhaps a disguise...nah
The pixie flies in the bar, hopefully unnoticed, and sees the fair elven maiden sitting near the bar. He then glances down to the bag thrown to the floor and back at the elf. The pixie moves silently over to the bag and reaches in attempting to pull out whatever he can get his hands on. After acheiving this task (upon the descresion of Daria) the flies off and finds the proprietors wife.
Flying up to Amayas ear he whispers "Scuse me miss, care to spare a bit of the mornin' dew for a thirsty pixie?"

Still invisible he sits upon Amaya's shoulder.

The misty day was a pleasant feel against this Mage of Light whiskery face
Smiling as he walked briskly by the many townsfolk’s this day
He came to a stop when he eyed a most pleasant sign proclaiming rest for the weary traveler such as he

The Silver Lyre

His long blond hair hung fancifully behind him as he removed his pointy hat
Then using that same well worn hat he brush ever so lightly against his colorful blue/white robe and cape at the back

This caused more than a little dust from the road to float off his tall lean body

After a moment or two this obvious dressed wizard looked into the sky as if eyeing something he knew
Then holding out his arm in a welcoming gesture a lovely snow owl flew down and landed ever so softly upon his arm.

“Ahh Lady Hoot how goes your jaunt this day?
I do hope well if for no other reason than to see you smile”

The wise white owl gave him a reassuring smile and nodded her feathery head
To many a surprise who past by it would seem this owl knew more than wisdom but the sound of speech as well
“Most well Agudo my friend and you?
Tell me what have you seen at this time of day?

Me!
Well you see I have come upon a wayward traveler’s beacon of hope
An Inn of nourishment and fine drink

Blinking her eyes she winked at her blond friend and without delay they made there way to the merriment within

Like magic the well worn door to the tavern inn open for them
As they entered in to see many a happy faces with Ale in there hands filed to the brim
The fresh smells of spices and sweet wines greeted them like welcoming lovers
Seeing that the place was pleasently busy yet the two travelers eyed an empty seat as if begging them to sit

Without delay they did and with a slight wave of his mystical hand that caused many of his colorful rings on his taned fingers to brightly sparkle
All in hope to catch a tavern winches attention

Elias, seated with his ever-grumbling dwarven companion, raises a brow at the man with the flashing rings. "Trying to get someone's attention, sir? The cleric rakes a hand back through his hair, wrapping his free hand around his mug of tea.

Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Faedren shifts the pot of stew a touch further off the burner so he can chance ducking out for a few moments. If it's important, the bard thinks, I'll just ask her to come into the kitchen and chat with me. That'll work. Right. Checking the pot one last time, Faedren ducks out of the kitchen. He glances around, seeing no sign of his wife, and frowns slightly.

"Tea and coffee on the bar, they come with breakfast. Breads are already up, everything else is on the way." He rubs at his brow. "Now, which one of you was the one that wanted to talk to me?"

A breeze from the propped-open door ruffles his silvery locks as he stands, merely surveying the bare handful of folk who have filtered in.

Checking the pot one last time, Faedren ducks out of the kitchen. He glances around, seeing no sign of his wife, and frowns slightly.

"Now, which one of you was the one that wanted to talk to me?"

Khaira looked to the man who was poking his head out of the kitchen, brushing a strand of auburn hair out of her face, before rising and bowing elegantly to this new figure. Could this, then, be Faedren, whom she was supposed to talk to?

"Good morning to thee, goodsir. I seek a Faedren and, if you are he, then I am the one looking to speak with ye. Considering your level of activity at this present time, I can come back, if ye have not the time presently to listen to me. I've yet to tour the city and partake in morning sustenance, after all."

The inn keeper poked his head out of the kitchen
Kindly proclaiming that tea was nearby for the helping and that breakfast would soon be served

This caused several voices to speak up from the crowded room
One feminine voice sounding strangely familiar to him.
With a perplexed expression the Light mage looked about

Yet another near by the bar, a cleric of some sorts
by the looks of his garb
Grabbed Agudo’s attention by commenting on his sparkling rings.

With a warm pleasant smile Agudo glanced at his fingers
“What these?
O yes well they do help makes a nice conversation peace between strangers
Don’t you think kind Cleric is it?

As he spoke he wiggled those same fingers containing the sparkling rings
That magically caused the near by tea pot to pure its steaming contents
Into a delicately made cup and saucer.

A stream of colorful magic dust followed the tea cup as it landed softly on the counter in front of Agudo and Lady Hoot

Taking a slow sip he then glanced to his side at the dwarf and cleric
Well may the Light shine on me brighter if I don’t remember my manners
This lovely white owl next to me and wise companion is Lady Hoot

The snow owl gave a polite nod of her head and spoke like all enchanted owls could
“Well met fellow travelers I hope we can share knowledge this day.

The mage then added
And I am Agudo Author of many books of Travel and History as well as Headmaster of my same named school of Light and Magic.

Then with a chuckle he continued
And a few more grandiose titles far to many to go into

Archwizards, why oh why must we have blundering, perky and flashy archwizards here and now? The young man in a grey cloak thinks to himself. Reaching out and grabbing his staff, he pulls himself up when tea is announced and speaks a soft word to call on a spell stored in the staff to wash away his exhaustion and renew his strength. I would have preferred to do things the mundane way, but archwizards that strive to show off always attract trouble and being half asleep when the inevitable arrives is unnacceptable.

Wandering over to pick up a cup of tea, he pulls out a small leather pouch and glances in for a moment before tossing the bag toward Faedren.
The bag has one small gem in it that could sell for around 30 gold without too much work and a note saying, "For any expenses related to my time here."

Turning toward Agudo, he comments quietly.
Are you always so spectacularly flashy, good sir?
Looking toward the cleric and dwarf and then back to Agudo:
In the interest of courtesy, I have been called Ellaran in the past and that name will serve well enough now. I am servant to Mystra and many less grandiose things on the side.

When he noticed a lean young mageling with the mannerism of one just out of apprentice school
Wearing a classic gray adventuring cloak and a straightforward if deceptively enchanted simple wooden stave.

This youthful Mage hesitated for a moment then with attention grabbing bravado tosses a small leather pouch at the tavernkeeper

Ellaran
Archwizards, why oh why must we have blundering, perky and flashy archwizards here and now? The young man in a grey cloak thinks to himself. Reaching out and grabbing his staff, he pulls himself up when tea is announced and speaks a soft word to call on a spell stored in the staff to wash away his exhaustion and renew his strength. I would have preferred to do things the mundane way, but archwizards that strive to show off always attract trouble and being half asleep when the inevitable arrives is unacceptable.

Wandering over to pick up a cup of tea, he pulls out a small leather pouch and glances in for a moment before tossing the bag toward Faedren.
The bag has one small gem in it that could sell for around 30 gold without too much work and a note saying, "For any expenses related to my time here."

Lady Hoot was sitting quietly on Agudo shoulder could not help but be surprised at such flamboyant actions by the youthful gray cloaked fellow
Then slowly she and Agudo took note of others in the cozy cantina

Several less than savory heads also eyed the obvious gratuity while pretending to drink mugs of ale. As quickly pretending they did not see what took place went back to there drunken whispers.

Seemingly unaware of the unsavory eyes from behind the gray cloaked lad spoke rather forwardly to Agudo

Ellaran
Turning toward Agudo, he comments quietly.
Are you always so spectacularly flashy, good sir?

Putting down his tea cup with a slight clatter Agudo looked on with a bemused look on his face chuckled
Yet before speaking he reached into the folds of his blue/white robe taking out a corncob pipe
“Flashy you say?”

Agudo winked at the nearby Dwarf and Cleric
As is if reconfirming his before made statement
of things flashy make nice conversational peaces between strangers.

And with those words the well used pipe lit up as if and most likely by magic If the on looking cantina patrons were brave enough to bet their drinking money it would be the latter.

Leaning slightly back Agudo took a few puffs filling the area around him with the sweet smell of apple cinnamon.

“Perhaps no more flashy than your obvious display of wealth or from what I heard around town..... your earlier magical and may I say...
flashy shimering entrance through the tavern door“

The Light Wizard glanced at the small pouch that hid promises of small treasures that Ellaran had just tossed over to tavern keeper

Then with his free hand tossing his long blond hair over his shoulder.
Agudo refocused his attention of the gray robe mageling before him.
Most Arcane users of the Arts have an unseen aura about them proclaiming their power.

Hmm Agudo thought
A young and with manners of a wide eyed Apprentice....
But his magical aura seems to proclaim more than meets the eye.

It was then that young man regained his manners and spoke once more.

Ellaran
Looking toward the cleric and dwarf and then back to Agudo:
In the interest of courtesy, I have been called Ellaran in the past and that name will serve well enough now. I am servant to Mystra and many less grandiose things on the side.

Lady Hoot took this opportunity to speak up
Hail and well met fellow traveler of the Realms
I am Lady Hoot Cleric of Light and High Priestess at the Agudo School of Light and Magic
We are weary travelers like you and would be honored to have you join us Arcanist Ellaran.

Agudo nodded his head and smiled brightly
“
Yes yes! Please do fine fellow
As my feathery friend has stated we are frrom my school
I am Headmaster Agudo on a short jaunt to complete my two lattest books called

( Fashion and the Wizard )
and
(Agudo Travel Guilde #5 Taverns & Inn's )

Then with slight wave of his hand that held his sweet smelling corncob pipe he poited towards Faedren
Besides alll our travels have been long and leaves us in need of rest nourishment.
I dont think you wish to insult are host
it would be rude to leave before the barkeep serves his hard made food to us”

Space here formerly used for arguments, that while I may consider accurate were not useful to this thread.
END OOC:

Ellaran's eyes narrow as Agudo is speaking, by the time Agudo is done, his attention is obviously elsewhere and he looks worried.
Something is wrong, yes the man was foolish and yes he is inflating minor points and making assumptions but there is rage growing in me and that does not belong. This conversation should not have begun in fact. Exhaustion isn't the reason, I dealt with that already. Oh blast! Power much less pleasant than Ellaran's becomes evident around him.

Ellaran refocuses on Agudo and his holy symbol and staff start shining with silver light that is almost painful to look on. Ellaran is swiftly surrounded by that light. As an odd contrast, his eyes have turned black.
I'd almost owe an apology for the interruption but we're about to have a problem. I do owe an apology for what's about to come. I should not have come into settled lands just yet. You might want to get back. Protect the people, first; yourself second and the me if you can get around to it.

Ellaran looks upward and whispers.
Mystra, preserve them.
Then black flames makes a short leap out of him in the general direction of Agudo only to be contained within the field of silver light surrounding Ellaran. Ellaran falls to one knee and his face goes pale as whatever dark magic is moving through him strives break free of the light.

(((OOC Ahhh questions within questions where shall I begin? :)

How about here.....

MaskedOne
Agudo can see through leather? Most people can't and you have made no mention of magical enhancements. Admittedly Ellaran is being a little notable and something is certainly notable about the tossed pouch but all that was visible to a human eye that is not sitting over Faedren's shoulder was a tossed pouch. For all most people know, copper coins

I agree! You answered your own question with great style and intellect
I applaud your efforts

But allow me to add and yes go over once more some past info

That and the tossing of the bag in front of others clearly (Could) grab anyone in eye shot and ear for that matter
of what it was for...AKA payment
As far as what was in it....that wasn’t the point of Agudo comment
It was about ((flashy))
not wealth do to Ellaran own comment to Agudo of such word.

As far as the rest of your first question ....

Maskedone
........ Most people can't and you have made no mention of magical enhancements.

This is a trick question since you proclaimed in your OCC

Maskedone
Also notably, while the town may not see wizards every day. Toril is a very high magic place and if memory serves the inn is near Waterdeep which has 2 Chosen of Mystra in residence, a decent supply of other wizards and representatives of over a dozen species up to something at any given moment. A person appearing out of thin air might impress the children but I doubt it would be much more than idle gossip for the rest of the town unless the person makes a point of being flamboyant.

Once again you have answerd your own question most impressively
If and I say IF......the town folks are not impressed by teleportation spell then im sure the most simple of Cantraps like
((seeing through a leather pouch))
would be nothing for two wizards like Agudo and Ellaran

And for the answer ((no))
Agudo did not cast the spell to see through such bag

For as stated before in your IC post and OOC by Ellaran tossing it so everyone close by could see the bag....it was a payment/tip ...AKA wealth.

But just so everyone knows Agudo did not say he was an Archwizard
But your post shows he knew......
Ellaran
Archwizards, why oh why must we have blundering, perky and flashy archwizards here and now?

Yet like Agudo with the Flashy Bag of Wealth that Ellaran tossed
Agudo could just add up the basic information before him

I can see why Ellaran thought Agudo was so powerful ....many things about Agudo proclaims such....so it was no big deal that Ellaran could figure it out

Also on a side comment this tavern is in a town that’s well fortified outside several miles of waterdeep the city

Judesedai
the inn at Dockview, home of the Silver Tears adventuring company, a little more than a dozen miles......... It stands below a high hill, along the roadway through the walled town that winds from Waterdeep to Amphail Village and beyond.

Poor folk’s fishermen farmer’s blacksmiths and middle class mayor/shopkeeper
would still be surprised even impressed to see a powerful teleportation spell.

One reason its something they can’t do!
Even if they did see it allot
Most mages can’t do that until a high enough level of training
It says too all...
im just that powerful in magic....nothing wrong with it mind you :)

Try to see it this way...in the mid 1800 most western folks in the USA had side arms pistols and horses
But when a gunslinger AKA someone who can use that gun faster and more deadly than others
came to town (a Stranger)
with his fast horse and coins to spend in the bar/store
Most would notice him...for the

**farmer blacksmith store owner and so on**

can’t shoot a gun that fast and few dress for the open range plus spend money like the gunslinger does
And there maybe several gunslingers about town for whatever reason visiting living that can as well.

Yet they all stand out

That’s why Agudo said gossip in mentioning Ellaran teleportation spell....you still standout

Now on with your grand and well made post)))

*******
Agudo practically jumped back knocking over that bar stool and tea
Lady Hoot flapped her wings to keep her balance on her friends now tense shoulder
Even (some) of the town’s folks jump up and screamed at such powerful deadly magic

Plus the words said by Ellaran scared them even more

Ellaran

....refocuses on Agudo and his holy symbol and staff start shining with silver light that is almost painful to look on. Ellaran is swiftly surrounded by that light. As an odd contrast, his eyes have turned black.
I'd almost owe an apology for the interruption but we're about to have a problem. I do owe an apology for what's about to come. I should not have come into settled lands just yet. You might want to get back. Protect the people, first; yourself second and the source of whatever threatens last.

Ellaran looks upward and whispers.

Then black flames makes a short leap out of him in the general direction of Agudo only to be contained within the field of silver light surrounding Ellaran. Ellaran falls to one knee and his face goes pale as whatever dark magic is moving through him strives break free of the light.

A Halfling maiden with tears in her eyes ran out the door
“Hellllpppp he gone mad I tell ye”

The blue and white robe Wizard spoke hastily and loudly
“Barkeep!
Stay back...... its seems Ellaran the wizard can’t control whatever dark magic that has taken control of him

Lady Hoot began to hum a Clerical inspirational hymn in an (attempt) to strengthen Ellaran spirit

OOC:
Look up, I removed the arguments for a reason. I've basically admitted with in-character post that Ellaran was being foolish. I have an equal view of Agudo's activities but defending Ellaran takes time and energy and really isn't worth it.

Minor note before I abandon that subject completely. "For any expenses related to my time here" was written on a small scrap of paper in the bag with the gem. I typically put speech in color. Ellaran's actions may (probably) have been eyecatching but he did not say anything about the contents of the bag.

"The Ellaran" below when the apparition is speaking is not a typo. I have it there for a reason.

It was one shock after another for ((some)) of the not only was there powerful magic about from Ellaran
But now a spirit from the after life like double of him haunting the tavern

A fat dwarf holding his ale looked at his drink then at the ghost with wide eyes
“By me long beard if I be drinking nay another ale to soon may me hair fall out

Even Agudo slowly turned his head with some concern to look behind him
“Well now may the Light shine on me brighter this day if it isn’t a specter!
What has caused this to be Ellaran?”

Lady Hoot yielded to the haunting voice and stops her hymn
easily turning her head all the way around like most owls could

This act of head turning by the owl plus the sight of a ghost was to much for the drunken dwarf
He fainted right then and there

The apparition shakes its head.

I am no dead soul. I am a contingent enchantment formed with a portion of the Ellaran's life force set to activate should circumstances such as this occur. I am formed to minimize the damage to bystanders. The key to what occurs before you is in the name that you know the Ellaran by. Ellaran is an ancient term for prison. The Ellaran adopted the term as his name to remind himself of what he does.

The apparition glares at the black flame.

A forcecage might be a wise move, just make certain that no part of it touches the silver light unless you wish to test your protective spells. Moving on, a few short years ago the Ellaran encountered a Lord of the Hells loose upon Toril. Incapable of banishing this creature in any way that would last and unable to destroy it. He made of himself a trap. He lured the creature into an attempt at possession and once the creature entered him, he bound it into a cage formed of faith, will and magic. Since then, the creature has for the most part been completely contained. It can occasionally whisper to him but rarely more. This day is one of five exceptions and the only one to occur when he was stuck in a settled land. It is also the only one to occur in the last 2 years. The demon tricked him, allowing him to believe recent enchantments had perfected the cage and then it waited for him to become exhausted enough to be unable to stop it easily. At least that is the theory that the Ellaran formed before his mind became too focused on the battle for me to update. I know little more, except that the light is a form of containment and defense. If it fails then the creature can leave the Ellaran or at least act upon its immediate surroundings. It wants a new host, complete control of the Ellaran is beyond it. Too many failsafes block such. Some form of aid may be necessary to defeat the creature but I don't know how one could intervene mystically without triggering the defenses and stepping into the light leaves you vulnerable to the enemy. An archmage may be able to break through the defenses in the Ellaran's weakened state but doing so risks the dispelling of the light.

As the apparition speaks, the black flames turn back from the walls of the cage to slash at Ellaran. There is no visible harm but Ellaran closes his eyes and sweat is beginning to form. It also seems that while the light prevents the flame from reaching anyone else it will not stop the flames from striking at Ellaran because they are passing through him without pause.

Turning away from the specter the wise white owl whispers in Agudo ear and after a moment nods.
“Yes very wise of you Lady Hoot”

The brushing absentmindedly his blue and white robe and cape with one hand Agudo ponders the situation for a moment.
“It would seem that endangering the good folks of this town would not be wise
We have several clerics about us and I’m sure more could be summoned perhaps Banishment could be tried

Then as if forming an idea the Light Wizard mumbles
Or even a powerful spell called Imprisonment would work.
It would send the Ellana to s safe but secure dimensional pocket for eternity

Then waving his hand as if collecting his thoughts
And yes in time or so perhaps those who gave him what he calls Ellana.... this prison magic in the first place can as well come up with a cure.

Of course he may be trapped forever with his curse it up to him.

They both turn back to the specter ghostly thing of Ellana waiting for an answer
MaskedOne

The apparition looks at the pair without expression as Ellaran opens glowing eyes and the flames are temporarily held back from him as well as contained.

The battle must first be contained. There is one inherent danger to either banishment or imprisonment. The creature is contained within the Ellaran but it is also protected there. You must break the shields first. While that is well within the power of an experienced archmage or cleric right now, doing so will grant the enemy a chance at freedom. Such an assault would need perfect timing or an extremely well defended pair of spellcasters. It may be possible to bypass the shields but that would require more lore about protective magic than most wizards living can concieve of.

As for curing his position as the Ellaran. This is not a disease or a curse. He can let the creature go whenever he sees fit provided that certain conditions are met. He contains it because he does not control the power needed to get rid of it and refuses to see it loose upon the face of Toril.

I am nearing the edge of what I'm allowed to say but you are suffering under a slight misperception. There is no one else that the Ellaran knows with this particular form of prison spell. It took weeks of research in several different libraries, a great deal of supplication to Mystra and more than a few modifications to several pre-existing spells to forge the prison. I believe the creature was imprisoned an age ago by different means but knowledge of those methods and their makers is not available to me. I know only that the makers are gone, their nation destroyed. Nor should you consider me to be the Ellaran's personal advocate. I exist solely to advise on how to protect the populace against the evil that the Ellaran contains. I am deliberately fashioned in such a way that the desires and well being of my maker are relevant only if they lead to successful completion or at least continuance of his self appointed task.

As the apparition speaks, black flames lift up a chair that happened to fall within the field of light and start dismantling it, each piece starts reforming and glowing. The apparition does not seem to notice what is occuring but to Agudo's experienced eye, the fiend is obviously creating physical weapons to use against its captor. With sufficient enchantment, the final products of its work will be able to pierce even the mightiest of personal protective spells. Ellaran seems either unaware of the fiend's work or incapable of interfering at this moment.

Once more the two traveling companions conferred with each other pondering the words of this strange specter

Every once in awhile one would nod there head as the other would whisper something
Agudo even took out a few parchments from his carryall pack and pointed out strange archaic writings

After a moment they stopped as he put away the parchment
then speaking to the ghostly specter of the Ellaran he frowned

It would seem to be unwise to go inside an unknown magical self proclaimed trap and the key word seems to be a trap.....to deal with something we have known knowledge of.

Shaking his head the Wizard of Light continued
“I’m afraid your word alone isn’t enough specter for you said

Specter Ellaran
The creature is contained within the Ellaran but it is also protected there. You must break the shields first. While that is well within the power of an experienced Archmage or cleric right now, doing so will grant the enemy a chance at freedom. Such an assault would need perfect timing or an extremely well defended pair of spellcasters. It may be possible to bypass the shields but that would require more lore about protective magic than most wizards living can conceive of.

That’s seems to be the last thing we would want to do is take a chance and free it
For this so called wizard or whatever he or it is has incased itself in its own devise for whatever reason.

Eyeing the specter the Light Wizard continued with concern in his voice
You said that’s this is a powerful spell that has been changed from other known spells

Specter Ellaran
There is no one else that the Ellaran knows with this particular form of prison spell. It took weeks of research in several different libraries, a great deal of supplication to Mystra and more than a few modifications to several pre-existing spells to forge the prison

Supposedly as you said taken from many different books of the Arcane in a matter of weeks.
I would think that’s why this magical cantrap is not working so well....for you see
Changing the parameters of any spell can not be taken lightly
Months of experimentation with different environments should be done
Let alone several spells over a few short weeks

Then as if remembering something Agudo thought out loud
“You know Hoot this situation reminds of that good Wizardly fellow in the city of Iriabor
You know the one who lost his spell casting abilities in a tavern strangely just like this.

Snapping his fingers in hopes that the name would come to him

What was his name?

((OOC for those who enjoy the Forgotten Realms sagas
I highly recommend the book called Realms of Magic the 3rd story page 51
by Mark Anthony the Magic Thief ))

His feathery companion chimed in with her soft voice
Morhion Gen’dahar a skillful and respected Wizard of his land.

The lovely snow owl lightly chuckled at the memory of how the two wizards had met
It was at the Mages Sundry Shop by the main gate of Iriabor.
Morhion Gen’daha was at a table hocking his direr book of personal experience
with such vigor than one would say it was almost religious.

For that reason caused Agudo to strike up a conversation with him.
Being a fellow writer he was intrigued by this man's zeal in getting the word out of his shocking saga.
Agudo started the conversation with simple vanity joke
.....is it true what they say of tall fair haired wizards?....
This caused Gen’dahar to laugh being that both had a slight passing resemblance to each other.

The owl came out of her musings see that her friend was ready to speak

Agudo smiled flipping his long blond hair behind him
Ahh yes a dashing fellow whos manuscript of Magic Thieves should be a warning to us all!
For you see thy own words specter Ellaran

specter Ellaran
....I believe the creature was imprisoned an age ago by different means but knowledge of those methods and their makers is not available to me. I know only that the makers are gone, their nation destroyed.

Of a long ago nation once more brought back that wizardly warning by Morhion
For in a seedy tavern called the Crows Nest around the docks of Iriabor not to long ago
He had shook hands with a comely man named Zen who turned out to be a Magic Thief of all things!
This common thief had some how stumble onto the long lost knowledge of the Gor-Kethal from the old Netheril empire.
Surprising for those mage cities have long since vanished under the sands of the Anauroch
Yet may the experience Morhion severe me now

The Light Wizard said as he looked at the Ellaran shielded within its own magic prison

Yes and here I stand with an even clearer direr warning than Morhion Gen’dahar had
For he didn’t see the Rune on the thieves hand in time....But for me its glowing.

Taking note of who was brave or drunk enough to stay in the tavern
He let out a sigh
Tell your master, specter of the Ellaran
That if he can teleport himself out of town or try to cast the imprisonment spell.
For I see no reason why imprisonment spell cant be cast over that same shield
And yes by doing so your master will forever be safely from others

like I said I will not risk lives of the towns folks on some blind adventure
for a stranger who wisely or unwisely entombed himself with a supposedly evil creature.
If it helps your master.....as far as I know you are tellimg me the truth....sadly as far as I know you are not

The three former adventurers -- Briel, Elias, and Faedren, watch the wizards in their little spat with a degree of bewilderment.

" 'Maya," Faedren calls toward their living quarters, "I thought you said you'd reset the wards around here so there wouldn't be magic-slinging in the common room."

Amaya pokes her head out from behind the door with a frown. "It must have slipped my mind. I'll fix that in a bit, all right? Adrica wants for changing." With that, she's gone, back into their living quarters. Faedren quietly sighs, eying Agudo and the other figure.

"If you're of an opinion to do that again, I'd suggest taking it outside." I should post a sign....'No magic-slinging in the house without consent.' No one would listen, of course. He absently tucks away the pouch tossed to him previously and with his free hand beckons Khaira back into the kitchen with him as he stages his quiet retreat.

The spectre shakes it's head.
You aren't listening. I can't reach him unless something suppresses that fiend.

An old woman stands up as the apparition finishes speaking.

Imprisonment can't be used because the are about 3 different kinds of spell turning, deflection and simple countering on the boy. His wisdom may be doubtful but his protective abilities are typically formidable. He'd probably turn the spell back on you without having a clue what you're doing. I'd assume he can't cast it himself because abandoning the containment or defensive spells to do so is deadly. Blundering youngster, he should have sought me out years ago instead of trying to handle this alone.

The woman walks into the field of light with a disapproving glare at the flames which reach for her but fall away before her own protective mantle and snarls a word of power. All active magic around Ellaran ceases for a moment. A moment later she taps him on the shoulder and he disappears just as light and fire are beginning to form around him again. The apparition disappears immediately after.

That will handle things as far as the tavern is concerned. The youngster is now on the doorstep of an expert in this type of matter. Hmm, it will also solve another problem of mine.

Turning to Agudo:

As much fun as dispensing sage advice may be, it would have been simpler for you to break the boy's defenses and then have the owl banish the fiend if she is a high priestess or in reverse have the owl break his defenses and you imprison him. Even a fiend needs time to react. Between the both of you, there is no reason it should have had any. It certainly would have been more useful than prattling on about caution and tales of others while the fiend prepared to kill the boy and escape.

The old woman looks around at the damaged furniture and pulls out a pouch of her own which she takes over to whoever is left in the room with the ability to take payment.

I doubt the boy expected that to occur and therefore whatever he tossed, can't possibly have been payment for the damages done and the business lost. So this will cover the rest, I'll get repaid by the youngster later.

OOC:
The bag has a decent amount of gold in it. As long as the number is under 1000, I'll leave the exact amount of what would be reasonable to JudeSedai to determine.
END OOC:

With that she turns and heads for the door. Glancing at Agudo on the way out:

Sometimes youngster, and believe me I'm even more ancient than I look, the appropriate course of action is the one that seems risky. Somewhere along the way archmages occasionally forget that, the good ones remember before too many die for their cowardice. Laughing about old memories however while the containment spells on a fiend fail is certainly risky but it isn't useful. All that does is endanger everyone because the situation gets worse while you waste time. Both of us know precisely what effect those modified pieces of wood would have had on him if they were used regardless of his defensive magic. Brilliant plan, chat till the fiend kills its cage and then face the fiend's full power without a cage of light to protect you or the town. At the very least, some containment magic and a dimensional lock would have been appropriate so that when the fiend killed off its host, it could not immediately attack you or the 12 year old playing with her brother down the road. As neither of those would contact his defenses directly if performed properly, they would have been quite safe to use. Charming, I have the utmost respect for your methods sir, good day.

With that rant finished the old woman walks out the door and disappears.

OOC: The old woman suppressed the fiend and the defenses at the same time for the instant she needed to use teleportation magic. The teleport used on Ellaran was quickened. I had actually expected Agudo and Lady Hoot working together and using the routine of break the shields and then banish before the fiend had time to react and would have suggested it here except that tavern wards are going to shift soon and I want this matter dead before then. As I'm killing it immediately instead of taking the slightly longer (2 or 3 posts, I had no desire to spend much more time on the fiend) route I had planned on, Agudo gets a rant from an old woman instead of dealings with a semi-apologetic and much more friendly Ellaran. Sorry about that, Agudo.

Moment later she taps him on the shoulder and he disappears just as light and fire are beginning to form around him again. The apparition disappears immediately after.

Agudo smiles
you see I was right he could be teleported out...strange why she didnt cast the Imprison spell...that way secureing the safty of all
Now its soemwhere lese...o well...im sure this old woman has it all planed out

Convenient old woman
That will handle things as far as the tavern is concerned. The youngster is now on the doorstep of an expert in this type of matter. Hmm, it will also solve another problem of mine.

Walking back over to the bar the blue and white robe Mage picks up his bar stool
“How convenient for you my dear Madam, it seems almost like you and he were destined to meet

Convenient old woman
As much fun as dispensing sage advice may be, it would have been simpler for you to break the boy's defenses......

Lady Hoot was sitting calmly on her perch that being Agudo shoulder when she felt the need to offer her own wisdom
Im sorry didn’t you say the Ellaran had three types of protections on the shield that would have stop us from casting
(Banishment and Imprison Spells?) granted we could go in but....I wonder why you could just walk in....not much of a cage if you ask me....almost like a trap!!!

Sitting down on the stool the Light Wizard winked at Lady Hoot then spoke to the ranting old woman
And yes we could have broken the boy’s defenses....
safely on the outside of the self-made trap-shield of Ellaran

Convenient old woman

......It certainly would have been more useful than prattling on about caution and tales of others while the fiend prepared to kill the boy and escape.

The lovely snow owl added her own wisdom once more
Blundering and unwise!
Was your words about this Ellaran boy

She says to the old woman

It would seem highly unlikely he could do this on his own
Its obvious someone helped the boy directly or indirectly
Using him like some puppet for a more diabolical reason.

So Agudo tale of caution was the more wiser of actions to take than blindly enter into a trap made by a stranger or his puppet masters.

Convenient old woman/maskedone
The old woman looks around at the damaged furniture and pulls out a pouch of her own which she takes over to whoever is left in the room with the ability to take payment.
I doubt the boy expected that to occur and therefore whatever he tossed, can't possibly have been payment for the damages done and the business lost. So this will cover the rest, I'll get repaid by the youngster later.
OOC:
The bag has a decent amount of gold in it. As long as the number is under 1000, I'll leave the exact amount of what would be reasonable to JudeSedai to determine.
END OOC:

Some of the patrons all raise there hands greedily in hopes the unnamed old woman will give them the money bulging pouch of coin
it must be way more than needed to cover the cost some thought
Probably enough in it to buy the tavern building
let alone replace the one chair and few silver coins of lost Ale and tea cups

Rambling on the still unnamed woman speaks to Agudo again
......the appropriate course of action is the one that seems risky. Somewhere along the way archmages occasionally forget that.

Scathing his head he chuckles
“Strange I don’t remember telling anyone here im an Archmage!
Was it my rugged good looks, fine taste in jewelry
or my many books that have made me famous
Well im sure its not hard see my ego is like an Archamge...Im not very modest

Still unnamed Old woman

.... that, the good ones remember before too many die for their cowardice. Laughing about old memories however while the containment spells on a fiend fail is certainly risky but it isn't useful

Agudo took a few more puffs on his pipe then spoke up
O you mean like you madam!
Sitting about watching doing nothing but take in the view...
well that is.....until you saw that your and I say again in my opinion (Your) Trap of the Ellaran...wasn’t working as planed

But please continue

Still unnamed old woman
....Both of us know precisely what effect those modified pieces of wood would have had on him if they were used regardless of his defensive magic.

Lady Hoot whisper in Agudo ear
Im sure she did even before she sent the boy Ellaran here

Witha few more rants the old woman left
......Charming, I have the utmost respect for your methods sir, good day.

Witha tip of his corncob pipe the Light Wizard wished her well
"Thank you so do I my dear Madam
For all are safe the real pupet master showed herslef and took the Ellaran away with no loss of life...May you walk in the Light to where ever you go.

Flapping her wings the wise owl bemused at the old woman words
Did you here her speak about me if I wasn’t even here or like I cant speak for myself
I am an enchanted owl you know!

Once more the unnamed old woman
......and then have the owl banish the fiend if she is a high priestess.....

Small chuckle
“Discrimination!

Agudo sighed with a weary smile
No more discrimitory than im sure the words from the tavern owner

Faedren
'Maya," Faedren calls toward their living quarters, "I thought you said you'd reset the wards around here so there wouldn't be magic-slinging in the common room."
........."If you're of an opinion to do that again, I'd suggest taking it outside." I should post a sign....'No magic-slinging in the house without consent.' No one would listen, of course.

Shrugging
All I did was wave my tastefully ringed hand and order tea

Lady Hoot laughed
Yes I know then Ellaran started casting magic everywhere furniture was destroyed and everything

Looking at the Dwarf and Cleric that being Briel, Elias.
You know this will be my gift to Morhion Gen’dahar who I was talking about the one who wrote the story called the Mage thief.

Ill write a book called
(Trick of Treat in a tavern) :pumpkin:
Most appropriate do to its almost hollows eve
It will have Ellaran Specters AKA ghosts and a sly matronly woman
Hmm what was her name?

Laugh
O well ill call her old woman
Imagine the odds of this stranger Ellaran coming into a local cantina
find an Archmage plus High cleric sitting about....just to have his nervous magical trap brake down.
Then on top of it a powerful old woman being here to save the day!

I think Ill leave it to the reader to decide if it an obvious trap or not.... or just bad luck of a wizard

....Agudo gets a rant from an old woman instead of dealings with a semi-apologetic and much more friendly Ellaran. Sorry about that, Agudo.
END OOC:

No need be apologetic it was in good fun of story telling
Agudo and Hoot just really thought it seem like a bounty hunters trap or another evil enemy....But I would recomend next time that this be used in an MOP post of its own for it did take over JudeSedai non epic Tavern story of drinks and simple hello's

OOC: I'm not likely to make a habit of that type of trick, though it did provide me a useful character concept so I won't complain too much. This isn't too far beyond some of what showed up in a tavern thread that I was involved in elsewhere a year or two ago, so I didn't expect too much trouble as long as the matter was concluded quickly. As for the old woman, she was analyzing Ellaran's defenses throughout the conflict so that when she was forced to act, she could do so effectively. The light itself never barred passage to mortals, (if you'll remember the apparition said that stepping into it placed you within the fiend's area of influence so you were warned about the risk and I did imply that it could be entered) only the fiend and various types of magic. He did have several types of defense up but without being able to pay any attention to Agudo, he could not possibly have held them up for a more than a few seconds. Agudo did imply that he was an archwizard or at least very experienced. Rookies don't play headmaster to a school of wizardry. The caution was only against trying to imprison Ellaran before handling his defenses somehow. The portion about both light and fire reforming was a testament to what Ellaran's defenses could do and the skill of the old woman. If the scene were to be shifted into game mechanics then she used a variation of anti-magic and an Epic transportation spell. The old woman never bothered to worry about the fiend for a variety of reasons and if I bothered to continue with a tale for her then she was there to meet Ellaran. Oh well, I'm moving on before I manage to disrupt this thread further. All in all, while I may have a use for the concept of the Ellaran, I think he was better off elsewhere from the beginning. The old woman will not be back to explain herself to Agudo. Nor did she stop on her way out to explain herself further. The obvious OOC explanation for it is that she was never there until I decided that the Ellaran needed to be pulled out hastily.

Khaira

10-26-05, 01:42 AM
He absently tucks away the pouch tossed to him previously and with his free hand beckons Khaira back into the kitchen with him as he stages his quiet retreat.

Khaira regards the two wizards fighting from her position in the inn. This sure was getting aggravating; so much for a quiet cup of tea in the morning! Standing up, brushing the auburn-colored hair from her eyes, Khaira called out to the two bickering wizards.

"He, you two egotistical, argumentative, loud old ladies!"

Khaira pointed at both Agudo and Ellaran, seeming angry.

"Most people come here to enjoy peace and quiet, and get a hot cup of tea or coffee ... not to listen to two egotistical midwive's argue! If they wanted that ... they'd got to the Bard School in Waterdeep! If you're going to continue your melodramatic, sorry excuse of a debate, take it outside so you don't disturb everyone else!"

Khaira was going to continue to yell at the two - she was even going to drag them out by their ears - but then she saw, out of the corner of her eye, Faedren motioning his hand for her to join him in the kitchen.
Moving slowly, away from the bickering wizards and the probably now-annoyed patrons, Khaira began to follow Faedren...

Lady Hoot was busy sweeping the floor with her wings happily singing a song hoping to get the room back to normal for the TavernKeeper

Agudo on the other hand sat painstakingly at the bar trying to glue back together that shattered tea cup he had been drinking from

The Wizard of light was concentrating so much so.
He didn’t even bother to turn around to see the woman who was berating him for being a successful user of the Arcane arts.

Shrugging his shoulders and letting out a long sigh
Buuuuut....O’ Light above!
All I did was order a cup of tea and my pipe by...by...by magic...that was all!
The next thing I know all heck broke loose when this Ellaran thingy lost its magical marbles

Then just as Khaira entered into the kitchen Agudo turned abruptly
Blinking for a moment
“Naaaa it couldn’t be her!
Could it?”

Mumbling some more about discrimination against goodly magic users
He goes back to work trying to fix the tea cup
All along wondering what in the Light happen to his simple hope of a drink and a small bight to eat

Once in the kitchen, Faedren turns to the stew he's left on the stove, stirring quickly to prevent it from sticking to the pot. "Now that you've managed to intrigue me, m'lady, perhaps you should tell me why you've come and what help you need from me and mine? I'll offer it gladly, but I'd like to know what it is I'm dealing with."
Khaira

11-09-05, 03:40 PM
Khaira followed Faedren, walking in thought as she ventured into the sweet-smelling kicthen. She wondered what Faedren would ask her to report on? Or would he ask her to report? Perhaps, even, he would not allow her to report at all. Maybe Xerafeln had sent her here, but Faedren didn't want be caught up in the intrigues of the Harpers any longer. She had met many individuals such as that; too bad most of them were all-too-soon killed by enemies they had made long ago.
With a soft, low sigh, Khaira came to a stop, her hands crossed and held neatly behind her back, still silent as she considered Faedren's question. Could she, in fact, tell Faedren what it was that she wanted in such few words? In fact, Khaira realized, there was much that she wanted and desired. Alas, not many of those things that she did desire were things that he could give her.
For a long moment after Faedren's question, Khaira stood still and silent with her hands still behind her back, biting her lip. Could she so easily explain what was now in front of him?
With a deep breath, Khaira nodded, and met Faedren's eyes with her own bright, emerald green eyes. She paused momentarily before she began, curious of the first thing the human had said.

"Intrigued you, my lord? I ... appologize if my actions this morn were shocking or insulting to you or yours.

I've come, my lord, at the request and insistence of one Kirill, met in Waterdeep. I've not made contact with any of the Elders for an elongated time; it seems as though I've lost track of time these days. All days seem to blend together, into one endless fleight. It seems my luck has fallen..."

Khaira stopped herself abruptly; she was digressing from the answer that she had intended to give. She was known, all across Faerun, as a solid base for which people could rely on for stability. And now, she was poring her whole soul and her sadness out to this man ... this man whom she didn't even know!
Anger flashed across her emerald green eyes momentarily before she took another deep breath; she had to compose herself. This was such simple thing to do, and she was already stammering her way through it!

"Forgive me, lord; what I mean to say is that, in truth, a report from one Khaira Amastacia is long overdue. I've been missing in action to the Harp for the past year or more."

Khaira paused, then, unsure if she should actually stop there. The way she had said it made it sound like Faedren had no choice in the matter, which was clearly untrue. This man, she was sure, could most definitely dispatch her as easily as all that.
With a sympathetic, sorrowful gaze, Khaira again met Faedren's gaze. If he turned her away now, she would be forced to ... go out there. Where they, no doubt, awaited...

"...I wish to force nothing on you, my lord. I have no wish to disrupt the peace or gentleness that you have created in what has become your home. It is my hope that you will accept me and what I have to report.
Yet, if my presence here is more of a chaotic, disrupting disturbance to all that you have achieved, and if you do not wish to become involved in such things, then I will take my presence from your establishment.

The choice, my lord, is yours."

Khaira abruptly halted speaking then, regarding Faedren with a gaze that was neither pleading nor desperate, but simply supportive of the course of action he would choose to take.

After trying a moment to maintain a stern expression, Faedren smiles. "Well, no reason not to have hands busy while you give your report. Get that basket of eggs, there, and start cracking them into the bowl on the counter. You'll find a fork in the drawer there. Beat those eggs 'til the yolks are all broken, then add a bit of the milk in the cooling tank, there. I'll season them up when that's done." He slaps some strips of thick pork into a pan and sets it on the stove. "My brother sent you, eh? I'm certain he's been well enough, and that he'll be along before too much longer. His wife's one of us as well, and she's expecting soon. Yet more infants to add to the brood. My mother will be thrilled." He grins boyishly and turns to mind the meat.
Khaira

11-16-05, 12:39 AM
Khaira paused, but momentarily, as Faedren requested - or demanded, depending on one's attitude and perception of the situation - before picking up two eggs in each hand. One in her field of expertise must be adept at all tasks, and cooking was definitely not something foreign to her.

She'd spent a long time on the road, and dry rations got awfully bland after many years of devouring them for their nutritional value. Her hands moving swiftly, Khaira cracked the four eggs into the pan. She reached into the drawer Faedren had indicated and pulled out a fork, concentrating on the beating of the eggs before finally turning her attention to Faedren.

"Well, sir, if Kirill is indeed you brother then, aye, he is the one who sent me. Or, rather, Kirill informed an old friend of mine who in turn contacted me."

Khaira paused momentarily in thought as she considered that. She wondered how bad that had sounded; she had been out of contact for quite some time now.
Seeming to realize, quite all of a sudden, that there were still eggs to crack and beat, food to make, and a report to make, Khaira threw her head in a circular motion, sending her vibrant red hair back and out of the way.
Cracking the last of the eggs into the pan, Khaira continued to beat them to a desirable level, her eyes focused on the eggs rather than Faedren.

"As I've stated, I've not made a report in quite some time, but have been no less busy as all that, sir. It has been ... almost a year. Where would you like me to start?"

The cooking bard favors the red-head with another boyish grin. "Why not start at the beginning? Unless, of course, you can think of a better place. Generally, though, the beginning is a very good place to start these things. You could start at the end, too, that sometimes has dramatic impact if you do it right, but when you start in the middle....well. I've seen that done well only once -- once! So start at the beginning, I think." He minds the various pans and pots on his stove.
