Persistent time stop would be how powerful?

Aside from tons of summons, really long duration area of effect spells, what do people thing about resting for 8 hours and getting your spells back. This struck me as pretty much going infinite with spells.

"Persistent Time Stop Moment" is something of a cliche on these boards. Since the duration of Time Stop is not a fixed number of rounds, it cannot be persisted. It's a common mistake, and quite an arcane rules point.

Don't be disheartened. Mistakes like these are the sign of a promising new optimiser. Only PhoenixInferno would ever chew you out over them, and that's more for show. Enjoy your time at TO.

If they'd only errata it to:

Duration: Instantaneous
Effect: d4+1 rounds of apparent time; (see text)

or similar, as it should be, that would hopefully fix the 'persistent time stop' threads.

As it is, they don't even mention it in the FAQ.

That's not why it doesn't work. I'm pretty sure it's because the duration is in "apparent time" rather than actual time.

Either way, it is a subtle and little-known point of the rules. Frankly, I think R&D just said "No, you can't do that because of... thingy. You know. Thingy." and here we are. It was for the good of the game.

Yeah, I was a huge fan of time stop for a while too.
You could make a staff of infinite time stop easily, I don't think it could be made continuous.

It's all about favor of martyr + greater celerity. That will get you what you want.

Could your persist those? Make item that casts it continuously?

Remember, though, the psionic power Temporal Acceleration explicitly does allow you to extend the duration as much as you want, so long as the augmentation is in line with your ML. If one was to acquire a manifester level of 722, one could use metamind+extend power to acquire an 8 hour timestop, during which you could rest and regain those PP. Perhaps use an erudite's Spell to Power on a consumptive field?

Naw, that'd require a DM to allow you to use CF to increase ML instead of CL.

But the difficulty in increasing ML is one of the reasons Psi is one of the better balanced ones.

Still, I think there's an epic feat which does this-- maybe in ComPsi.

In my games, I allow Persistent Time Stop. Why, you ask?

Because I've ruled that Persistent Spell applies to actual time. So you get to take 1d4+1 actions... in a day's worth of real time.

Excellent. Now let me make a rune circle /magic trap of that and stick it in my front hallway. I can deal with intruders at my leisure.

The ruling that one cannot persist time stop is inconsistent with the rules. All the attempts to rationalize the ruling are weak at best. However, FAQ is FAQ. If you wanna follow every published rule of WoTC, you must follow the FAQ. Life goes on.

Nothing, however, stops one from casting Temporal Acceleration inside of Temporal Accelerations, in conjunction with an infinite power point trick. Similarly, one can combine temporal reiteration with temporal acceleration and an infinite power point trick to achieve the same benefit. Resting, in either case, however, would not be possible. That's somewhat moot if you have infinite power points at your disposal, however.
