| Lokiyn07-07-07, 09:34 PM | Time Tricks (CL 15+) This is just a quick and dirty, and importantly simple trick. For this trick we need a Wizard and the feat Sculpt spell, that’s about it. You can alter the area of your spells. Prerequisite: Any metamagic feat. Benefit:You can modify an area spell by changing the area’s shape to either a cylinder (10-foot radius, 30 feet high), a 40-foot cone, four 10-foot cubes, a ball (20-foot-radius spread), or a 120-foot line. The sculpted spell works normally in all respects except for its shape. For example, a lightning bolt whose area is changed to a ball deals the same amount of damage, but affects a 20-foot-radius spread.A sculpted spell uses a spell slot one level higher than the spell’s actual level. Abjuration Level: Cleric 7, sorcerer/wizard 7 Components: V, S, M/DF Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Area: 10-ft.-radius emanation from touched creature Duration: 10 minutes/level Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless) Spell Resistance: No; see text[quote] [quote=Kaorti(FF)]Kaorti can be summoned using a Summon monster II Spell. So all in all it’s quite a simple trick. Summon a Kaorti, and then Cast a Sculpted Planar Bubble. And there you have it, The Kaorti is excluded from the Planar Bubble effect, but as its target the field created shares the traits of its home plane, namely the far realms. This means every minute in the field equals no time outside the field. Include your party in the Field, and exclude your enemies, and you have time to do almost anything. You could literally throw rocks, cast spells, etc. as long as you wanted, and watch each effect “freeze” as it hits the boundary of the field. Once you all leave the field you can watch as a few days worth of attacks slam into your former foe. |
| Callix07-08-07, 06:34 AM | Quick, dirty, and gives you over a day when extended at CL 15+. Losing the fight? Two rounds later, you've had a day's rest and are ready to go. Looks like a good contribution to optimisation everywhere. Then again, we all know clerics and wizards are broken. |
| PhaedrusXY07-08-07, 12:29 PM | Wow. That's the simplest, most legal flowing time trick I've seen so far. Unless the DM specifically says that the Kaorti or the Far Realm doesn't exist in his game, this should work without question I think. |
| Lyinginbedmon07-08-07, 07:01 PM | I'm guessing it's in the Manual of the Planes, but I'm having trouble finding it, where does it state that the Far Realm is timeless? |
| NoldorForce07-08-07, 07:48 PM | Look in the back. The accepted explanation is that if you travel to the Far Realms and then return, you return to exactly the point in time at which you left. |
| Lokiyn07-08-07, 08:36 PM | Flowing Time:A Minute in the Far Realms is equals no time on the material plane. There are a few obstacles to overcome (it's simple to set up, hard to use properly) Sporadic Energy Traits, The Far realm area changes Dominant Energy traits sporadically, so its possible to be fine one second, and on fire the next. Magic suffers from wild magic. Maddening. NonNative must make a will save Dc 20 or fall under the effects of the insanity spell. You make the check on entry and every hour on the hour. What a party needs then is something like the armor enchantment planar tolerance (+25,000 gp) or some other item that can negate the energy damage from the energy traits Fire -> 3d10 points of fire damage water -> Drowning Positive -> Fast healing 2 (explode) Negative -> 1d6 Neg ::shrugs:: So as long as you can cover those possibilities, it should be fine. Or its possible to say that the zone is to small to generate the the energy storms described in the traits. |
| fetfet07-09-07, 07:15 PM | Unless i am mistaken, one could merely play a druid 5/planar shepherd 5, and have your affinity plane the far plane. Bam. |
| Lyinginbedmon07-09-07, 07:23 PM | Well, I think you technically have to be dead to be affinitive for the Far Plane :P |
| fetfet07-09-07, 07:56 PM | Why? Nothing says that. Do you have any proof? |
| Callix07-09-07, 08:25 PM | Isn't there a Planar Adaptation spell or something in the Planar Handbook with hours/level duration or something? That lets you survive the normal effects of any planar traits, such as fire damage from fire dominance. Chuck in Water Breathing if neccessary and you can survive, because you can hold your breath until it goes air-dominant. |
| Lyinginbedmon07-09-07, 09:11 PM | Why? Nothing says that. Do you have any proof? The Far Plane is a location in Final Fantasy X wherein the souls of the dead rest. The Far Realm is a plane in D&D cosmologies (Or, if you're a D&D Future fan, it's the 'blank space' the universe is expanding into) |

| fetfet07-10-07, 07:38 PM | ...Oh. Sorry. But i am still trying to figure out if that is valid. |
| Mr.$mith07-11-07, 05:59 PM | Why do you have to summon a Kaorit for this plan to work? Edit, I guess you have to have something from the plane to make it work. |
| DrStalker07-14-07, 05:53 AM | Is the missing trick here that you summon a Kaorit, cast planar bubble on it but shape teh bubble to a cone facing you so the Kaorit is not included in the area of effect? Otherwise I don't see how shape-spell is needed at all. |

| snizor07-14-07, 10:49 AM | FYI, the Alienist PRC (CA) with the pseudonatural templated summons can also pull off this trick. |
| heisenheim07-22-07, 07:24 PM | where is kaorti from? |
| PhaedrusXY07-22-07, 07:45 PM | Fiend Folio |
| skydragonknight07-25-07, 12:15 PM | Greater Crystal of Adaptation(MIC 24)-- 3,000 gold A crystal of adaptation protects you from hostile environments, both terrestrial and extra-planar. Least: This augment crystal protects you from temperature extremes as an endure elements spell. Lesser: As the least crystal, and you are also protected from all alignment traits of any plane(DMG 149). (Not so important, but part of the package) Greater: As the lesser crystal, and you are also protected from the positive-dominant and negative-dominant traits of any planes. Requires +3 or better armor or +3 or better bracers of armor to use a Greater augment crystal. As always, only one armor crystal may be used at a time and attatching or removing an augment crystal is a move action You'll also want Necklace of Adaptations(no slotted if allowed, especially for divine casters) for everyone in the party to help you breathe easy while you rest, literally. Right before you step out, swap out the armor crystals and/or necklace of adaptations for more appropriate combat gear. |
| Fwib07-25-07, 01:23 PM | Yep. Otherwise the kaorti fades back out before you have time to do anything.Wouldn't you just get 1 round per level (the duration of the summoning) that way? That's still better than Time Stop (apart from the chance of horrific stuff happening to you) |
| BillTheManiac07-25-07, 04:32 PM | Wouldn't you just get 1 round per level (the duration of the summoning) that way? That's still better than Time Stop (apart from the chance of horrific stuff happening to you) It's a planar bubble, which I'm pretty sure has just the traits, just the inhabitants. It lasts 24 hours because it's a cone. The kaorti is not in the bubble, just like the wizard is not in his cone of cold spell. The group is. This means the kaorti perceives no time as passing during the uber buff/kill routine of death. |

The kaorti is not in the bubble, just like the wizard is not in his cone of cold spell. The group is. Which might be considered a safety feature, given the nastiness of the planar traits. |
| Alpha_Moose07-25-07, 07:41 PM | From the new Class Chronicles (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/frcc/20070718), they have a vestige that grants you the pseudonatural template. Now you have no need for the summoned creature. |
| NoldorForce07-26-07, 01:23 AM | You'll still want to summon a creature if you want to abuse the Far Realms yourself. But that isn't a problem, considering that the vestige also gives you the ability to summon pseudonatural critters every thirty seconds. |
| Lokiyn07-26-07, 09:15 AM | The idea works like this You have the Kaorti summoned for about 15 rounds total. on the second round you use the shaped planar bubble to cast on the kaorti to exclude the monster. So it works something like this Round 01a, Planar Bubble Round 01b, ??? Round 01c, Profit You have as much time as you want, need a few rounds you have it, need a few days you have it, need a year, you have it. All before the initiative count even ticks down to the next person. You could launch a weeks worth of fireballs in less than an instant. |
| NoldorForce07-26-07, 01:27 PM | Doesn't this make things a bit easier for Monty and so forth? Instead of actually needing to go back and forth across the planes, you can just walk in and out of the Planar Bubble as desired. |
| Lyinginbedmon08-12-07, 03:04 PM | :bump: |
| control freak08-15-07, 09:37 PM | im sure theres ways to get it b4 level 15 lets start a think tank  |
| Callix08-16-07, 06:03 AM | Any accelerated caster that can do 8th level spells will work. A Beholder Mage (The legendary LoP's Dirty Trick #1), or a Subline Chord look like good bets, but I'm not sure about ECL for 8th level spells. |
