It is midday, and a large boat is pulling up to harbor on your home island. Water on its sides glistens in the noonday sun, as does the figurehead on its prow, carved and painted as a great red bird with head plumage in the vague shape of a crown. Emblazoned upon the side of the ship is the name of the boat, the Pheonix Royal. As the sailors tie it onto the dock, a well-dressed halfling disembarks, carrying a large scroll, from which he reads aloud, his voice magnified by some spell: "By decree of his Royal Highness King Willian Riversbend IV of Perigan, I hereby anounce a celebrations of his century of life, to be held in three months time in the city of Kanotch, taking the form of a great tournament and feast, where any whp wish may test their skill at arms and magic, and that the ship that lies docked behind me shall be the manner of transport to the mainland."

OOC: You are free to join, either as an inhabitant of the island or someone already on the ship from an earlier stop on the route. This is a diceless counterpart to my Hynth campaign, so I ask that those participating there do not look here and vice-versa

An outlandish looking man listens intently to the announcement. Right away, you can pick out the fact that there is something different about him. As he cocks his head slightly to the side to listen, you note his cheery brown eyes, golden brown hair, and even the coppery glint of his skin in the sunlight. The well-built man stands at about 6'1'' in a loose chain shirt that is partially hidden by the black cloak that adorns his shoulders. Underneath this, you note a sheath befitting that of a longsword, and a steel shield is affixed to his back. He carries not much on him, a few pouches handing on his belt, but nothing heavy or obscure. He mumbles at first, but his voice grows steady as he continues.

I figure I'd like that, proving my prowess at arms will be most refreshing

Stepping off the boat with the other passengers, he takes a moment to lift his great hands to the sky and stretch. Bringing them slowly back down, he scratches an old itch in his side and makes for the central part of town, determined to find an inn before nightfall.

Hello Damior, I'm here! I hope we get someone to join us soon, but until then I'll give you someone to work with. You asked for 4rth level charecters, so this here is a fighter/3 rogue/1 crossclass with my own little twist. Pleasure to meet your aquantance.

As you step off the ship, the sights, sounds, and smells of Port Monim surround you. Dozens of other ships, some military some commercial, are docked nearby. Along the docks to your left some fishermen are unloading their catch into a wagon. to the right, a group of travelers, appearing to be a bit lost, ask a man for directions. Straight ahead, the rest of the passengers and several of the crew of the Phoenix Royal are wating before a couple of official looking men standing at the end of the dock. The halfling from before walks up to them and shows them something written on a piece of paper. The guards nod and let everyone through.
The sheer size of Monim city is bewildering, like nothing seen back in the Sovereign Islands. The buildings seem to stretch on into infinity. You presently find yourself in the middle of the maretplace, vendors line both sides of the streets on the sidewalks in front of the large, permanent shops. The smell of the ocean is still quite present here, and a few guards stand watch in the center of the market. What appears to be a hundred people of various races mill about the shops, this is a very busy city.

The man looks around at the local vendors, seeing just what they have for sale. He passes the booths of trinkets, Let the ladies and mages deal with those

He continues on his merry way, but cannot seem to find a resting establishment. In time, he decides to ask for directions, but isn't quite sure how to introduce himself. At length, he decides one of the shopkeepers would have to tell him, which meant, of course, that he would have to buy something

No use taking what I don't need. I suppose a sturdy dagger would be nice. You can never have too much iron on you.

With such thoughts filling his head, he wanders the stalls looking for such a vendor.

As he wanders, he catches a quick glimpse of a figure out of the corner of his eye. Although the crowds around him are immense, this woman stands out instantly.

She is tall. Very tall. Her face has traces of elven heritage, and her brilliantly red hair falls about her in numerous braids, adorned with beads and ribbons of red and white. She is beautiful in a exotic sort of way; her skin is tanned from long hours in the sun, her face strong, sharp and angular, and her slightly pointed ears, each carries at least one gold ring, peeking subtly out from under her braids.

Her attire is white, slashed through with a bright and lively crimson. The silken clothing is tight and form-fitting where it would attract the most attention, but the three-quarter length sleeves are loose and flowing, with wide cuffs that allow for a wide range of movement. Together with the high leather boots, she is the very image of the female swashbuckler.

Completing the affair is a broad belt, and strapped to the belt is a artfully crafted rapier, wrought of steel and gold. The lady wears it with the air of one who can and has used it. And as she turns to meet the man's gaze, her hand drops to the hilt, revealing a stylized dolphin tattooed on the back of her right hand.

He spys a shop a few doors down the road bearing a sign over its large window reading "Galvas' Fine Blades". In the window are an assortment of swords and daggers.

Greetings Gideon, glad to have you on board. just so you know the power level is around 4th level, plan accordingly.
Gideon_Gideonson

03-23-07, 06:38 PM
4th, eh? That's going to be interesting...this will take some work. I normally play...uh...much, much more powerful characters. But this looks good, so I'll see what I can whip up :D
Damior

03-23-07, 07:00 PM
It wont stay fourth, I plan for the party to be the equivalent of epic before the final plot resolves, so, prepare for the long haul

Hello Gideon, good to know I can count on someone else to post in this thread as fast as I do. And to show me up in roleplaying as always. Good to have you back on the threads period actually.
Now he tells me (about the epic levels). Too late to establish myself as a fledgling mage, I'm stuck as a fighter forever :weep: Or, alternatively, a rouge. Hmm...

The tall, muscular man walks in an awkard semi-circle around this strange new woman who has drawn his eye. At the summit, he actually ends up walking backwards for a second before he bumps into another customer.

Oh, I'm sorry, i wasn't watching where I was going.

He holds his hands out in front of him, palms toward the woman, trying convincing her that he meant no harm or offense. After a moment, he manages to convince the woman that he didn't steal her money or belongings.

The man turns back to the lady with the fair, red hair to see if she witnessed his clumsyness. Inevitably, she witnessed the whole thing. Blushing slightly, he decides to delay his trip to the blade shop to take a risk and introduce himself. Taking his first step towards her, he nods his head in her direction in preference to a traditional bow, not wanting his torso quite so close to a woman with her hand on a blade.

Greetings milady, my name is Kyyt, and I couldn't help but notice that you seem out so out of place here. May I safely assume that you are my competition for the local tournament?
Gideon_Gideonson

03-23-07, 09:15 PM
"Tournament? Nay, you be wrong. This is the first I be hearing 'bout some tourney."

Emya takes her hand off her weapon, spits in her palm, and holds it out to Kyyt

"I'm Emya Corizu, once mistress of the Leaping Porpoise...til' some worthless dogs sank her off the coast. Pleased ta meetcha!"
ank

03-23-07, 09:22 PM
Kyyt looks at the hand that is literally dripping saliva. Although he finds it detestable, he has indeed heard of this practice.

I've heard of this. It's used by country folks to seal a deal of some kind.

A well-hidden digust creeps into Kyyt's friendly smile as he spits into his hand and shakes firmly.

So what kind of bargain did I just strike?

Well, I hear there is to be a tournament here on this island in honor of King Willian Riversbend IV. I haven't heard anything about a prize yet, but I assume there must be one. I was just on my way to yonder shoppe...

He points his thumb over his shoulder towards Galvas'.

...to pick up a spare blade and get some directions to the colluseum and a local inn.

Subtly wiping his hand on the seat of his pants, he inquires

Would you be interested in joining such a competition?
Gideon_Gideonson

03-23-07, 09:29 PM
"Aye, why not? A bit of prize money t'would go a long way to gettin' me another vessel."

"And inn, you say? Lead on, my friend...lead on! The day ain't never come when Emya Corizu said no to an inn!"

Yeah...she's a pirate. This is going to be fun :D

Anyway...thanks for the compliments, Ank. But I prefer to think I'm here to bolster everyone else's RPing...not to show anyone up.

And remember...you did destroy Rynce D'Janas in that tournament. You must be pretty damn good yourself :D
ank

03-23-07, 09:33 PM
Thank you, it makesme feel proud to hear that

Alright then, lets go get us some directions shall we?

Kyyt leads Emya through the crowd into the blade shop and takes a good look around, trying to find the vendor.
Gideon_Gideonson

03-23-07, 09:36 PM
Emya, however, is not so polite.

"ALRIGHT! WHO BE THE PROPRIETER OF THIS 'ERE SHOP?"

Welcome :D

And I feel your pain with the epic. Yay bard/rogue/swashbuckler types...

Then again, it's about the character, and two roguish types...well...I pity those around them :D
ank

03-23-07, 09:37 PM
Right then, that will be awefully fun hehehe. I suppose we should wait for our host/dm to catch up with us eh?

Edit: lol, i look at your profile to see whether you are still in this thread, and find out that you are looking at mine. :)
Gideon_Gideonson

03-23-07, 09:40 PM
Most likely. T'would be polite.

Besides...I need time to plot about character and backstories. Currently Emya is the work of about...oh...two minutes. I need more :schemes:
Damior

03-23-07, 09:49 PM
"That would be me, miss," the man behind the couter says, looking up from the sword he was in the middle of polishing, "I'm the Galvas from the sign, what kind of weapon would you like?"

OOC: I might not be able to post during thw week, just a heads up, but I will try to be as active as pssible updating this on the weekends
Gideon_Gideonson

03-23-07, 09:52 PM
"I ain't lookin' for no blades, mate. That's what Kyyt here be searchin' for."

"Kyyt? This be the man you want."

That's fine.
ank

03-23-07, 10:11 PM
"Aye, that be the man. Good day to you sir, I'm here for a dual purpose I'm afraid, but first, to buissness. Your wonderful sign advertises you as an exellent bladesmith and I am looking to pick up a dagger or two of fine make; What can you offer me?
Damior

03-24-07, 07:59 AM
"yeah, I have a few daggers for sale, let me see what I have" he walks over the the side wall of the shop and removes a few daggers from the shelf and places them on the counter. They are all of skilled craftsmanship, but with sleight variations in length of blade and weight balance. "Any of these what you're looking for?"
ank

03-24-07, 06:07 PM
Kyyt searches through the various daggers, picking a couple up and testing their blades before rejecting them. After testing five or so of the blades, he selects one he likes: A six inch long piece of steel with a fine edge and sharp point (you can fill in the rest of you want, otherwise I can continue later).

How much for this one?
Damior

03-24-07, 06:34 PM
"That would be 3 gold pieces." says Galvas, "No what was that other part of your bussiness that you were talking about?"
ank

03-25-07, 01:14 AM
Well, I heard that there was to be a tournament around here soon, unless mine ears decieve me, and I was wondering where one would sign up for such an event. Also, where could I find a local inn to spend the night at? Preferably one without the annoying bedbugs.
Gideon_Gideonson

03-25-07, 01:40 AM
"An' one that has a bar. It must 'ave a bar."
Damior

03-25-07, 07:52 AM
"Ah, so you're going to the tournament to?Bussiness has been great lately with all of these adventurers coming into port here. From what I can tell regstration is on site at the Kanotch training grounds. As for an inn, the closest one would be the Grinning Dragon, its about a half an hours walk from here. You might need a map, its a big city. Here" he takes a sheet of parchment of of the counter, "One of my other customers left their map here a few hours ago and hasnt come back to claim it so I guess you can have it."
ank

03-25-07, 10:58 AM
Thank you kind sir, we will not forget your hospitality.

As Kyyt hands him payment for his new dagger, he slips in an extra gold.

Keep the spare.

He opens the map and looks at it for a moment before handing it over to Emya

Now if I'm reading this right, we're headed off that'a way.

He points out and to the left of the door.

Right?
Gideon_Gideonson

03-25-07, 11:37 AM
"Looks like it, matey. Course, there's no latitude or longitude on this 'ere map, so I might be completely wrong. But looks that way."

She shoulders her way through the crowds, turning her head to call back to Kyyt.

"Only one way to find out. You coming, matey?"
ank

03-25-07, 02:10 PM
Aye

Kyyt follows in her wake.
Damior

03-25-07, 04:35 PM
You travel through the city for a while, passing through the rest of the market before coming to a large building with a hanging sign proclaiming the building to be the Grinning Dragon Inn, with a picture below of a red dragon whose facial expression could be interpreted as a toothy smile.
Gideon_Gideonson

03-25-07, 05:01 PM
Emya pauses beneath the sign, glaring up at it with apparent dislike.

"Sky lizards, eh? To the devils with 'em all. Still, looks like a lively enough place."

Throwing open the door, she strides inside and up to the counter.

"Hey! Barkeep! What do ya have for me? Somethin' strong."
Damior

03-25-07, 05:35 PM
The barkeep, a kobold, responds with a nod and pours a frothy glass of ale and sets it on the counter. "That'll be three silvers, will you be wanting a room?" There are a few other patrons in the room, seated at tables around the edges. A few sheets of parchment are pinned to the wall behind the counter.
Gideon_Gideonson

03-25-07, 05:41 PM
Emya reaches inside her volumnous sleeves and pulls out a handful of coins, which she slams down on the counter.

"There you are, barkeep. And I do be wantin' a room. Mayhap Kyyt's joinin' me, mayhap he wants 'is own...either way, I'm taking one. How much?"
Damior

03-25-07, 05:47 PM
"Five silvers a day" He says.
Gideon_Gideonson

03-25-07, 05:57 PM
Grumbling quietly to herself, Emya tosses down a single golden coin.

"First day, barkeep. With the second paid in advance...provided I like the accomadations."

With that, she picks up her drink and turns swiftly away from the counter, trying to find a table involved in gambling. She calls back to Kyyt as she goes.

"Hey boyo! If'n you're gettin' a room, best to do it fast. It's pretty crowded in 'ere. Less you're staying with me, that is."

"An' see what those proclamations behind the bar say, will you? Could be somethin' we need to know."
Damior

03-25-07, 06:16 PM
None of the other people in the bar appear to be gamling at the moment. Three humans are standing in a corner talking together discussing polotics, while an elf comments to the halfling across from him about the quality of the food. A half-drunken man sits at the far end of the room muttering to himself.
Lord_Gareth

03-25-07, 06:18 PM
Yay, a diceless RP besides Sorcen's that doesn't require you to send in a stat sheet! I totally know who I'm bringing in! And Damior, if it seems like I've taken too much liberty with the NPC populous, tell me. I have an edit button for a reason.

Other things I'm taking a liberty with (since you said little about the actual setting): Religious orginizations, racial tolerance, and my equipment (no magic, but some expensive nonmagic, like half plate)

The door swings open, and a metallic clanking follows as a tall man in half plate steps in. His blood red hair is in a dignified ponytail, making his small horns more prominent, and white eyes scan the crowd, the black pupils standing out like inkblots on snow. The white of his cape and tabard contrasts his ash-gray skin. A faint, sulfurous smell exudes from him, and the floor smokes slightly under his feet. On his tabard, emblazoned in blue, is a symbol depicting three crossed swords.

Ignoring the hateful stares of the patrons, he calmly steps up to the bar and takes a seat, the stool creaking slightly under the weight of his armor. He adjusts a heavy mace at his side and shifts the tower shield on his back before speaking in a curious, almost melodic tone.

"May I get a glass of wine, good bartender?"

Meet Selendric Dawnfather, Knight of Wrath. As for classes, 2 Rogue/2 Paladin at the moment.
Damior

03-25-07, 06:28 PM
OOC: thats fine, just the patrons wouldnt be as much scornful as just wary of a tiefling or whatever it is you are. As for racial tolerence, this is about the best place for people to fit i. Its the biggest city on the continent, with almost every race represented. Hence how a kobold could set up shop as a innkeeper here. For religion, Ive got a complete homebrew pantheon, just tell me what kind of deity your character would most likely worship and I'll give you the necessary information

"Certainly, that will be 3 silvers."
Lord_Gareth

03-25-07, 06:51 PM
Yeah, he's tiefling. The unluckiest tiefling ever, but a tiefling nonetheless. You know how some tieflings get horns, or a weird hair color? He got it all. One in a million freak genetic chance. He even has a tail hidden under his long cloak.

As for his deity, he'd go for righteous wrath/judgement/vengance, that kind of thing. He is, after all, part of an orginization that calls themselves the Knights of Wrath. By the way, in case you're wondering about that, the Knights of Wrath are what I use to explain the Shadowbane Inquisitor prestige class (complete Adventurer) on worlds other than Greyhawk, which is the class he's gunning for.

By they way, he came here from the Pheonix Royal.

And when is that ship setting sail again, in game days?

The man hands over the silver coins after a few seconds fishing through his purse. The bag of coins is kept very close to his wedding tackle, to discourage pickpockets.

"Thank you, good sir."

As he ties his pursestrings again, you can see that the triple sword symbol is repeated on the backs of his gauntlets, and again on his greaves and even the back of his cloak. He doesn't pay much attention to any of them, aside from making sure that the cloak is not touching the floor. It isn't; he's a good head higher than the cloak is.

With a semi-official dignity, he raises his voice slightly to be heard above the din. His speech is naturally forceful; not loud, not boastful, but with a kind of quiet authority that cuts through noise and inclines one to quiet and listen.

"Good folk," he begins courteously, "I am curious as to whether any of you intend on boarding the Pheonix Royal. As one of the competitors, I have a vested interest in meeting my potential opponents."
ank

03-25-07, 06:57 PM
Kyyt strides up to the bar and takes a glance at the propositions aforementioned. He addresses the short kobald

I'd like a room too, if you please, and some ale before I go sign myself up for that tournement...

He reaches back into one of the pockets of his bag and retrieves a gold piece and sets it on the counter.

you wouldn't know anything about it would you?
Damior

03-25-07, 07:07 PM
OOC: The Phoenix Royal is probably going off to visit more islands in about a week or so, but It doesnt really matter, as you are on the mainland already. For your diety I'd say the best fit would be Hideron, LG deity of the Sun, Nobility, Kingdoms, and Righteous Crusades. Domains Good, Law, Protection, Sun, War. Favored weapon longsword

"Yes," says the innkeeper,"the tournament is up north in Kanotch, bout a twelve week journey. If your heading there it would be wise to leave soon, tournemant starts in three months."
Gideon_Gideonson

03-25-07, 07:28 PM
Emya's loud voice cuts through the chatter in the bar as she nearly screams in annoyance.

"Gods above! What sort of port city is this? No gambling...none...that's almost illegal!"
Lord_Gareth

03-25-07, 07:33 PM
"Madam," the man begins politely, turning his head to make eye contact with Emya, "Perhaps you are unaware, and I forgive you if you are, but gambling is a sin. I would not reccomend it. And besides, when was the last time you met an honest gambler, in any city?"

He stands and faces Emya before bowing low in respect.

"Selendric Dawnfather, at your service madam."
Gideon_Gideonson

03-25-07, 07:52 PM
"Sin? S'pose it is. But if you only knew the half of it, matey. Gamblin's the least of my troubles. I makes those dishonest gamblers look like angels, so I do."

Again spitting in her hand, she offers it to Selendric.

"I'm Emya Corizu. Pleasure to meet ya."
Lord_Gareth

03-25-07, 07:59 PM
Selendirc smiles broadly, spitting into his own hand before shaking firmly with Emya. As he does, he focuses on detecting evil intent in the room, trying hard not to betray his action by his expression.

"Well, good to see someone down to their roots. I haven't had the chance to do that since I first became a Knight Aspirant. What brings you hear? The tourney? Profit? Or do you just need to roll some bones?"
Damior

03-25-07, 08:34 PM
Lord Gareth Only No one n the room detects as evil
Gideon_Gideonson

03-25-07, 09:31 PM
Emya detects as faintly evil (she's not evil aligned, but since this isn't strict rules, he can tell that she's not the paragon of virtue by any means).

"Listen. I'd still be off shore if some dogs hadn't sent my ship down to the Deep. If I decide to go for that tourney, it's for the money, and that's it. I need a new vessel."

Emya looks longingly out the inn's windows at the distant ocean.

"I can't stay away this long..."
Lord_Gareth

03-25-07, 09:44 PM
Well, in case anyone casts detect thoughts, Selendric comes up as Lawful Stupid :P. A thinking man, this is not. He can B.S. enough to act smart, but he ain't...

Oh, and italics is thoughts. Just so the DM knows.

A curious expression crosses the tiefling's face, something between pity, confusion, empathy, and determination.

"Go to the tourney. I'll travel with you there, and no matter which one of us wins, I'll give you the earnings. And before you say no, I do this willingly. I have no need for the money, and I am happy to help those less fortunate."

This woman is on the edge..but Kolka always said no one is beyond saving. Maybe I can teach her on the way. But, even if I don't, she deserves this more than I do. I know that longing stare, that feeling...
Gideon_Gideonson

03-25-07, 09:54 PM
Emya tears her eyes away from the window and looks sideways at Selendirc.

"Well now, that's mighty kind. But...and 'scuse me for pryin'...but why would you be wanting to do that for me? Everyone needs money, matey. And for you ta risk your life for me...well...makes a person think a bit."
Lord_Gareth

03-25-07, 09:57 PM
Selendric looks mildly confused, but meets Emya's eyes.

"I know that look, the one you gave to the sea. When you want something, need something enough that you can't live without it. I've found my something. I just thought it would be nice to help you get yours back. As to risking my life...isn't that what anyone would do?"
Gideon_Gideonson

03-25-07, 10:12 PM
Emya throws her arm about the tiefling's shoulders.

"You're a good man, matey. And I thank you for your generosity. But you've got a lot to learn."

As she talks, her free hand slides up to her back, where it rests against her spine. Her fingers spread, running across her back. Back and forth...back and forth.

"Not everyone's like that, matey. Some people would as soon slit your throat as bid ye good mornin'. Trust me...those are the people I deal with, matey, and thank your lucky stars you can stay away from 'em."

She drops her roving hand to her side, and brings it back up again, holding a dagger.

"See matey...you deal with that kind o' person, and you be needing one o' these for to long."
Lord_Gareth

03-26-07, 07:57 PM
Selendric nods, gesturing to his mace.

"I am not completely naive. But I believe that anyone who acts that way does not deserve to be called a sentient being. I refer to them as monsters, and in the eyes of the Knights, they are judged as such. But, are you willing to accept my help? Because we have to leave soon if you're going."
Gideon_Gideonson

03-26-07, 08:05 PM
"Yes I am, and I'm ready to leave whenever...I just need to get me money back, since I suppose we're not spending the night 'ere.
Lord_Gareth

03-26-07, 08:10 PM
Selendric winces slightly in embarassment.

"I didn't know you'd already paid for a room. Can you meet me outside the city gates in the morning, then? We could leave tomorrow, and that gives you time to get your things. I'm fairly certain we can make it walking. Which means we better be able to, because I have no horse..."

He trails off, his ashy skin growing red in the face as he blushes. The tiefling adjusts his belt importantly and coughs slightly as he looks away towards the rest of the room.
Gideon_Gideonson

03-26-07, 08:34 PM
"Morning it is, matey. Whenever you want. I don't have nothing to gather. Everything I have is on me now."

Emya reaches out and taps on the knight's shoulder.

"Say...you want a drink?"

Yeah...he has no horse, but a pirate isn't used to knights, so someone else will have to ask for that story. :D
Lord_Gareth

03-26-07, 08:37 PM
"Actually," he says without turning around, engaged with looking at Kyyt, "I already ordered one. It has yet to arrive. You know that man?"

He gestures to the unusual human while turning back to Emya.
Gideon_Gideonson

03-26-07, 08:55 PM
"Hmm? Oh, yeah. That's Kyyt. Don't know much about him, honestly. But he's interested in the tourney as well. That's why I'm with him."
ank

03-26-07, 10:01 PM
Kyyt comes walking up the two after paying for his room.

Well, we're all set then, I'd best find a way to pass the time. But I see you've found a new aquantance. Gooday sir, I am Kyyt, you?
Damior

03-30-07, 02:21 PM
"Here are your drinks sirs" the kobold puts a glass of wine and a mug of ale onto the counter.
ank

03-30-07, 04:38 PM
Ahhh, thank you.

Kyyt takes a deep swig of his mug and hands the kobald another silver, unwilling to dig in his pouch for a more appropriate tip, for the hassle of delivering the drinks.
Damior

03-30-07, 09:22 PM
The kobold nods and takes the silver, returning to his position behind the main counter
Lord_Gareth

04-01-07, 07:52 PM
"Selendric Dawnfather, at your service. So you, too, are interested in the tourney?"

The tiefling takes a sip of the wine, swishing it about in his mouth.

"Nice wine, just a hint of bitterness. Okay, so I'm the only one on the planet who likes that, but still."
ank

04-02-07, 09:31 AM
Well, I suppose having a bitter taste would tend to keep your costs down. Nice to meet you Selendric.

Kyyt extends a hand to him.
Damior

OOC: where in the nine hells in Lord Gareth?
ank

04-08-07, 08:45 AM
In hiding...But if you say anything against him, he will bring his cold, unholy wrath down upon your head. Trust me, already happened in the Battle Royal. Fortunately, he was kidding. He's definately got the time for the nexus and a little for the battle royal, but everything else seems to be on hold...which means three of the roleplaying threads I'm in.

Don't know how you want to handle this.
Lord_Gareth

04-08-07, 09:33 AM
Aw, Ank! If you warn people, how do you expect natural selection to weed them out? Now I gotta find someone else to dupe into making me mad. Incidentally, I've been excercising the fine art of procrastination.

Oh, and Kyyt was in the room when Selendric detected evil, so did it come up with anything on him?

Selendric takes the hand in a strong shake.

"Will you be traveling with us? I've offered to go with Miss Emya, and she's accepted. Another sword couldn't hurt at all."
ank

04-09-07, 03:33 PM
Well, I believe that natural selection only works when a person is killed. I severly hope that your spite doesn't kill from across the internet. Im sure you can find someone else to make you mad. For example, im sure I saw LarzFang complaining over in the Blood and Darkness thread ;)

Oh, and no, Kyyt does not come up as evil.

Well of course I'm coming, I'm the one who told her about the tournament in the first place, and it sounds like she just told you. I figure we should take a day to rest and supply ourselves for the road ahead, and then get moving, what say you?
Lord_Gareth

04-09-07, 03:37 PM
"I knew about the tourney long before she did, sir. I came here aboard the Pheonix Royal. Miss Emya and I had already planned on setting out tomorrow morning from the city gates. Which reminds me, I must get back to my camp. If I leave it too long, some bear is bound to get into my supplies. Good day sir."

Selendric stands up and gives Kyyt an odd salute, the first finger and thumb of his hand touching against his chest. With a subtle sweep of his cape, the tiefling leaves and begins walking towards the gates of the city.
Gideon_Gideonson

04-09-07, 03:37 PM
Emya sidles over, a tankard of ale in either hand.

"Sounds like a plan."
ank

04-14-07, 08:45 PM
ooc: ok, someones got to get this moving, so I'll stir things up a bit.

Well then, lets see here, what am I going to need for a three month journey.

he hold up his hand and begins counting things out on his hand while staring absentmindedly at the ceiling

Food, probably some extra water, traveling gear and clothes, perhaps some firewood, candles, torches, some entertainment, oh, and some alcohol.

He looks back down to Emya and whoever else happens to be nearby.

Journey's going to be really long, woe be to the one who isn't packing a bottle or two.

He takes a while to finish his beer and then walks back over to the barkeep and catches the scaly creatures attention.

I'll have a refill.

He reaches into a pocket for the proper coins. While the barkeep fetches his drink, Kyyt adds casually.

Thats some nice liquor you've got there, anything of yours come in bottles?
Damior

04-14-07, 10:52 PM
"It does, ten gold a bottle."
ank

04-14-07, 10:56 PM
Marvelous, I'll take three. One for everyone in our little group if they manage to forget.

He thinks. And then he realizes that that would leave him with only one bottle. The utter horror!

Actually, you'd better make that four. whew, better start pinching copper after this, im getting expensive.
Damior

04-14-07, 11:26 PM
"Four bottles, here you are."
Gideon_Gideonson

04-15-07, 03:48 PM
Emya stares at Kyyt as he places his order, then immediately jumps behind him in line, pushing the other patrons out of the way.

"Excellent idea, matey! I'll have four as well!"
Damior

04-15-07, 04:07 PM
OOC: there were no others in line besides Kyyt

"Four for you as well then, that will be forty gold
Gideon_Gideonson

04-15-07, 04:22 PM
OOC: Hope you don't mind that I added a few random drunks, just for the image of her suddenly shoving her way to the front for wine :D

BIC:

Grumbling to herself about outrageous prices, Emya pushes over the 40 gold.
Damior

04-15-07, 07:09 PM
OOC: Not at all

The kobold pulls another four bottles from below the counter and gives them to Emya.
Damior

04-18-07, 09:32 PM
OOC: You guys still here?
Lord_Gareth

04-18-07, 09:42 PM
Yeah, I think it'd be prudent to set these guys a-sleepin' and get a move on th ough. Selendric is campin' outside the city, waiting for them to start the journey.
Damior

04-19-07, 10:48 AM
OC: Right, Ill give them 2 days to post, but after that Im skipping ahead to keep the game moving.
Gideon_Gideonson

04-19-07, 02:19 PM
OOC: By all means skip ahead. Emya going to bed isn't even post worthy. Let's get on with the story.
Damior

04-19-07, 06:28 PM
OOC: Very well, after the night you said you go to the city gates? Ok, well skip to there then.

IC: After a bit of a walk, you reach the northwestern gate of Monim City. It is set in a ten foot wall, with a guard post on each side, with the left one empty, the man who is supposed to be stationed there at the right one, talking with the guard there. Beyond the gate is a wide road that enters into a forest in the distance.
ank

04-19-07, 07:14 PM
Kyyt readjusts his backpack on his shoulders and waves a hand in greeting to Selandric.

Good day and well met, ready for the long journey ahead good Selandric?
Damior

04-28-07, 11:29 PM
OOC: Ok... I guess were jumping ahead again.

IC: A short distance down the road, a hooded man jumps in front of you. "Im sorry, but I cant let you pass till you pay the toll. Thirty gold."
ank

04-29-07, 10:19 AM
Ya, Gareth is essentially gone. I'm sure he'll pop back up, but Gareth's got some major problems in RL right now, and it's questionable about being on at all. I would simply recomend that none of us make any direct references to his charecter for awhile and that should keep the game going twixt Gideon and myself.

Kyyt's eyebrows raise in surprise as his eyes buldge out slightly. This quickly passes though, and he regains his composture. He looks at the man with suspision, with his left eybrow raised slightly and the other furrowed curiously.

That's funny, I've never heard of a toll before. I'd rather not pay 'till I know whos road this is that he thinks he can collect from it. Thirty gold doth be a large sum of money.

He then takes the liberty to scan his surroundings to see if there be any other such cloaked figures in the surrounding area.

This doesn't look legitimate, not at all. where does the man get the guts to ask for thirty gold from three armed travelers?
Gideon_Gideonson

04-29-07, 10:38 AM
Emya saunthers over to the man and leans nonchalantly on his shoulder, one hand on her sword hilt.

"Look, matey. Nothin' personal, but ya gotta understand...us? We don't like partin' with money. And now ya want us to. With me so far?"

"Good. Here be the catch. Can ya count? I'll assume so for the moment. Now...which is greater: zero gold, or gettin' you stomach split apart?"

"Take yer time. We be in no hurry. Either way's just fine with us."
Damior

04-29-07, 11:37 AM
The man steps back from Emya. "A threat eh? Im not afraid. He grips the hilt of a blade beneath his cloak and points up at a tree behind him with his other hand. Another cloaked figure is sitting on a particularly large branch, bow at the ready. "We are more than capable of beating the money out of you if you so prefer."
Gideon_Gideonson

04-29-07, 08:39 PM
"Huh...that's mighty interestin', if ya don't mind my saying so. Still..."

Emya leans forward, beckoning the man close as she gets ready to whisper something to him.
Damior

04-29-07, 08:43 PM
The man pauses for a second, then goes to listen to what Emya has to say
Gideon_Gideonson

04-29-07, 08:47 PM
As the man leans in, Emya's other hand comes around, and the pommel of her dagger collides heavily with the base of the man's skull, hopefully knocking him senseless. Either way, she swings him around in front of her to screen her body from the archer. As she does so, she whispers in her prisoner's ear.

"...you're mighty gullible."
Damior

04-29-07, 08:55 PM
No sooner does Emya do this than twin silver blue bolts of energy fly from behind a tree, striking Emya. The man, dazed by the blow to the head, staggers backwards and clumsily draws his rapier. Shaking his head violently to get back to his senses, he yells to the archer "Open fire!" The archer complies and looses an arrow, which lands in the dirt a few inches to the right of Emya's feet.
Lord_Gareth

04-29-07, 09:01 PM
"I'll ignore that treacherous blow for now."

Selendric's hand flies for his mace as the paladin begins moving towards the source of the spell. It begins slowly, but as he gains momentum and straps on his shield, it becomes faster, more fierce. The knight rounds the tree swinging viciously, unwilling to take chances where mages are concerned.
Gideon_Gideonson

04-29-07, 09:03 PM
Emya gasps in pain, but draws her rapier even as she doubles over. Spring up, she lunges gracefully, the lethal point seeking for the heart of the dazed bandit.
ank

04-29-07, 09:48 PM
Kyyt has his sword out in no time flat and gives it a test swing as he circles around the bandit.

I say, this is like highway robbery.

He comes up from behind the bandit and times his swing with Emya's thrust, hoping to catch him in a sandwich. The veteran warrior's blade inches towards a well-picked vital spot...
Damior

05-04-07, 02:27 PM
The mage howls in pain as Selendric's mace slams into her arm. The swordsman dives to the side at the last second, avoiding a deadly blow but still taking a serious wound to his side. "Ugh," he cries, landing heavily on his sword arm, "We're outmatched, lets get out of here!" He struggles to his feet and starts running down the road, followed by the archer, who jumps down from the tree. The mage follows suit and runs as well.
ank

05-11-07, 04:19 PM
Look at that! One meager show of force and they're stumbling over themselves to get away.

He holds his sword in front of him and looks down at it.

Ugh, and he left his blood all over my blade too, how sloppy. Now, because of his foolishness, I'm going to have to take the time to clean it.

He walks off to the side of the road to find some nice, tall grass or a bush to wipe his blade on.

The absolute nerve.
Damior

05-18-07, 02:25 PM
OOC: Right then, moving on

IC: Further along the road, after about a half hour's walk, you spy something unusual about a bush along the side of the road: someones leg is sticking out from under it.
Gideon_Gideonson

05-18-07, 02:53 PM
Emya kneels down to look at the leg, poking it lightly with the tip of her blade.

"Huh. Looks like the bandit's are out in force today!"
ank

05-18-07, 08:40 PM
Well, what've we got here.

Kyyt kneels down beside Emya and gets a hold on the leg. He then uses it to pull whatever's attatched to it out of the bush.
Damior

05-18-07, 09:08 PM
The leg is attached to a rather unconcious gnome. He is not obviously bleeding, though he does have a rather nasty bruise on the back of his neck. He possesses only a waterskin and the clothes on his back, he seems to have been mugged recently.
ank

05-18-07, 10:34 PM
Kyyt checks for a pulse quickly using the two fingers of his right hand as he watches for breath. Heal Check to see if basically alive)

Indeed, the muggers have been out today. I hope this guys ok.
Damior

05-19-07, 08:08 AM
The gnome is alive
Lord_Gareth

05-19-07, 02:06 PM
Solemnly, Selendric removes his plate gauntlets, gently pushing Kyyt out of the way. Laying his hands on the gnome's chest, the tiefling's eyes close and his face turns serene. A holy nimbus surrounds his hands, and then flows into the gnome's chest, sealing wounds and resetting bones.

Slowly, the paladin opens his eyes and then stands, replacing his gauntlets on his hands.

"He should be fine now."
Damior

05-19-07, 03:54 PM
The gnome wakes up, looks around, and imediately starts panicking. "Where is it? Where is it!? Oh gods Im in trouble!"
Lord_Gareth

05-20-07, 08:10 AM
Selendric calmly and gently presses on the gnome's chest with one hand in order to keep the diminuitive man from hurting himself.

"Calm, friend, calm yourself. You'll hurt yourself. What are you looking for?"
Damior

05-20-07, 07:05 PM
"The, uh, cargo, I was carrying food up to Kanotch for the feast, and then some bandit comes, beats me in the back of the head, and takes my cargo, leaving me here on the side of the road!"
ank

06-05-07, 10:20 PM
((did we unanimously and silently decide to let this thread drop?))

Surely a feast cannot occur with the goods carried in ones arms. Perhaps you had a cart? Or are you just one of many who are expected to bring forth food for the feast?
Damior

06-06-07, 06:57 AM
OOC: I hope not

"I had a cart... they must have taken it with them..."
ank

06-06-07, 05:50 PM
They can't have gone too far with a wagon in tow, and they'd at least leave us some followable tracks.

He extends an open hand to the gnome

Can you stand?
Damior

06-08-07, 08:41 PM
"Yes, yes I can stand. I just took a nasty hit to my head. As for the tracks, I dont know where I am, they must not have dumped me near where they took it, I bet the dragged me off a bit so I couldnt follow them. But thy couldnt have gone too far..." The gnome says that last bit a bit nervously.
Gideon_Gideonson

06-09-07, 07:04 PM
"Wait just a second...why do we care? Can someone explain why this is our problem?"
ank

06-09-07, 11:50 PM
Before righteous Selandric can jump in with an expected lecture on being upright and noble, Kyyt steps in with an explanation.

Well, assuming that they followed the road, then this little wagon of food should be on our way. If the previous bandits were anything to judge on, getting back the wagon should be a piece of goodberry pie.
Gideon_Gideonson

06-10-07, 12:02 AM
Emya stares at the man as if he were insane.

"Obviously. But why do we CARE? It's simply faster to go on...food and wagon not withstanding."
Niek

06-10-07, 07:06 AM
The gnome starts begging, "I will reward you, Ill give you all the money I have, just, please help me get that wagon back!"

Edit: OOC: Ugh, I keep using the wrong account. Now how am I going to take down Gleemax from the inside?
Lord_Gareth

06-12-07, 11:41 AM
Selendric does not look angry at Emya - to the contrary, he looks understanding.

"Emya, we will help him, and furthermore, we will do so without any reward. He is someone in need, and that is reason enough. I don't expect you to understand, but while you travel with us, you will have to do things like this. It's the right thing to do, and that is reward enough."

The tiefling helps the gnome stand, and replaces his gauntlets on his hands.

"Let's find that wagon, friend."
Gideon_Gideonson

06-12-07, 11:44 AM
Emya slumps over, temporarily defeated, and mutters beneath her breath.

"Stupid gnomes, getting beaten up and forcing US to halt our plans to go WAGON CHASING in some godsforsaken forest..."
Lord_Gareth

06-12-07, 11:48 AM
Selendric puts his hand on Emya's shoulder gently.

"Can I speak with you in private before we start?" he says gently.
Gideon_Gideonson

06-12-07, 11:50 AM
"What? Soz you can lecture me?"
Lord_Gareth

06-12-07, 11:51 AM
"No. And I never will. My master once told me that ramming right down someone's throat will only make them want to vomit it up."
Gideon_Gideonson

06-12-07, 11:56 AM
"Fine. But make it fast."
Lord_Gareth

06-12-07, 12:09 PM
Selendric leads Emya a bit off the path before turning about to face her, locking gazes. He hesitates a moment or two before speaking.

"I am not going to force my beliefs on you. That is a practice that some other Knights champion, but not me. I know it chafes at you to do things like this, especially when it looks like there is no profit to be made, so I want to make this promise to you - if Kyyt and I make you do something that ultimately does not benefit us in some way, I will find a way to make it worth your while."

He pauses, searching for words again.

"I was...a lot like you, once. I made my living by robbing and cheating, swindling anyone I could and never giving anything back. I hope that one day, you can come to the same realization I did. C'mon, let's go help the gnome."

With that, he turns and clanks back to his other companion and their newfound gnomish friend.
Gideon_Gideonson

06-12-07, 12:14 PM
Emya glares after him, her hand stroking the pommel of her dagger. However, she keeps it sheathed and walks grumpily after the retreating knight.
Niek

06-23-07, 06:12 PM
After a short while, the gnome, who has been walking a bit ahead of the party, spies the tracks of a wagon in a muddy part of the trail. "Aha! There they went, I can tel its my wagon by marks made by the horseshoes, only the Beranian army's horshoes have that pattern!"
