| Ed-Zero12-23-07, 11:53 PM | I seem to remember that there was a WOTC (online) template that could be applied to a creature giving the creature all of the upsides of being undead (truckload of immunities) without the negatives (no con, can't be turned, etc..). If so, this could create an immensly powerful character at first level [theoretically that is, if anyone can find it]. So, can anyone find it? I've searching multiple times and have come up with nothing. If not, are there any ways to achieve this seemingly impossible task? |
| FriendlyFrog12-24-07, 08:50 AM | All I can think of is the Bone knight PrC from Five nations, it gives you most of the undead immunities without actually changing your type. Probably not what you were looking for. I hope someone can find the template, I'd like to see that also. |
| rincewindhalfmage12-24-07, 06:45 PM | if such a template exsists orcus has it aplied to him he has all the immunities and none of the weaknesses |
| Ed-Zero12-24-07, 07:00 PM | I believe I found it! I was looking up conditions when I came across this beauty: Dread Champion (Minds eye) (http://64.223.12.31/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20030628a) I'll post the most important parts right here. Requirements To qualify to become a dread champion, a character must fulfill all the following criteria. Alignment: Any nongood. Skills: Knowledge (religion) 5 ranks. Manifesting: Ability to manifest a 4th-level psychic warrior power. Special: Must have defeated an undead creature that has an Intelligence score. 1st level abilities: Undeath (Ex): By embracing this path, the dread champion becomes an undead creature. He becomes immune to poison, sleep, paralysis, polymorphing, stunning, disease, death effects, and necromantic effects. He also ignores mind-influencing effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects), but he is still subject to psionic combat. Dread champions are also not subject to critical hits, subdual damage, ability damage, ability drain, or energy drain. He has no Constitution score and is therefore immune to any effect requiring a Fortitude save (unless it affects objects). A dread champion uses his Charisma modifier when making Concentration checks. As an undead, a dread champion is no longer healed normally. He requires negative energy (such as an inflict wounds spell) to heal, though regeneration and fast healing effects work normally. A dread champion is not at risk of death due to massive damage, but he is immediately destroyed if reduced to 0 hit points or less. He can no longer be raisedor resurrected. He can be brought back to existence only through use of a wish or psionic reality alteration. A dread champion gains darkvision with a range of 60 feet. A dread champion can be turned.A dread champion can no longer use Psychometabolism powers and uses his Charisma modifier for Psychokinetic powers. -- Now then, since it's not a template and it doesn't even seem to apply a template (it just makes the creature become undead) it looks like it works. The beauty of this class is that at 5th level you gain immunity to turning. That's one thing that as a undead creature, I would be consistently afraid of having that done to me (turning or rebuking, I hate the idea of either being instantly destroyed or being under someone else's command). |
| rincewindhalfmage12-25-07, 09:35 AM | its a little outdated but cool |
| Ed-Zero12-28-07, 08:00 PM | So, for the sake of completeness, here's a list of all the immunities this undead warforged would get: Immunities: poison sleep effects paralysis disease nausea fatigue exhaustion effects that cause the sickened condition energy drain eating sleeping breathing polymorphing stunning death effects necromantic effects mind-influencing effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects) critical hits subdual damage ability damage ability drain immune to any effect requiring a Fortitude save (unless it affects objects) massive damage Immunity to turning (at level 5 of the Dread Champion PrC) Cold (At 7th level) Unfortunately, you lose your constitution score with this combination, but in the end, due to the boatload of immunities, I feel it's worth it. Also unfortunate, you have to be able to manifest 4th level psychic warrior powers to get into the PrC. Although, the way it's worded, you can be a Psion and get in at 7th level, just find a 4th level psychic warrior power to manifest and your gold. |
| 1 ton ghost12-29-07, 02:29 PM | how would they even achive undeath if they are immune to the core energy that grants it? i guess i don't understand, but Eberron isn't my strong suit. seems unbalanced IMO firstly, but mechanically, i'm not sure how they coudl do that. metaphorically, flavor-wise, seems wrong |
| CrimsonDeath01-01-08, 05:51 PM | Warforged aren't immune to negative energy. I think they even take full damage from Inflict spells. A level 4 Warforged Juggernaut is immune to necromancy effects (which includes most attacks that would deal negative energy damage), but I don't think we were trying to make an undead Juggy. |
| NiteCyper01-27-08, 01:48 AM | I don't get it. Could someone rate the brokenness of this PrC on a scale of 1-10? |
| BetaSquirrell01-28-08, 07:36 PM | I'd say about 7.5ish for a normal game, 4-5ish on the scale of stuff we normally see around here (it would be higher if you kept the con score). It's kind of like Twice-Betrayer Lite - it's a cheap way to get immunity to quite a lot. |
| loganic102-03-08, 11:26 AM | But if he loses his Con score, doesn't he gain the racial HD of undead, d12? Typically, I see losing the Con score as an advantage because it means I can use Con as a dump stat then, if I'm going to get d12 HD. |

Not very useful, for a race that gets a bonus to Constitution and penalties to two other ability scores. |
| Zax02-03-08, 10:50 PM | Not very useful, for a race that gets a bonus to Constitution and penalties to two other ability scores. In point-buy it's kinda useful (leave con at 8, gain probably 4-6 points), and even better if you can 'buy-back' points, ie, drop a score below 8 (set it at 1, gain 7 points)) |
| altpersona02-06-08, 12:40 PM | except for the amount of the build you have to dedicate to the psychic stuff, it seems near perfect for a berserk type... raging w/ out fatigue, and really with out consequence... unarmed, raging? cause who cares what it touches... with a list of immunities like that, it might be handy to list what is isnt immune to.. |
| McPoyo02-07-08, 11:48 AM | That reference to 3.0 psionic combat modes made me sad :( |
| NiteCyper02-09-08, 08:55 PM | We need a build. |
| true_shinken02-10-08, 12:26 AM | I think the problem here is 3.0 psionics was COMPLETLY different from 3.5 psionics. I don't think any material from the 3.0 psionics era is compatible with 3.5; I think it's simply forgotten and most of it was revisited in Mind's Eye anyway. |
