Quick question on what to do in the following scenario.

I have a 9th level Blastificer who loves his wand of acid orb. However, I have encountered an AMF once or twice and this really screws me over. Any thoughts on how to overcome AMF with an Artificer specializing in Wands and blasting in general?

Fire into the AMF from outside. You can do it just fine.

11-04-06, 11:36 PM You must have a clear line of effect to any target that you cast a spell on or to any space in which you wish to create an effect. You must have a clear line of effect to the point of origin of any spell you cast.

On the other hand, some things that you can see through can block line of effect, such as a wall of force or an antimagic field. Though the rules don't specifically say so, you always have line of effect to yourself.

An orb of acid [...] shoots from your palm at its target. You must succeed on a ranged touch attack to hit your target.

That seems to indicate that orbs of acid don't actually work through AMFs, unless Skip is wrong. I mean, you could argue that the orb doesn't actually need line of effect to its target because it doesn't have "target" in the spell parameter block, but it still obviously requires a target. If it doesn't target, in the magical sense, then its range should be not "25+5 ft/2 levels" but "like maybe a foot or two", because it says it forms on or from your palm.

You can also say that AMF explicitly calls out instantaneous conjurations. It doesn't. It calls out the effects of instantaneous conjurations. As you check for line of effect, there is no effect yet, and so it can't be exempt.

I know something as wonky and RAW-intensive as AMF vs orb of blah has been beaten to death on a forum like this, but a google search didn't turn up anything resembling my particular take on it. So, sorry if this is a thoroughly dead horse.

It is creating an effect localy and throwing the conjured effect at the target.

AMF would stop stuff like rays, but as an instantaenous Conjuration (Creation) effect, Orb of "Whatever" should go right through.
