| GaffeR10-17-06, 08:17 PM | So, how can one become an outsider with no ECL and without the Otherworldy feat (Eberron only)? Abilities gained from class levels, as I'm trying to get this with an Archer//Artificer build (can you say Arrow Demon?). Books would be Core+, Completes (sans Mage), Races, Eberron (sans Faiths), possibly UA, ToM (likely Pact only), ToB, Frostburn, Sandstorm, Stormwrack. Perhaps a 0 ECL race in the Planar Handbook? Thanks in advance. |
| PhoenixInferno10-17-06, 08:18 PM | Neraph (Planar Handbook) |
| GaffeR10-17-06, 08:27 PM | Oh, there's an option. I always wanted to look like a red slaad. Perhaps an LA bought off Aasimar. The +2 Cha definately helps. Maybe a Tiefling would be worth the -2 Cha. |
| Midnight_v10-17-06, 08:31 PM | Yeah, that was realll snappy of you, when he gave you the answer you wanted, and you didn't specify. "Make me pretty" so yeah. Neraph. |
| GaffeR10-17-06, 08:35 PM | Hey, I actually always HAVE wanted to look like a red slaad! |
| Midnight_v10-17-06, 08:39 PM | Oh... my bad then... :surrender |
| sigma99910-17-06, 08:56 PM | Make him happy... neraph, with alot of makeup. A little blush, a wig, good to go. |
| Endarire10-17-06, 09:04 PM | You could take the no ECL versions from the Savage Species article (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20040319a). -EE |
| AZNsupermarket10-17-06, 09:07 PM | the only one is the nepharim Neraphim: none, medium, 30 ft., ranger, outsider, planar handbook pg.12 |
| GaffeR10-17-06, 09:33 PM | Oh... my bad then... Np, we all expect cynicsm here. neraph, with alot of makeup. A little blush, a wig, good to go. Actually, a blonde curly wig on a Neraph would be hiliarious. :D You could take the no ECL versions from the Savage Species article (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20040319a). -EE The way I read that article, it says that first you take an ECL race (ie, Aasimar at +1), then dip into this transition class for a few levels to become a full fledged upgraded version of that race (Half-Celestial here). Am I misreading? I'm thinkin the best way to go is either the Neraph or the LA buyoff Aasimar. Hopefully the DM'll allow 1 of the 2. Thanks for the info. |

| Ikeren10-17-06, 09:44 PM | HAHA! I got caught be the same thing. Anybody who had that article bookmarked, the numbers changed somehow. |
| GaffeR10-17-06, 09:45 PM | Wrong article. The one you want is this: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/20040213a Damn! That's handy stuff. That version of the Aasimar looks damn tasty for an Arti. Much obliged. |
| Think002810-17-06, 09:56 PM | No problem, glad to help. |
| Surreal10-17-06, 11:37 PM | At +1, the Bauriar (Planar Handbook) are quite worth it. Base speed 40' and SR = 11+HD, darkvision, outsider type. Actually, a blonde curly wig on a Neraph would be hiliarious. :D I getting this horrible vision of Kermit and Miss Piggy... |
| GaffeR10-18-06, 12:26 AM | At +1, the Bauriar (Planar Handbook) are quite worth it. Base speed 40' and SR = 11+HD, darkvision, outsider type. Interesting option. The Cha hurts, and the Str bonus doesn't do a whole lot for an archeficer, though. Definately worth considering, however. I getting this horrible vision of Kermit and Miss Piggy... ...with some serious burn trauma. :uh-huh: |
| Elderich10-19-06, 07:44 PM | If you are polymorphing, all you need is the otherworldy subtype, which is granted by quite a few spells. I am not sure if one of the books you have has such a spell in it, but "Feindform" from Spell Compendium is one source. I think there are a few with a lower caster level. So one can cast Fiendform, then polymorph. |
| Save-vs-DM10-19-06, 07:49 PM | Just to emphasize, a -2 Charisma hit to an Artificer really isn't that big a deal. The only thing that Charisma helps is Use Magic Device. While this is the key Artificer skill, a bunch of nice abilities are certianly worth a -1 to Use Magic Device. You can get an item of +5 UMD for 2,500 gp (which you can make yourself), so I really don't look at Charisma for an artificer. Intelligence is much more important, since Infusions run on Intelligence. For that reason, I'd actually go with Tiefling over Aasimar, especially in your build. +2 to Dex and Int is well worth that piddly -2 Cha. You can play an awesome Artificer with nothing more than a 12 Charisma. Cheers, Save vs DM |
