+1 LA race for dextrous cleric? [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-21-06, 08:32 AM I'm looking for a nice +1 LA race for a Ruby Knight Vindicator with Shadow Blade feat - which means all I really need is Dex and Wis (and Cha for turn attempts). My DM has allowed the players to pick a +1 LA race for free, but I'm not into unusual races, hence my request. If I do opt for a +0 LA race, I get a +2 bonus in any stat (but with the usual restrction for maximum stats). Standard races are not allowed - currently, I'm going for a lesser drow, which sucks but it's kinda cool. Specially because I'm not Chaotic Good and I'm not wielding dual scimitars ;)

Most WoTC 3.5 books are allowed, except for Psionics. Whatever creature type is allowed, except for fey and outsider.

Thoughts?

08-21-06, 09:14 AM Well a Marrulurk (Sandstorm) is a +1LA race with +2 Str, +6 Dex, +4 Con, +6 Wis, +4 Cha, 2NA, and nice Racial abilities (resistance to fire 5 and dessication 10, the ability to detect the presence of living creatures within 30ft by hearing their heartbeat, 2d6 sneak attack, cha-based death attack, a 1/day nausiating breath weapon, poison use, point blank shot and rapid shot bonus feats, +4 on Listen, Hide, and Move silently).

Of-course there is a downside, it has 3 racial HD. Still, with how initiator level works you could go Marrulurk 3/Cleric 1/Cruisader 1/RKV 10/XYZ 5 to start-off and have your choice of 2nd level maneuvers at the start. Still, that's not perfect as I'm guessing you're wanting to use Assasin's Stance to qualify for Shadow Blade at 6th level. Otherwise the soonest you can get assasin's stance is at 9th level (using a feat) or 11th level without.

Another option is to go Swordsage (wis to AC) and get the Devoted Spirit abilities with feats... Marrulurk 3/Cleric 1/Swordsage 2/RKV 10/XYZ 4, taking the Martial Study and Martial Stance feats. Take Cloistered Cleric if it's allowed for the extra skill points. Yes, you'll have to buy some cross-class skills but Swordsage gets a good number of skill points per level.
