MJ the Prophet 07-22-05, 04:14 PM	Okay, I posted this in the D&D Races forum, and it was suggested that I post it here. I'm working on a new character in a rather unique situation. The DM is encouraging high power and unique racial choices, so he's cutting off up to 5 from LA. I'm seriously looking at the Unbodied for my character, but they are +4 LA, and he's giving nothing special for giving up that potential +1 more. So, I'm looking for templates! There's celestial and infernal, but I'm setting those aside; we have enough of those kind (maybe) in the group already. I'd thought of axiomatic, but I'm starting to lean away from it, and I don't have the MotP to check it out anyway. Is there a list of templates by LA anywhere? Or, if not, I'd love suggestions. Who knows, this could be a post that turns in to the "Templates by LA" post. So, for more detail, we're looking at an Unbodied Psion(telepath) going into Thrallherd. Any help?
Pellanor 07-22-05, 06:11 PM	first off, you can go here (http://www.crystalkeep.com/d20/rules/DnD3.5Index-Templates.pdf) to download a pdf of a large number of templates. The LA +1 templates in there are: Half Fey, Half Satyr, Half-Minotaur, Half-Ogre and Gheden

MJ the Prophet 07-22-05, 11:05 PM	Well, the problem I'd noticed for this character is that he's incorporeal. That kills a lot of templates. I mentioned on the other thread that feral would just be hilarious!

Aurelius 07-23-05, 08:55 AM	You could take Phrenic. You would end up with +1 LA, but you get power resistance, as well as +4 to mental attributes, end lots of free powers for when you run out.
MJ the Prophet 07-23-05, 09:20 AM	I hadn't thought of phrenic. I looked it up, though, and the only problem is that the unbodied already have the psionic subtype, so it can't be applied to them.

MJ the Prophet 07-23-05, 10:32 AM	Yes, I've considered the ghost. I have two reasons why I'd prefer the unbodied. 1. There is another ghost in the party, and I'd prefer to be unique in ways other than class. The DM is going for interesting, strange characters, hence the LA break. 2. I'm not keen on being undead. All the little abilities are nice, but I'd rather be alive, and avoid the penalties of being undead.

Normally yes, Saint is LA+2 Build w/o houserule Unbodied 4HD, LA+4 Saint LA+2 DM's House Ruled LA (-5) for each player so: Build w/houserule Unbodied 4 HD Saint LA+1 I stand by: Vow of Poverty Unbodied 4HD/ Saint Template LA+1/ Psion 5/ Illithid Slayer 10 it's a strong build for what your situation

Come to the Dark Side. :D Seriously, check out the Dry Lich in Sandstorm. You get 5 phylacteries which if you are clever in hiding them in seperate places makes you nearly unkillable. If you optimize your charisma you will have hitpoints comparable to a barbarian or fighter, and all the other fun little Dry Lich abilities. Other than the smell (just put in your description that all the flesh is rotted away, you're just a clean skeleton, no smell) and the appearance (hat of disguise is cheap) there are very little drawbacks at all. And you're immune to just about everything except physical damage. But then again it has been a while since I read the Unbodied in detail. See if you can take Feral just for the fast healing. That by itself is worth the +1 LA.

Sounds like the perfect (and rare) opportunity to take up a Black Ethergaunt. +4 LA, and just go straight up the obvious racial HD=Spellcasting Levels path. If you're looking for another +1 LA to get max useage of your "Free 5 Levels", I'd suggest looking at Underdark's Mineral Warrior... I'm not 100% sure on whether you can apply that to an Ethergaunt (Aberration), though.

I'm not 100% sure on whether you can apply that to an Ethergaunt (Aberration), though.It does. ...is an acquired template that can be added to any corporeal creature that is not a construct, undead, or an elemental.Black Ethergaunt with Mineral Warrior would be quite nice without the +5 LA. :mage:
