| Kelynmor08-17-06, 06:28 PM | A buddy of mine and I are going to play a "solo" campaign consisting of random dungeons and throwing in some cheesy storyline for flavor (think "Diablo"). He's DM'ing and has told me to make up a group of 3 gestalt characters. The "hero" will start at lvl 4 while the other two will start at lvl 3. Any books can be used except for ToB (at least until I get a copy). My ideas to start are as follows: 1.) Spellcaster ("Hero") xxx 20//wiz 5/incantrix 10/archmage 5 2.) Melee Soulborn 20//Soulknife 5/Incarnum Blade 5/Kensai 10 (maybe a level of EWM for Uncanny Blow ability, or alternatively some DN 4/tomb-tainted soul combo for cheesy fast-healing) 3.) Trap-finder/Archer Scout 20//(some archer build, one of KSB's builds as a base) These are definitely not set in stone. This is just what I've come up with thus far, mostly for flavor. Basically I'm trying to cover all the bases since there isn't going to be any inter-party conflicts. :D Any suggestions/changes are welcome to help me optimize this team. Thanks! ~Kel |

| MindWandererB08-17-06, 07:45 PM | 1) Comboing gestalt with arcane magic effectively is hard. Others are better than I at making suggestions here. When you do get ToB, swordsage (especially the "monk-like" variant) is a fairly natural choice. 2) Soulborn is redundant when gestalted with melee classes. Go for Incarnate instead. Use some of the options for making a combat incarnate in "incarnate by the numbers," and you'll get what would ordinarily be pretty good, but with double the BAB.... I like the Law Incarnate/Necrocarnum user, myself. 3) Warlock/Scout has to be my personal favorite. Skirmish blasts. Might combo well with a Chaos Incarnate (heh) as well. There are lots of amazing rogue options in ToB, as well--a Shadow Hand adept gestalted with rogue could easily be the most disgustingly powerful rogue build ever. 4?) You have no divine caster... with Gestalt, there's really no reason not to have one. The melee character could easily be a cleric on one side, and some full-BAB, or close to full-BAB classes on the other. Or Incarnate, still pretty nasty with a cleric's BAB. I've always wanted to have a gestalt lawful incarnate/cleric character who used Necrocarnum but chanelled positive energy. Technically legal. |
| RD_Imperialist08-17-06, 08:30 PM | I love gestalt optimizing..... Arcane, good damage-dealer, tank, utility mage, can heal in downtime, highly versatile Wizard 2/Binder 1/Anima Mage 7/Master Transmogrifist 10//Wizard 5/Binder 12/Swashbuckler 3 Cloistered Cleric 20 (Kobold domain)/Fighter 20 Just plain SOLID. Psion 10/Illithid Slayer 10//Monk 20 (Kung fu genius) Interesting, more of a backup to the other two |
| nbhs27508-17-06, 08:53 PM | cleric 20//beguiler 20............i win fighter 20//psion 20 shadow caster5/ assassin 6/ arcane trickster 9//ranger 20 |
| Kelynmor08-17-06, 09:22 PM | Lots of good suggestions so far. I need to read a little more on Dragon Shamans to better understand the DS20//Barb10/FB10 build. Seems pretty cool though. I'm trying to stay away from a manifesting class, as I'm barely familiar with psionics and the DM isn't at all familiar with psionics. MindWandererB... 1) Comboing gestalt with arcane magic effectively is hard. Others are better than I at making suggestions here... I've found what you say to be true, hence why I've left half of my wizard blank. I was thinking Cleric//Wizard since I didn't have a healer, I'm still not certain yet. I'm really looking for half of him to be Incantrix, so we'll see what else I/others can come up with. I've also found this to be true, looking further into it. I am currently thinking maybe an Aasimar Incarnate//Paladin/Fighter... etc. Although, I'm going to look into the Law Incarnate/Necrocarnum option. I've been trying to figure something like this out that is feasible. We'll see. I thought about this at first, but I think I may try to eventually give him the ability to polymorph into an Arrow Demon. Kind of like Illidan from WC3, only not quite so melee oriented. Great suggestions so far. I'm definitely looking into these further. Thanks for the help thus far. ~Kel |
| Curunir08-17-06, 09:48 PM | Using the Battle Sorcerer variant from the Unearthed Arcana, what about this? Battle Sorcerer 5/Eldritch Knight 10/Gray Hand Enforcerer 5 //Wizard 15/Runesmith 5 Just as a starting point. You have to take the Militia feat for PgtF to meet the Eldritch Knight prereqs but it otherwise works. On the Wizard side, you might need to take levels in the Runesmith class from Races of Stone (you wanted to be a Dwarf anyway, right? Be a gold dwarf if your playing Realms) Also recommend Gray Hand Enforcer from City of Splendors. It rocks especially for this. What you have is a +18 BAB, 18 levels of sorcerer, 19 levels of Wizard, The ability to wear full armor and use martial weapons (Gloves of Storing are a good investment) . You can put all your most essential spells on your sorcerer list and anything else you think you might need goes in your spell book. Might be some kinks in that. I'm doing this off of the top of my head. |
| RD_Imperialist08-17-06, 09:48 PM | without manifesting, my 3rd character might wish to be archivist 18/spelldancer 2//Fighter 6/Barb 4/FB 10 Which is absolutely ridiculous. you persist all your buffs for free, and buff the others for free. |
| Luceryn08-17-06, 10:11 PM | I am currently making an incarnum gestalt char and found that you can just do some pretty sick things. Havent quite finished the build but at the moment its 20 Totemist// 3 incarnate/3 rogue/2 warshaper/ (and either 12 rogue or toss in master thrower) the power of this build is using double chakkra to bind the manticore belt and the heart of fire to your totem, now unless im using the rules wrong(probably am) you should be able to get 9 essenta into both 4 from levels 1 from feat 2 from increased totem and 1 from the incarnate class ability and 1 from the incarnum magic items that let you invest 1 more if that is possible you would get 9 attacks as a standard action that could deal 3d6(increasing the damage from feats/warshaper and totem avatar melds) + 1/2 str + 8d6 sneak attack +10 from indigo strike and 9d4 from heart of fire each you use your move action to bluff with improved feint so 20th level damage is: (3d6 + 8d6 + 9d4 + 10 + 1/2 str) x 9 all at highest BaB 639 +4.5 Str as average damage per round if sneak attack can be used Now im also assmuing that the totemist Totem bind would qualify you for the warshaper class cause I think growing displacer beast tentacles and such would qualify you as having a diffrent form. |
| Rhonin the Big08-17-06, 10:29 PM | You cannot gestalt 2 prestige classes together by RAW. And you might like my Gestalt Resource in my sig, there are plenty of gestalt combos in there and I need to update them a bit. Oh, and since you read my sig you implode! |
| Kelynmor08-17-06, 10:33 PM | Using the Battle Sorcerer variant from the Unearthed Arcana, what about this? Battle Sorcerer 5/Eldritch Knight 10/Gray Hand Enforcerer 5 //Wizard 15/Runesmith 5 This is a good idea, except that I'm not allowed PrC's simultaneous, as per the suggested rules. My current thought for my caster is: Artificer 20//Wiz 5/Incantrix 10/XXX (probably Archmage) 5. I'm thinking the Metamagic Spelltrigger ability would work well for wands and such that I could make myself, as well as giving me some UMD (and therefore healing) ability. Seems fairly solid to me. :D Further thoughts on my melee character is: Incarnate 20//Soulknife 5/Fighter 2/EWM 1/ Incarnum Blade 5/Kensai 7 I may just drop the soulknife bit alltogether. Looking at the versatility and mad amounts of damage potential (and a little healing) of Incarnate, it'd be nice to have a full-BAB side to compliment it. I'd like to stick to LN for the Incarnate Avatar (Law). Maybe even Incarnate 7/Necrocarnate 13//Fighter 20, or something. Still a work in progress... ~Kel P.S. Rhonin, I was looking for that thread earlier today. You need to PM Surreal and get him to add it to his list of useful CO links! |
| Rhonin the Big08-18-06, 12:07 PM | Your "wizificer" is good so far. As for your "Fightcarnate," full base attack with Law Incarnate is a little redundant unless you power attack/leap attack alot. If you want the "Fightcarnate" to be a dwarf, Good Incarnate20//cleric3/ranger3/deepwarden2/Hammer of Moradin8-10/fighter2-4 could really pimp-out defenses. At level 16 with Divine Shield (maxed out charisma) Stalward and Stone Warden abilities you would be unhittable! Bind Incarnate Avatar to your soul, planar chausible to your brow and a few others of your choice (right there thats +12AC!). Downside is you become MAD as all 9 hells, con for AC, strength for combat, cha for turn attempts and AC and wis for Incarnum Radiance (you can finally dump dex though!). |
| Necromas08-18-06, 12:41 PM | Duskblade 13/Enligthened Fist 7//Sorc 5/Incantrix 10/Archmage 5 is pure melee caster awesomeness. You get level 18 duskblade casting, 18 BAB, level 20 sorc casting, and the ability to channel ANY touch or ray spell into a full round attack. You also get tons of metamagic feats, cheaper metamagic, and archmage goodies. I suggest you take arcane preperation (so you can cast metamagic spells as standard action) and arcane thesis: some uber spell, for even cheaper metamagic. Get a reach weapon, and whirlwind attack some uber metmagiked high level ray spell into an entire horde of enemies. And then use the duskblade ability or a quickened thesis spell to cast another spell in the same round. In one round with 4 enemies within attacking range you end up with... 1. Melee attacks against all 4 enemies. 2. Cast an uber metamagiced ray spell 4 times (assuming all 4 enemies were hit) 3. Cast another spell via quicken spell or quick cast. I Suggest you use arcane thesis on a 6th level sorc spell. So you can cast it as a 7th level slot as a maximized spell, an 8th level slot as an empowered maximized spell, or a quickened spell, and a 9th level slot as a quickened maximized spell. |
| Tyco311008-18-06, 08:02 PM | your build is wrong, you cannot have 2 prestige classes at the same time under gesalt rules Some new Build Ideas ======================================== ======================================== ======================================== ================== Goliath Barbarian (Beserker Variant, Racial Sub Level 1)19 // Druid 9 / Primevil (Dire Ape) 1 / Druid 9 hehehe Fun |
| balefire4208-18-06, 09:24 PM | Druid 20//Wizard 5/Incantatrix 10/Archmage 5. Wizards don't wear armor. When you're wildshaped you don't wear armor. Uhmm, yeah, not too thrilling. Arcane builds are tough. Artificer 20//Wizard 5/Incantatrix 10/Archmage 5. Good synergy, flavorful, etc. Druid 20//Monk 20 (Vow of Poverty perhaps?). Gives new meaning to animal style kung fu. Cleric 20//Nasty Archer build. Cleric archer + regular archer = super duper archer! Swashbuckler 3/Full BAB 17//Rogue3/Ninja1/Spellthief1/Master Thrower 3/Tons of dips into sneak attack granting prestige classes. Full BAB + like 15d6 sneak attack sounds pretty nice. Especially when you can throw 20 shuriken per round that hit as touch attacks. Makes very little sense roleplaying wise. |
