| 16th Champion01-24-05, 07:16 PM | Hi all, sorry if someone posted a build like this. The boards are lagging so bad, I can't bare to do a search. Give this character a Greater Metamagic Rod of Quicken Spell and he can do damage as advertised. Give him other stuff, and watch the pawning continue. I didn't include an attrubute build, but try to get this guy a decent Charisma for Intimidate. Invoker 5/ Red Wizard 5/ Incantatrix 10 1 Invoker 1 Scribe Scroll, Tatoo Focus, Quicken Spell 2 Invoker 2 3 Invoker 3 Sudden Empower 4 Inkoker 4 5 Invoker 5 Sudden Empower 6 Inv 5 / Red Wizard 1 Leadership 7 Inv 5 / RW 2 8 Inv 5 / RW 3 9 Inv 5 / RW 4 Spell Penetration 10 Inv 5 / RW 5 Iron Will 11 Inv 5 / RW 5 / Inc 1 Twin Spell 12 Inv 5 / RW 5 / Inc 2 Greater Spell Penetration 13 Inv 5 / RW 5 / Inc 3 14 Inv 5 / RW 5 / Inc 4 15 Inv 5 / RW 5 / Inc 5 Craft Rod, Energy Admixture 16 Inv 5 / RW 5 / Inc 6 17 Inv 5 / RW 5 / Inc 7 18 Inv 5 / RW 5 / Inc 8 Feat 19 Inv 5 / RW 5 / Inc 9 20 Inv 5 / RW 5 / Inc 10 Use Leaderhsip to get some arcane spellcasters as followers. At level 5 Red Wizard, you can start performing circle magic. Get ranks in the intimidate skill (as RW), punk your followers into providing you with a large number of spell levels (cast flensing or something similar on one, and watch the others jump to obey!). Use these levels to maximize two meteorswarms. Use your Incantatrix ability to Twin and Energy Admix one of them, then cast True Strike and get your rod of quickening ready. Sudden Empower both upon casting. These two spells will do 1080 damage no savingtrow to the target as long as you make four ranged touch attacks (+20 to hit on the first :D ) The first spell does 144 after maximized, then 216 after empower, then 432 after admixing and finally 864 after twinning. The quickened spell deals another 216. Grand total: 1080 no saving throw. Of course, i forgot the 2d6 bludgeoning damage when meteorswarm hits. I call this the Astramenion build, after the character who first used it. The campaign he was in ended quickly because players w/ lower initiative modifiers wanted a turn in battle. :weep: |
| Funny Slaughter01-24-05, 07:21 PM | :bored: |
| carnivore01-24-05, 07:46 PM | you may get more responses like Funnys, as a build that requires so much should do that much damage. it is more interesting when you are able to show something that has not already been shown. for example: look here to see what a 9th lvl Artificer can do(you have to read a bit to find it). http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=287275&highlight=artificer :D |
| Interested201-24-05, 08:01 PM | The math is also wrong. Empower spell has you roll damage normally for the extra 50% damage if maximize is also applied. The extra 50% is not maximized. Thats a flat 900 damage, not 1080. And it's all fire damage, from 12 sources. Thats 75 damage per source. Add a ring of greater fire resistance, it's down to 540 damage. Or a ring of fire immunity, its down to 6d6 bludgeoning. And did I mention a Ring of Counterspells with Meteor Swarm cast into it? Or Improved Counterspell and Reactive Counterspell? |
| 16th Champion01-24-05, 08:15 PM | Well, :P So sorry. I surfed these forums a bit, and never saw anything like 48d6 damage no save at level 8. Regarding the ring of fire resistance: this is why i never deal fire dmaage once I've got Energy Substitution. Come on, now. Ring of coutnerspells, well... So at 900, this is mediocre damage? Or just not surprising given the build? I'll be able to find other builds on these forums that put this to shame (besides artificer)? I said above that I haven't done a comprehensive search for wizard builds. The lag I get on these forums is crazy. Any builds anyone suggest I look at? And is Funny always a punk like this? :weep: |
| carnivore01-24-05, 08:30 PM | a good place to start looking around is here: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=213480 from there you will find an amazing amount of work that has already been done. Funny was not being a "punk", he said nothing to put your build down. but one thing you will need is to be willing to get hear critics take your build apart with a fine toothed comb and uncover every error. if you have not checked the rules or forgot something then the mistake will be brought to your attention.....just accept it and move on. hope it helps :D |
| Zherog01-24-05, 09:32 PM | Is Invoker a class somewhere, or do you mean Evoker (as in, a wizard who specializes in evocation spells)? |
| 16th Champion01-24-05, 11:59 PM | Haha thanks all. I apologize for the not-so-nice comment about Funny. It's easy to get irked when someone calls you on a stupid post. Thanks for the link. And I did mean Evoker. They were called Invokers in 2e right? |
| LordArkan01-25-05, 12:20 AM | And I did mean Evoker. They were called Invokers in 2e right? Specialists of the Invocation/Evocation school were indeed called Invokers. I still like Alteration over Transmutation, though... |
| Cold Napalm01-25-05, 02:25 AM | Welcome the board where billions of damage build has been done...so don't get overly impressed with 1000ish hehe :) . Welcome to the only place for D&D where you can give a build and then say oh but it ONLY does 600 damage a round. |
| GrolubFranco01-25-05, 03:44 AM | OFF-TOPIC: Where is the search? Itīs disappeared! :( |
| Hawker01-25-05, 10:19 AM | Page 63: Incantatrix Prestige Class Please add the following sentence to the end of the Instant Metamagic class feature description: The incantatrix cannot use this ability if the metamagicked spell would normally use a spell slot of a higher level than she can cast. So you can't use Incantatrix to alter above 9th level....Therefore you can't add an metamagic feat outside of the circle magic stuff (max, empower, and heighten). Now if you had a rod of admixture, you can do double damage in one round. I suggest to think of the orb of (energy) spells or scorching ray with split ray, admixture, and twin then maximized and empowered. Lets say orb of acid 15d6 split ray: 30d6 (2 ranged attack rolls) rod of admixture: 60d6 (2 ranged attack rolls) twin spell: 120D6 (2 ranged attack rolls) Circle magic Max: 720 Circle Magic Empower: 720 + 120d6 x.5= 930 points |
| Hawker01-25-05, 10:22 AM | no Save for damage: Save for a secondary effect for the orb of (energy) spells Also, I think you are using 3.0 Incantatrix becuase in the 3.5 you have bonus metamagic 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th with improved metamagic at 10th also. |
| SearchingShaman01-26-05, 04:41 PM | The Orb spells reprinted in the Complete Arcane are not rays, therefore you may not use Split Ray on them. While they do take a ranged touch attack to hit, the spell lists them as orbs, so sorry Charlie. |
| PhaedrusXY01-26-05, 04:51 PM | The Orb spells reprinted in the Complete Arcane are not rays, therefore you may not use Split Ray on them. While they do take a ranged touch attack to hit, the spell lists them as orbs, so sorry Charlie.Even better then. You can apply Chain Spell to them. (maybe- I don't own the book. someone check :P ) |
| Caelic01-26-05, 05:47 PM | It's a pretty good damage total, though. I mean, the Blastificer's only up to a potential of 1152 damage at 9th level. ;) |
| Hawker01-27-05, 12:46 PM | from the earlier build of mine... 2nd Scorching Ray 12d6 3rd Spilt Ray 24d6 4th Empowered 36d6 4th Rod of Admixture 72d6 7th twin spell 144d6 9th chain spell 144d6 + 20*(72d6) Average damage 5544 With 5 levels in Warmage from Age of Mortals it becomes 144d6+144*3+ 20*(72d6+72*3)= 10296 no optional rules... if you use dragon mag. and flaws...there here is some more... http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=341798&page=2&pp=30 I was just making a small point....and I was wrong about orb of (energy) spells... |
| Kingside_Bishop01-27-05, 01:47 PM | Someone should post that huge hulking hurler build that came up awhile ago... Wasn't that thing able to throw the Earth at you? Too bad search is down... it's really useful for this board in particular... |
| Qaetar01-27-05, 04:22 PM | The problem with the build is that you're using two ninth level spells and breaking rules for 1000 damage at level 20. On the other hand, at level 9, IIRC, an Artificer can spend 1000 gp or less to deal about the same amount of damage, albeit with more touch attacks. (Qaetar) |
| Caelic01-27-05, 04:38 PM | from the earlier build of mine... Err...Hawker...you DO know that metamagic feats reference the base spell, NOT the modified spell, right? |
| 16th Champion01-27-05, 04:39 PM | So where can one find the 3.5 Incantatrix? Are the modifications included in that 3.5 update FAQ? Also, never seen the artificer class. Where is this? And slightly off topic, where is the Nar Demon Binder? |
| carnivore01-27-05, 09:32 PM | So where can one find the 3.5 Incantatrix? Are the modifications included in that 3.5 update FAQ? Also, never seen the artificer class. Where is this? And slightly off topic, where is the Nar Demon Binder? 3.5 Incantatrix....Players guide to Faerun artificer.............Eberron Nar Demon Binder.....Unapprochable East :D |
| Hawker02-03-05, 04:38 PM | What are you talking about metamagic just alter the base spell? |
| happycows02-03-05, 05:34 PM | Is this all 3.5 rules? |
| DreadWizardDM02-03-05, 06:28 PM | Specialists of the Invocation/Evocation school were indeed called Invokers. I still call them Invokers |
| Hawker02-04-05, 10:12 AM | I reviewed the rules and I don't see anywhere that is says the multiple metamagic effects go just off the base except where it comes to maximize and empower. The only reason why that is because it deals with the random rolls... Twin spell all aspects are doubled but require two saves for each set. Empower all the dice pools are 1.5 higher. Spilt Ray each ray is spilt into two equal rays.... |
