| Klapperman10-21-03, 03:53 PM | Since this is my first post (although I'm a long time lurker), Howdy all. And now back to business  A player of mine has recently asked me to join his running Forgotten Realms campaign. Now he's a notorious power-gamer (Fellow DM's can be the worst  ) in our group, always looking to make his character to most effective, powerfull, best, broken , etc. Not that he's a bad roleplayer just a little bit power hungry. So my request is simple does anyone have a reasonably tweaked 10th level 3.0 Forgotten Realms character (All Wotc material except Savage Species and Psionics and all FR material) lying around? I'm not asking for a one-trick pony. It has to be normally playable, just a reasonably 'broken' character to teach him a little lesson ;)? The stats I rolled are: 18, 14, 14, 13, 13, 11 I was only given a short run down of the story so far and the rest of the party so this is out of the top of my head ... 9th level fighter/1st level dwarven defender (could be 8/2) 2nd level rogue/5th level wizard/2nd level Arcane Trickster (not sure about the rogue/wizard part) 2nd level druid/6th level ranger/3rd level Deepwood sniper (the druid part could be cleric) 7th level cleric/3rd level windwalker I appreciate any suggestions you can provide. |
| Matt Neuman10-21-03, 04:18 PM | 3.0 right? Monk 1/Druid 6/Shifter 3 Str 11, Dex 13, Con 14, Int 14, Wis 18, Cha 13 Take a close look at Girallon form, this should be your primary shtick. Girallon form grants you 4 attacks a round, plus rend with a 26 (IIRC) strength. Make good use of greater magic fang and handfire to crank that damage up. |
| ksbsnowowl10-21-03, 05:00 PM | Hmmm...FR 3.0? I've never actually played in FR, but I do use some of the material. Here is a 10th level archer that I wrote up a while back just to see what exactly could happen: Ranger 1/Fighter 4/Deepwood Sniper 2/Peerless Archer 3 Feats: PBS Rapid Shot Precise Shot Weapon Focus Weapon Spec Far Shot Quick Draw Manyshot Dex 20 Invisible (from your friendly mage) Wand of Hunter’s Mercy +2 Shocking Burst Comp Longbow (19-20 x4) Bracers of Archery @25 ft: +9 attack to confirm crit. (+5 dex, +1 WF, +1 PBS, +2 Bracers of Archery, -2 Manyshot) Dmg: 4d8 + 1d6 + 1d6 + 3d10 + 8 + 40 + 4 + 8 + 4 + 1d8 + 1d6 + 2 + 10 + 1 + 2 + 1 Total: 5d8 + 3d6 + 3d10 + 80 (15 + 50 + 5 + 10) Avg Dmg: 129.5 Max Dmg: 168 Min Dmg: 91 Other potential damage sources not yet added: Magic Arrows (+2) x4 +1 = +8 +2 Mty Comp Str Bonus (+4) = +16 +4 Favored Enemy (+1) = +4 Total: +34 Overall Total Avg: 163.5 OT Max Dmg: 202 OT Min Dmg: 125 Also, you could use an oathbow to pump the critical multiplier higher. You could add a level of Paladin, giving you access to use a wand of bless weapon. Bless Weapon + Hunter's Mercy = Automatic Critical (auto hit and threaten from HM, auto crit on any crit threat against evil foes from BW) And to forestall arguments about low-level rangers and paladins using wands:3.0 DMG, pg. 175 Spell Trigger: Spell trigger activation is similar to spell completion, but it’s even simpler. No gestures or spell finishing is needed, just a special knowledge of spellcasting that an appropriate character would know, and a single word that must be spoken. Anyone with a spell on his or her spell list knows how to use a spell trigger item that stores that spell. (This is the case even for a character who can’t actually cast spells, such as a 3rd-level paladin.) The user must still determine what spell is stored in the item before she can activate it. Activating a spell trigger item is a standard action and does not provoke attacks of opportunity. EDIT: fixed a few minor spelling mistakes |
| goblinhero10-21-03, 07:33 PM | A player of mine has recently asked me to join his running Forgotten Realms campaign ..... (All Wotc material except Savage Species and Psionics and all FR material) that DM wants to run a campaign in FR but isn't allowing FR material to be used? that seems kind of cracked to me. |
| Klapperman10-22-03, 02:41 AM | Whoops I meant all FR Books COULD be used... Only no psionics and no Savage species... Btw... the archer looks yummy... Although a shifter does have a certain appeal... after reading the shifter FAQ and Bible :D |

Although a shifter does have a certain appeal... after reading the shifter FAQ and Bible :D Dm'ing a party with a shifter.. it is quite a pain as he does insane amounts of damage against certain opponents and none against others... for instance, a hydra looses 4 heads/round vs 10 level char with shifter... but... the problem is that against a CR12 dragon he nearly can't hit it at all, never rending etc etc, doing nearly no damage... Not that the other characters were doing much damage... the problem is any monster with low ac = dead vs shifter |
| Funny Slaughter10-22-03, 08:15 AM | its in no way broken, but seems to be a good addition to your partys setup: take a look at my actual build here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=118232) since savage species is out just skip the feral-template, its main use is utility and upping the point-buy anyway. the build is optimized towards surviving the temple of elemental evil, but should be kind of generic. stat distribution: cha 18 con 14 str 14 dex 13 wis 13 int 11 you should change some minor things due to the loss of feral: take EWP: blunt chain to get a weapon you can trip with. skip windwalker if you dont want to play a PrC that somebody else already has or if you dont like to fight with a chain when a greatsword is required for the PrC. gs Funny |
| Lorimo the Disbeliever10-22-03, 11:16 AM | Wizard5/Fatespinner1/RedWizard4. GSF for your most beloved school (my is Transmutation), Tatoo focus, Spellcasting Prodigy and high Int = DC > 30 (i've got 36 - 38) PolyOther, Phantasmal Killer, Hold Monster... And clever wizard is NEVER a one-trick pony. TrueStrike-Enervation combo, Imp Invis, Fly... dozens of good spells. |
