I need some help creating a level 11 character. I don't even know where to start. I was considering Rogue at first, but then I thought about playing something I'd never done before, like a Monk or an Artificer.

Well, I was pointed to this board as a solution to my problems. I need you guys to propose some 11th level builds. 34 point buy system, 66k gold, and no limit on item purchases in relation to max gold.

Any help is appreciated.

You must specify what kind of character you want to play.
Or do you want us to choose one for you?

What do you party memebers look like right now? We could definately look for weaknesses and offer a build that would compliment their current set ups.

What do books you have availible? What's your DM's tolerance for stinky cheese?

Off the top of my head, Level 11 Commoner with Skill Focus(Basketweaving)

Unsubtle jabs aside, it really would be nice if you had some idea of what you want to play, or at least what books you have and your level of experience with D&D.
As it stands I can only reccomend that you look at the Character Build Thread and any other threads which catch your eye. I'm sure you'll get some good ideas.

If you're not sure, one way to come to a decision is let it be made for you by your group. If your friends decide they all want to play spellcasters, you might cant to play the Tank with Trapfinding (splash a level of Rogue with a tank build). If there's no Cleric, then play the healer.

In the party, there are the following characters (This isn't a terribly recent list, but the new characters are pretty much the same builds):

1) Ranger/Cleric/Windwalker
2) Wizard/Divine Oracle/Elf Paragon/Master of Yuirwood
3) Fighter/Dwarven Defender
4) Fighter/Paladin/Griffonrider
5) Rogue/Shadowdancer

So, I have a wide number of options available to me. I want to play something unique, and as such the typical tank builds don't really appeal to me. I've never been too terribly good at playing Rogues and their related classes (But we thankfully have that role filled). Same case with arcane spellcasters: I just get too itchy for combat. Some of my previous characters have been barbarians and druids, although my druids never got high enough in level to be effective. But, seeing as how this time we start at level 11, I may just go the Druid/Shifter Path, as I'm not too attached to casting spells.

Oh, and regarding the source books - I can draw from any. I only have the core books and Eberron, but I believe the Open Gaming License allows for people to send me typed excerpts from the other books, or something of the like. Just, if you post a build that has something that's not in one of those books, give me a short description of it.

Oh, and my DM is pretty laid-back when it comes to metagaming. So, feel free to optimize the Hell out of this.

There's always a paladin4/fighter1/pioustemplar4/divinecrusader1/hospitaler 10

19 BA is good with lay on hands, some minor spells, and one domain full of spells (trickery or magic or healing or war or strength). Healing isn't bad - nothing flashy really.

level 11 you'll have quite a few feats and be a pretty good mounted combat person.

If that's not your style you could go psionic warrior 8 / the mind's eye prestige class 10 / fighter 2

artificier 11 isn't bad.

Wizard types aren't bad.

fighter2 / sorcerer 8 / eldritch knight 10 isn't bad. I mean at level 11 you're a little behind but you'll be catching up around level 14.

Well, everything's covered. Why not play a Bard (or a Bard build, anyway)? I'm a fan of straight (one class) builds, and I don't think the Bard sucks, especially in a somewhat larger party with all the positions filled.

Edit: If you go with a gish, Paladin 2/Sorcerer 6/Spellsword 3/Eldritch Knight 9 isn't bad. You lose 9th level spells, though.

If you want 9th level spells, better off going Fighter 1/Sorcerer 6/Spellsword 1/Eldritch Knight X, with something to finish that gives you full spell progression (but not more Sorc levels, they are pretty dead).

Edit2: Also, if you want something different, you can jump into the SRD (http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35) and play around with Psionics.

Or you could just play a Druid.Best all around combat class imho: excellent melee capability, very good spell damage (at FR its actually better than a non-damage optimized caster, see Rashemi Elemental Summoning),some healing capability, very good sensory abilities (the best Spot,Listen i've ever seen came from Druids) and offcourse animal companion+spontaneous summon nature's ally spells make for a very good adition at the battlefield. They are not very good at social interraction though.

If you are interested in a non-conventional tank:

Human Monk 1/Werebear Template & 6HD/Warshaper 1

This guy is pretty powerful at level 11: DR 10/silver, amazing strength, decent AC for a monk. And you can always unrelease a plague of Lawful Goodness upon the unsuspecting world by biting evildoers :)

This 12 level Bard/druid/rogue/Fochlucan lyrist seems interesting

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20050107a&page=2

You can drop the rogue levels and one of Fochlucan Lyrist to take 2 of the Artificer...I don't think Fochlucan levels can stack with artificer, but anyway it would be really helpful to have those infusions.

A more strong build can be a Bard/Druid/Sorceror/Fochlucan lyrist whose +1 arcane leves stack with sorceror. To give it a more exotic flavor you can check the Wu Jen that could replace the Sorceror in this build.

I may just go the Druid/Shifter Path, as I'm not too attached to casting spells.Bbn 1/Drd 5/Master of Many Forms 5. You can wildshape into some good quasi-humanoid forms (troll, ogre, hill giant) that let you use your equipment and do big-time damage. The fun keeps coming -- in 2-3 levels, you can take the forms of War Troll, Sun Giant, Firbolg, and other nifty melee mashers.

If you get "itchy for combat," I guarantee you will be happy with this build.

Hey edwardsobel: crapping on someone else's thread is not going to make you any friends or get you any more help.

The party needs another cleric type.

Go Cleric/Radiant Servant of Pelor

any kind of chamelon build would be cool

i'm fond of race human, rogue 2/fighter 2/cleric 1(if ebberon setting use traveler diety)/chamelon 10/pious templar 1/dervish 4 of course finishing with straight pious templar or pious templar 4/dervish 1 isn't bad either

feats needed
combat expertise, dodge, mobility, weapon focus(scimitar) true beliver

additional suggested feats are
extend spell
persistant spell
divine metamagic
extra turning

You said Druid/Shifter. Does that mean that you can use 3.0e classes which have been 'replaced'?

If you do want to be a Shifter, a nice build is Dream dwarf Druid 5/Shifter 1/Warshaper [CW] 3/Deepwarden [RoS] 2. Buy a Wildshape amulet [MoF], and when you level up just increase Shifter. Of course, it is always possible to delay both Deepwarden and Warshaper to get more Shifter levels faster.

For feats the only thing you should definitely take is Dragon wildshape [Drc]. That and Improved unarmed strike if you don't go for a monk's belt (collar) + Wilding clasp.

If you want to play a more 'unique' tank, you could play a Kalareem Nerra (they're mirror-people, from Fiend Folio, 3 HD + 3 LA) Ranger 2/Stalker of Kharash [BoED] 2/Foehunter [MotW] 1. As you level, bump Foehunter up to 4. Then you're basically free to do whatever.

I don't really want to sound bad or be considered a flamer but there is no other way that to pose this thought.

every time i have asked for help with optimizing a character concept i got 1 of three responses:

1) "what are we your personal character creators go figure it out yourself" (this is a an actual response i got once)

2) there is already something done go look here: (address of some thread) end of thread.

3) no response for several days then a quick one line of a build that was basically nothing that I was looking for. (this occured once and the only suggestion i got that matched what i was looking for help for was the ability to cast spells beyond that there was no match the reponse was basicly 'here do this and shut up"

so since this is my only experience when i ask for help on these boeard you may choose which reponse you should get from me!

BTW: I am reponding to others as I usually get reponded to, the more polite i become the less the reponse i get!

If anyone would like to actually help me with the build(s) I was looking for without being cynical then I will listen and converse with.

<SNIP>...You've made three threads on these boards. One was misposted, but you got the help you needed anyway. Another ended with what sounded like satisfaction (with your archer). Your Drow thread you let just sit there after one response. Give feedback, and you'll get it.

Edit: Also, good thread titles help. Be creative. Market! ;)

:DThese builds aren't realy legal, as you need Evasion for Fochlucan Lyrist, that's where the 2 levels of rogue are for. Secondly the OP doesn't seem to be realy interested in rogue/caster, but more a melee oriented guy.

To the OP I want to say that the OGL does not give you the right to post/copy just anything. It only gives you the right to the SRD, like found here:
http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/home.html

Thirdly, the Shifter has been replaced with the Master of Many Forms in Complete Adventurer. They have made some mistakes that will probably be corrected in the errata. MoMF and Druid levels should stack for determing wildshape duration and HD. There are posts confirming that this will be in the errata on this board, but search is down (is is I didn't even check?).

Going Druid5/Master of Many Forms10/Warshaper5 would get you the character you want I think. You might also want to consider Druid5/Master of Many Forms7/Warshaper5/Nature's Warrior 3

I like this character. He's a fun 11th level-er:

Derro race - MM3. No level adjustment if insane. 3 monster HD.
+6 wisdom
-6 charisma
+3 dex
+2 con

They use their Cha modifier for Will saves instead of their Wis modifier. They get 1d6 sneak attack, poison use.

Then take Bard 5/Evangelist 3 if your DM makes you take the three Monster HD, and take Bard4/ Paladin2/ Evangelist 5 if your DM lets you forego the Monster HD.

You get an ass-kicking Charisma skill, great saves thanks to your Paladin/Derro synergy. Some decent stats. And the Fire Sheild ability which affect ALL of your allies, and deals divine damage instead of fire damage.

Ass. Kicking. I love evangelists.

Insane Derro have no LA. Not an LA of +0. No LA. They aren't playable as PCs.

And Derro have ability adjustments of D+4/C+2/W-4/Ch+6, or if sane W+2/Ch+0.

Thanks for the update on the Master of Many Forms. I'm going to borrow the Complete Adventurer from a friend to check it out.

Thanks also for all of the suggestions, guys. Now, I have another request. What kinds of items would you suggest for a shifting Druid such as myself? Like I said before, 66k gold.

Thanks in advance. I really do appreciate all of the help you guys give me.

That's what I was talking about - posting an excerpt from the SRD. I didn't actually expect anybody to post specific pages from scans of the actual books, which I in no way support.

I think I misread what you said... Just disregard anything I've said so far about the SRD and sending me stuff.

BAH! THat ducks. No insane Derro characters. Come ON!!!

Dang.

Still. Be an Evangelist. With 6 other party members... AWESOME. And besides which, by judiciously taking a race with a high CHA, and a template that increases the DC of your abilities, you basically have a super-powered CHARM, and FIRE SHIELD power.

Boo-YAH!!!

04-01-05, 09:14 PM
I don't know, it just doesn't seem like the class for me. If you have the time, could you type up a sample build so I can get an idea as to how you think it would work out. If not, that's cool, because I'm getting pretty attached to the Master of Many Forms PrC.

Well, MoMF is an awesome form. It's the build for the character who wants to be on the front lines.

The Evangelist is kind of a dedicated support vehicle - only with a real crapload of support to give. You need a big party (which you have), and then you can just stand back, hit everyone with a fire shield, then spend your time trying to "convert the unfaithful" with your fiery rhetoric.

You don't have a lot of combat potential. Well. None in fact. But what you DO have is the butt-kicking ability to temporarily convert anyone and every one to doing your bidding, and BEING your ALIGNMENT. EVEN YOUR OWN PARTY MEMEBERS. IF that stupid rogue/Shadowdancer is stealing from you, no sweat. You can MAKE HIM CHAOTIC GOOD!!!!! MWAHAHAHA!!! It's the TYRANNY of the CHURCH.

Man. Fun Character concept. I'm really unhappy the crazy Derro isn't allowed.

What's a good high CHA race, everyone?
