| SmiloDan01-23-05, 09:00 PM | OK, for this build to work, there needs to be a feat that grants a character the ability to cast a specific 0-level spell: Mage Hand. Does such a feat exist? I thought I saw a feat in the Complete Arcane, but I don't own it, so I'm not sure. Anyways: Rogue 5/Assassin 5/Arcane Trickster 10. 3d6+3d6+5d6 Sneak Attack. One question I have about this build is: What spells does an Assassin get for levels 11-15? |
| SpiritGlyph01-23-05, 09:34 PM | Assassins don't get any spells after 10th level, I'm afraid. Arcane Trickster will add to your caster level, but you're not anything above level 4 spells. |
| SmiloDan01-23-05, 09:40 PM | Yeah. Maybe it would be better to be a 10d6 sneak attacker with the following build: Sorcerer 1/Rogue 5/Assassin 5/Arcane Trickster 9. 5th level spells, and specializing in Rays of Frost of DOOM! 1d3+10d6. :P |
| Snicker-Snack01-23-05, 10:02 PM | OK, for this build to work, there needs to be a feat that grants a character the ability to cast a specific 0-level spell: Mage Hand. Does such a feat exist? Yes, it's the Magical Training Regional Feat, from PGtF. |
| Snow Savant01-23-05, 10:09 PM | SmiloDan, Just curious ... I'd like to hear why you think this build is strong. Thematically, I can surmise why you dig the concept (because it is cool). It also would be helpful if you tell us what roles he is to play in your party. And the level he is starting at. XO, Snow :cloud9: |
| The Lone Drow01-23-05, 10:38 PM | SmiloDan, I have to agree with Snow Savant on the power of your build. I like the concept, and maybe we can use the same concept to a grander advantage power-wise: How about a Rogue 1/Wiz 5/Daggerspell Mage 10/Arcane Trickster 4 Since the base attack bonus of your build is the last thing you seem to be worried about, this build will net you a horrible BAB, but no worst than the one you currently have, and a caster level worthy of a 'real' spellcaster. BAB 11 CL 18 SA 6d6 A good character concept with a great overall character. You can't be evil though. :) ps: Daggerspell Mage is from the Complete Adventurer. |
| runestar01-23-05, 11:05 PM | Is there a ruling that states whether the spellcasting bonus from arcane trickster can be applied to a class which did not grant 3rd lv spells? If so, then a dip for wiz/sor1 is legitimate, else you have go go sor6 or wiz5 the good old fashioned way. |
| paradoxmage01-24-05, 12:06 AM | OK, for this build to work, there needs to be a feat that grants a character the ability to cast a specific 0-level spell: Mage Hand. Does such a feat exist? Yes, it's the Magical Training Regional Feat, from PGtF. If you want a non regional feat, there is the Spell Hand feat from Complete Arcane. |
| Caelic01-24-05, 08:03 AM | I'm rather fond of: Rog3/Warlock6/Telflammar Shadowlord 5/AT6. Not as much sneak attack, but lots and lots of other goodies. Of course, if you want truly monstrous amounts of sneak attack for a caster, try talking your DM into allowing the generic classes from Unearthed Arcana. |
| RadicalTaoist01-24-05, 08:37 AM | Hey, can you qualify for a PrC caster level requirement by taking the Practiced Spellcaster feat? I thought of a wicked combo using Daggerspell Mage and Arcane Trickster that you could cast Nightstalker's Transfromation on top of (Contingency Nightstalker's Tranformation to go off when you cast Tenser's Transformation). It's official, casters can make better rogues than rogues now. |
| discipleofevil01-24-05, 08:49 AM | caelic: where is the shadow lord PrC? and what is AT? and where is it |
| beestje01-24-05, 09:08 AM | Hi discipleofevil, Telflammer shadowlord is in Unapproachable East (page 36) AT=Arcane Trickster can be found in the Dungeon Master Guide (DMG) grts B |
| GrolubFranco01-24-05, 09:12 AM | BAB is almost irrelevant in this kind of builds because most of the times youŽll be hitting touch attacks. |
| SmiloDan01-24-05, 11:20 AM | This would most likely be an NPC in a game I run. I think Spell Hand is the feat I was thinking of. Unfortunately, my PCs have succumbed to the dark side, so I actually need to come up with a bunch of interesting GOOD NPCs to thwart their plans. Oh, well. That's more of a problem for the DM boards. But thanks for the cool builds. |

But thanks for the cool builds. So my build works even better now. Make him an illumian and trade a spell slot for sneak attack damage. Meaning you can make sneak attacks of 15d6 at level 20. :D |
| SmiloDan01-24-05, 02:15 PM | WHAT??? How do you trade a spell slot for Sneak Attack? Is that one of those funky Illumian racial feat thingies? I don't use them in my campaign, but I could... |
| RadicalTaoist01-24-05, 04:08 PM | Rog1/Wiz5/Daggerspell Mage3/Arcane Trickster 10/Invisible Blade 1 is one possibility, though not necessarily in that order, and it's set up perfect for epic too with DM and IB goodies waiting (what's the errata'ed prereq feats for Invisible Blade?). If you don't want 9th level spells and you like spell versatility, look into Sorc 2/Rog3/Daggerspell Mage3/Arcane Trickster 10/XXX 2, use Practiced Spellcaster to qualify for Daggerspell Mage by level 5, XXX can be gishier prestige classes like Dragonslayer and Spellsword, or maybe Sacred Exorcist. With either case, at char level 15 you can set Contingency to set off Nightstalker's Transformation when you cast Tenser's Transformation. Turn into a Rogue/Ranger from Hell with Fighter hp, +11d6 SA at level 20, wicked AC and perfect BAB. I like. |
