| BeerMan500005-16-06, 12:51 AM | Alright, I'm at a quandry about what gear, feats, and arcane spell selection to pick out for this guy. I'd appreciate suggestions. This is an Evil NPC wizard which is going to be the arch-villain of my players. Please take a look see and give any suggestions that you might have. Thanks alot! http://www.sylnae.net/3eprofiler/view.php?id=19780 |
| anton106605-16-06, 03:53 AM | With 54 hit poinst i wouldnt send him against anything. MT is a pretty weak class, i am sad to say. If you do use him make sure all his buffs are up and he has alot of Mooks with him. I would send him against a group of 4 10-12 level PCs |

You could even pull off something like: Wizard 2 (with precocious apprentice)/ Archivist 3/ Mystic Theurge 10 Then you have 6 level wizard spells and 7th level divine spells, as opposed to 6th level spells for both your way. Also going with achivist means you can move that 16 that's in wis over to con to gain some more hp. If you want the domains you could use arcane disciple to get whatever domains you want. Otherwise here is a different idea for a higher level evil villian that you can use later on: Bard 7/ Mindbender 1/ Ur-priest 2/ Sublime Chord 2/ Mystic Theurge 8 That's 9th level arcane spells, 9th level divine spells, Turn undead, telepathy, and some bardic abilities, pick up battle caster so you could wear mithal fullplate and then you would be set. |
| Kresalak05-16-06, 07:30 AM | Archivist is one of those double casters; it requires at least 19 Wisdom. I believe spell slots are Int based, while save DCs are Wisdom based. Also, Precocious Apprentice doesn't enable you access to Mystic Theurge; it can get you into a PrC that advances arcane spellcasting and something that's not spellcasting (Cerebremancer, Noctumancer), but not Mystic Theurge. Ur-Priest is definatly the way to go with a Mystic Theurge. Wizard 5/Mindbender 1/Ur-Priest 2/Mystic Theurge 8/Arcane PrC 4 is a good way to go, with 18th level wizard casting and 10th level Ur-Priest casting, and a Cl of 19 for Ur-Priest. |
| Belldandy05-16-06, 07:38 AM | Hit points are low? As it doesn't LOOK like you need to go wizard first, go cleric for 8 starting hp. Then aother 14 levels gives 14-64hp. Con currently gives +30 so starting with a cleric gives you a min hp of 52? Meaning you must have rolled one hell o a load of 1's? And lets face it. 16k for 30 hp is cheap as chips! Especially as it would be more than 50% of what you have now! Start with that boost! I mean going wizard and average gives 4wiz start+5wiz+13cleric+22myth+30 con = 74 Did you forget the con bonus? You have a much lower than average rolled hp character?! Myth are alright when you have the time for all the spells, but there are reasons there aren't many players wondering around with the class. Give us more info, what is the group at the moment and what level do you want them to fight him (as in finanlly, what would he be in teh last peak battle!?) then we can work backwards! ----- Or an evil druid, able to out spell the casters, out fight the fighters and... blindsense or the like to make the rogues useless. :) Druid enemies... hmm I like that idea. |
| _J_05-16-06, 08:21 AM | Archivist is one of those double casters; it requires at least 19 Wisdom. I believe spell slots are Int based, while save DCs are Wisdom based. Wisdom only determines Archivist's bonus spells. And as they have more normal slots than other class, it's not a big deal. To learn, prepare, or cast a spell, an archivist must have an Intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against an archivist's spell is 10 + the spell level + the archivist's Int modifier. [...] In addition, he receives bonus spells per day if he has a high Wisdom score (see Table 1-1 on page 8 of the Player's Handbook). |
| gorfnad the shiznit05-16-06, 09:36 AM | Also, Precocious Apprentice doesn't enable you access to Mystic Theurge; it can get you into a PrC that advances arcane spellcasting and something that's not spellcasting (Cerebremancer, Noctumancer), but not Mystic Theurge. Precocious Apprentice Type: General Source: Complete Arcane Your master has shown you the basics of a spell beyond the normal limits of your experience and training. Prerequisite: Spellcasting ability (Int or Cha) 15, arcane caster level 1st. Benefit: Choose one 2nd-level spell from a school of magic you have access to. You gain an extra 2nd-level spell slot that must be used initially to cast only the chosen spell. Until your level is high enough to allow you to cast 2nd-level spells, you must succeed on a DC 8 caster level check to successfully cast this spell; if you fail, the spell is miscast to no effect. Your caster level with the chosen spell is your normal caster level, even if this level is insufficient to cast the spell under normal circumstances. When you become able to cast 2nd-level spells, you lose the benefit described above but retain the extra 2nd-level spell slot, which you can use to prepare or spontaneously cast a spell of 2nd level or lower as you normally would. Finally, you gain a +2 bonus on all Spellcraft checks. Special: You can take this feat only as a 1st level character. Precocious Apprentice allows you to cast one 2nd level spell once a day by granting one 2nd level spell slot, so it technically meets the 2nd level arcane spell requirement of msytic theurge. |
| Senevri05-16-06, 10:29 AM | Nitpick: Spells: Able to cast 2nd-level divine spells and 2nd-level arcane spells.. Now, if you _knew_ another 2nd level spell... I guess if you spend a feat on Extra Spell... if that didn't have a clause like, "One level below the highest level" or somesuch. |
| temillion05-16-06, 11:20 AM | Looking at the item selection, I'm all for dumping the Robe of the Arch Magi. Sure it looks cool, but for that must GP there's quite a few things you could use instead. Though if you are going for the first impression, the Crimson Coat of Ilpharzz might be an option, provided you can get it changed over to a robe instead of armor. It's a +4 leather armor and 3 times per day the wearer can summon magical flames covering himself. The flames give light as a torch, grant a +4 deflection AC bonus, grant a 15 fire resistance, and anyone who strikes you takes 1d4 fire damage. It only lasts 10 rounds a time, but for simple coolness factor I can't think of much better. 28,300 from complete arcane. Not only that, but it frees up gp for other items to keep you alive. With your HP so low you might want to invest in something that can help your con score. |
| Kresalak05-16-06, 11:50 AM | Precocious Apprentice allows you to cast one 2nd level spell once a day by granting one 2nd level spell slot, so it technically meets the 2nd level arcane spell requirement of msytic theurge. The problem is that once you can cast 2nd level spells (any spells, not just arcane) you lose the benefit of the feat. You gain a 2nd level divine spell slot at your 3rd level of cleric, which causes you to lose your 2nd level arcane spell, preventing access to Mystic Theurge. |
| Harliquinn05-16-06, 12:16 PM | Nitpick: . Now, if you _knew_ another 2nd level spell... I guess if you spend a feat on Extra Spell... if that didn't have a clause like, "One level below the highest level" or somesuch. I don't think the mention of "spells" in the prerequisite literally means more than 1. There are probably classes out there that only give a single spell at each level when you first get them, but they would still qualify for Mystic Theurge. |
| EldonG05-16-06, 12:16 PM | Honestly, what party is gonna fight him? I'm assuming they're 10th at least... 4 average 10th level characters will mop him up in a round unless he has advantages you aren't mentioning. I've seen 10th level melee types dole out more damage than his HP, hitting his AC, in 1 round alone, without a crit. |
