16d6 weapon damage at ECL 8 [Archive] - Wizards Community

While looking over the XPH, i noticed the wonderfully abusable Expansion. So, for the next build we need:

1 Half-ogre (or half-giant if you want to be 3.5)
Monkey grip
Exotic weapon proficiency [golden fullblade]
Not suprisingly, seven levels of psychic warrior

So, here is what you do: You take your Large half-ogre, give him (or her) a Huge-sized golden fullblade. Now you Expand him two size categories, which will give you a gargantuan half-ogre with a Colossal sword (btw, according to my calculations, this sword would be approximately 30 meters long).

Now, because the sword is golden, it's also heavy, and therefore it deals damage as if it were Colossal+.
And a Colossal+ fullblade deals 16d6 damage.
Oh, and you could easily get 12d6 at level one if you could afford to buy the sword.

Golden and platinum weapons (same effect on both) are found in Magic of Faerūn, page 179.

Other powers and feats to use with this are vampiric blade, psionic weapon and dissolving weapon. These just get you more d6's to throw. Also, don't forget a spellstoring weapon with scorching ray. With preparation, you could easily throw 30 or 40 dice for damage.

Ya gotta have Girallon's Blessing (SS) cast on your for extra arms! Also, hope to get wrathful healing on that fullblade.

While a fullblade boasts the greatest damaging power, why not switch to a spiked chain? It may "only" do 12d6 or so, but it will hit everything in a 50' or 60' radius! Now get either whirlwind attack or 10 War Hulk levels and take down entire armies! Wrathful Healing becomes even better when you can kill hundreds of foes in a single swing. Plus, with the huge reach on this thing, most spellcasters wont be able to use close-range spells on you.

Mercurial Greatsword?

A Colossal merc greatsword does 8d8, Heavy makes it 16d6, and it's got x4 crit (which is preferable to 19-20/x2). Not to mention that the physics of it are screwy. You can actually do more damage with an oversized war mace (CW), but it's got attack penalties.

Edit: Oh yes, and a Wilder can do this slightly earlier (ECL 5 with overchannel and wild surge, manifest the power out of your buddy the Psychic Warrior's mind, there are rules for this somewhere or other...)

hihihi Get that with Mage Slayer feat from MiniHB. Casters can't cast defensively when you threaten them.

The first is in Enemies and Allies, the second in the Expanded Psionic Handbook

If you're using Psychic Warriors from the XPH, might as well just manifest Vampiric Blade -- I dunno what Wrathful Healing does, but Vampiric Blade heals you of 1/2 your weapon's base damage, which in this case is 8d6 per hit (!!!).

PsiWars can get this power at 7th level. ;)

Wrathful Healing is like Vampiric Blade, but better. It's half of total damage, not just weapon damage.

Be sure to appropriately use weight and encumbrance accounting for when you wield a specialized weapon in this fasion.

You have to double the weight of your weapon for every size category it jumps up from size "Medium".

Hope you have a high STR !!

How are you guys getting your numbers?!? Check page 28 of the 3.5DMG, it has a new table for increasing weapon size and damage.

With the S&F errata, I think Fullblade does different damage, and isn't usable by medium creatures.

Warmace could get up to 12d6, however. 1d12->2d6(large)->4d6(Monkey Grip->8d6(Expansion twice)->12d6(heavy)

That was where I was off. I thought Heavy made the weapon do damage as if it were one size larger. Which it basically did in 3.0. In 3.5, the weapon damage based on size changed, so I'm not sure if the chart for heavy weapons would change.

But RAW, the warmace would be 8d8.

The problem comes in when you apply things in a different order, for a different weapon. Take a heavy scimitar, expanded twice to Huge size. Applying Heavy first, then the expansion, the damage is 3d6. Compare that to a Huge heavy scimitar, with size applied first and then Heavy, which gives a damage of 2d8.

Both the weapons are exactly the same size and composition, but they do different damage. Making heavy be equal to a 3.5 increase in size fixes the inconsistency.

Wrathful healing is from Enemies and Allies? Is that an official WOTC publication? Where in the book can I find it?
