| swanyusd11-10-05, 02:22 PM | Ok, so ive been digging around, and through a post either of mine or someone else's, I found a neat weapon in the Eberron campaign book called the talenta sharrash. It does 19-20/x4, its exotic. This is just incredible. Im curious, however, if there are any 18-20/x3 weapons avaible? I dont see why not, since exotic weapons usually have 1 more to a crit range or crit multiplier. Do any exist? |
| Aufenshauft11-10-05, 02:31 PM | From the Underdark book, FR. It is one handed, d6 dam, 18-19 with x3 damage also can switch between slashing and piercing. Really awesome with exotic master. |
| Quenditar11-10-05, 02:31 PM | I believe it was errata'ed to 19-20/x2. You'll never find an 18-20/x3 weapon without some serious (and seriously expensive) magical mojo going on. |
| NullAndVoid11-10-05, 02:33 PM | The Talenta Sharrash was errata'd to be 19-20/x2. See http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/er/20040125a. I'm not aware of any 19-20/x3 or 18-20/x3 weapons. As far as I know Wizards has stuck to 20/x4, 18-20/x2, 19-20/x2, or 20/x3. |
| fnord11-10-05, 03:12 PM | Talantar Sharash (or whatever the eberron weapon was called) was errata'd. If you don't mind cheese, though, a resin (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031014a) weapon could get 18-20/x4. |

Holy crap, he's right. Just looked and there they are. Never noticed that o_O. And there's no errata for Underdark as well. Also, they only do 1d4 damage if you're medium. But, as we know, most of one's damage does not come from weapon damage, so who cares? Oh, and they're 19-20 crit range, not 18-19 lol. I don't think that's possible ;). |
| MeleeMonster11-10-05, 04:24 PM | In one of the may 3.0 spalt books - I think Mercenaries - there were extra construction things similar to but actually in addition to masterwork one was called laminated steel it's details are below. Additional Cost damage Critical Multplier Effect Laminated Steel 900 +1 -/x+1 |

Additional Cost damage Critical Multplier Effect Laminated Steel 900 +1 -/x+1 I don't remember any "Mercanaries" splat-book. Laminated Steel's not in S&F; perhaps A&E? And no one cares about resin (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031014a)? |
| AlienFromBeyond11-10-05, 05:24 PM | It may have been 3.0, but I'm pretty sure it's not WotC. Yeah, I remember resin from Fiend Folio. Damn those Kaorti. From the way I read it, I thought it replaced everything so the weapon became a 20/x4 weapon, not just changing the multiplier to x4. It's been a while though, so I'm not sure. I'll have to dig up FF and check. |
| dog4511-10-05, 05:32 PM | Laminated, Serrated, etc are in AEG's Mercenaries. AEG - Your one stop shop for extraneous splat books. |
| MorandirNailo11-10-05, 05:34 PM | Mercenaries is an AEG book...tons of broken goodness from them, if such things are allowed in your game. As an example, using lots of third-party splatbooks, I was able to get a 2-10/x8 weapon (yeah, it got nerfed real quick...). Now, what exactly is this weapon from Underdark? (don't have that book.) I have a sneaky guy who'd be interested... Mor |
| AlienFromBeyond11-10-05, 05:41 PM | It's in the title of Aufenshauft's post. It's called the Flutter Blade. Also, it's a move-equivalent action to change damage types. Edit: On reading FF, I'm not sure you can make other Ribbon weapons. The Ribbon Dagger itself is listed as a new exotic weapon. On the other hand, if you can get a weapon made from it, go ahead. You get +2 to disarm, and it definitely only changes the multiplier, and that goes to x4. There's a price increase, but I didn't check what it was. Just compare a normal dagger to a ribbon dagger. |
| neilthrun11-10-05, 05:53 PM | No one has posted the Orc Shotput, 2d4 19-20/x3. If we take Disciple of Dispater and Master Thrower we can get that upto 13-20/x4. |

I know it's large size, so you can only throw 1 a round unless you get bigger. Plus, you need more, so it's more expensive. |

FF does not talk about other Ribbon weapons. However, the online article series, The Kaorti Ubercyst (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20030916x), with Ribbon long swords appearing in Guardians of Doom and Despair (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20030923a) and general rules appearing in Magic and Resin Items (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031014a). Not counting the difficulty of finding a Kaorti to make one, the extra cost for a ribbon weapon would by 2.5 x the cost of a masterwork weapon of the appropriate type (based on the xp cost quoted in the final article). |
| AlienFromBeyond11-10-05, 06:10 PM | Actually, it would be x3.5. x1 for the base cost, and then 2.5 from the xp cost. And I knew I had read that somewhere. Thanks for posting that link, the previous ones didn't work for me. |

| swanyusd11-10-05, 07:17 PM | Ok, so based on this, the cost for a masterwork full-blade with resin would be (100 base + 300mw)*2.5 = 1000gp? Is that correct? Or would it be 400*3.5 and then become 1400gp? I guess this matters because I like this cheese for what I had in mind anyway, and thats to get uber criticals. Here's what I had in mind: Pal 1 Ftr 4 Kensai 10 Other5? I need paly to get the skills for kensai. Its too bad, but I see no other way around this. Our DM is horrible about getting our items magicked up so to speak, and this kind of weapon is one in which I would want for the rest of my career. It goes without saying. I would choose as my feats, exotic fullblade(because you need xotic proficiency anyway with the resin), monkey grip(then use a fullblade 2 size categories bigger than what medium chars can use, I am large size remember... for 4d8 19-20/x4 crit). Then, take the feat powerful charge(from eberron, adds 2d6 dice), then with levels of kensai do this for weapon, +1, keen, flaming, shocking, acid, frost, +4... This gives me for dice to damage, at level 10 on a charge, 4d8 + 2d6 + 4d6 elemental... all times 4 on crit range of 17-20. Yes, I could go with a big big scimitar instead, for a wider crit range, but its less dice per crit, and frankly it seems kinda cool to have such insane amounts of dice with a crit (16d8 + 24d6 + 6xstrength... yay). Yes, I know about the frenzy berkerker and all that, but I choose Kensai because of the fact that our DM is terrible about getting us the weapons we really want, and kensai solves that problem. The other possibility there is getting a super huge scimitar(3d6 18-20/x4, and then do what I have said. Its a bit less dice per crit, but I would crit more often, for more "reliable" damage. I have to think about this one. Any suggestions? |
| swanyusd11-10-05, 07:19 PM | wow, I sorta confused that last post with another I have been running. See the following post for more details. Sorry, that must have been confusing as all heck. http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=533263&page=1&pp=30 Just so you guys know, I have all stats set up so I qualify for kensai now, including int13 for combat expertise. |
| MeleeMonster11-11-05, 02:25 PM | Don't think anybody posted this yet, but if so, shoot me. Disciple of Dispater threat ranges get ridiculous after a few levels. It's PrC from Book of Vile Darkness and it sucks except for theose abilities though if you are wanting a huge crit range that stacks with improved crit it is the way to go. |

It's PrC from Book of Vile Darkness and it sucks except for theose abilities though if you are wanting a huge crit range that stacks with improved crit it is the way to go. Let's see. DoDis, with a Flutter Blade (or whatever that weapon from Underdark is called): 13-20/x3, or a "Critical Quotient" (threat range times (critical multiplier-1); this times 5 is the percent your average damage is increased by criticals) of 16. With a Scythe, Scimitar, or Falchion, he can achieve a critical quotient of 12. Ribbon Scimitar or Falchion, with keen or Improved Critical, gives 15-20/x4, critical quotient of 15. So the DoDis has a slight edge when he uses a Flutter Blade, but requires a heavy level investment. If you can convince your DM that resin counts as metal (he'd be insane), DoDis with a Ribbon Scimitar or Falchion can get 9-20/x4! That's a critical quotient of 36, meaning he would be dealing almost twice as much damage from the bonus critical damage as from normal damage. |
