| Mecheye05-16-06, 09:43 PM | okay. simple question. i have my ideas, but i need to know what any of you think. 1st level for Living Greyhawk. 28 point buy. lookin at a marshall but i dont want to stay a marshall, i just want a few levels to get the good auras (the dexterity minor and AC major, maybe 1 or 2 more levels to get the Free Action or another good aura) before multiclassing into something better. problem is i dont know what to become/multiclass into. i'm lookin to be party support as much as possible, while still retaining some ability to fight, preferably from a distance (lookin at great crossbow). unless a better option can be made available. the party is random, obviously, so i need something well rounded and able to defend myself if need be. sounds simple, and it probably is. Human Babarian1/Marshal2/Bard3/Warchanter5 thats what i saw earlier on the boards, but i want to take marshall first without effecting the overall integrity of the build. any help is appreciated. |

I'd probably suggest using fighter for 2 levels to get some combat feats. Half elf makes a decent character, although a human might make you more effective. In terms of type of combat character, I'd suggest maybe a ranged fighter, using a bow, at least that way you could allocate a sufficent amount of stat points to do the character some justice. I'd suggest the following stat distribution. Str - 12 Dex - 14 Con - 14 Int - 10 Wis - 10 Cha - 15 |

| UMiskatonic05-16-06, 11:36 PM | Being support is a nice idea. However, I'm not sure Marshal has the mojo to really do that. I mean, a well-built 7th level bard is able to add +2 to hit, damage, and fear saves, grant you +30 feet of move, an additional attack, and +1 AC in just two rounds, and then can heal you after the fight. That's support, and that's what I'm expecting when I sit down with a player who describes themself as a support character. Marshal auras are good, but standing there and giving me a +3 to dex better not be all you got. I'm going to guess that you're looking for a melee-type, and not a spell-caster. I'd add Fighter levels for feats, and something to make use of your above-average charisma. Paladin, Bard, and Hexblade are all good choices. Archers are surprisingly easy to build. You really only need the three archery feats to start, and the classes you pick aren't too important. Try Marshal 1/Paladin2/Ftr2/Marshal 2+ until you find a prestige class you like. More later, I'm getting sleepy. |

It might be obvious, but you can't buy great crossbows unless you have access through an AR or meta-org. I don't have RS, where I believe they are from, but they could also be exotic weapons. If I'm not mistaken, they also take a full round action to reload. Bows are one option. Reach weapons are another. Even if you just use a light crossbow, you could take rapid reload and keep your strength lower, though that means less armor. |
| TheHumanDynamo05-17-06, 12:13 PM | Start as a Marshall, and take the Cha bonus to damage when charging minor aura. Then mutlticlass into paladin. Use a lance, ride your special mount (when available). Boost your Charisma as high as possible. Build will look something like this: Marshall 1: Mounted Combat, Ride By Attack Paladin 1 Paladin 2: Spirited Charge Paladin 3: Paladin 4: Paladin 5: Divine Might By blowing a turn attempt (I've never seen a paladin that actually uses them to try and turn undead anyways), you can add your Cha modifier to your damage (that's twice you have done this on a chargee now, once for the marshall aura, once for the divine might) and on a charge with your lance, you will do x3 damage. The damage just gets silly. For later feats ( I don't have PBH2,so all this info is not taking that into account) look for getting into Shock Trooper, Karmic Strike, etc. |

Cleric would be better than marshal as a support character. Human Cleric with Point Blank, Precise at 1 and Zen archery at 3. Bard is another great option for support. Personally I like the clerics brand of support a lot better then the bard because of LG and what seems like a general lack of clerics. |
| Mecheye05-17-06, 10:31 PM | okay, i'm likin what i see so far. main reason i wanted a level in Marshall was because of the + to initiative with that Dex aura. but some of these are looking a lot better than what that has to offer. thanks for the ideas so far! my game isnt until saturday so i have a few days yet. if you have anything else just throw it out. thanks again! |
