Ok, my dm just sprung this on me, were playing a gestalt game starting at 1st level with any classes and any races. Im wanting to play a manipulator/grifter type character. At the moment im thinking of a rogue/sorcerer for the skills and cha based spells...kinda suits the whole grifter idea, but im not sure if is the best combo, and i have no idea what im going to take as a race (a race with no LA) So if there is something better than that, id love to know.

Chiers.

Aracne Trickster would be right up that ally. Take AT on the Sorc side and then you can continue Rogue if you want, or some other class. If you took AT as soon as possible you'd end up getting the Sneak Attack from it on even levels and the SA from Rogue at odd levels. Might want to ask you DM if a trick like that would stack.

Depending on your Int and how much you want skills, Human might be a nice choice allround. Bonus feat and all aswell.

Changeling

(A) Swashbuckler3/Hexblade3/Rogue3/TelflammarShadowlord6/Mindbender5
(B) Warlock20

You never said how you wanted to manipulate people, so I just thought I'd offer mine.

Gestalt rules suggest ruling out dual-classes like arcane trickster, so it's probably a no-no.

Also, according to the gestalt rules, only the faster of the sneak attack progressions would count.

Warlock20//Bard20 would be an interesting build.

Sorc5/CandleCaster2/Loremaster10/Archmage3//Rogue20 would be an interesting build, too.

At 1st level, Rogue/Sorcerer certainly can shine. Max out Bluff and pick out some Illusion spells -- great combo for a Gnome! (If you're not a Gnome, be sure to take Spell Focus (Illusion).)

Origionally i meant that i wanted to manipulate people socially (eg, bluff, get them to give me money and their children and stuff like that......he is evil after all)

But the dm just threw out this "but no evil" rule....i hate when that happens...why cant the tell us these things *before* we make a character with a 3 page bio :( I dunno.

So now im thinking of maybe going a CN Air Genasi Rogue/Swashbuckler (its still gestalt) and kinda playing him as a pirate/vagabond...the fact that he doesnt need to breathe is quite helpfull here. Kind of a swift fighter who is still able to hold his own in a conversation (i dont want to be the dumb brute...again)

What about a Halfling?

Rogue 20 // Swashbuckler 3 / Fighter 2 / Invisible Blade 5 / Halfling Paragon 3 / Thief-Acrobat 5 / Exotic Weapon Master 2 (for Shuriken)

a pirate/vagabond
Maybe you should check out the scarlet corsair (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20050805b&page=1):
A rogue20/swashbuckler3/ranger6/fighter1/scarlet corsair10
It has full BaB, 13D6 SA, int to damage, loads of skills & is a bit of a dirty fighter. A captain jack sparrow of sorts.

I'd personally dual wield, hence the ranger (+favoured enemy on sea creatures). My personal preference is using 2 rapiers.

No evil does stink. :D

Ah well your DM probably got scared. Anyway a Rogue20/Swashbuckler20 sounds very potent. I mean d10 hit die, good fort and reflex, full BAB, sneak attack, evasion, free weapon finesse, int to damage, bonuses to that already high reflex save, potential str and con damage much later... The only thing I can see as a flaw would be the will save. Heck, you really only need to worry about dex and int with this build, so it's much easier to work with if you get bad stats.

The only idea that comes to me is trying to work in Tempest somewhere, but I'm not sure it's necessary. I do recommend two-weapon fighting, though. It'll make that full BAB and SA work overtime.

Well this is what i rolled, 18,16,8,12,10,11

So with a high int/cha....it doesnt seem like ill make that good a warrior. Perhaps i should try and convince my dm to let me go back to my manipulator idea.
