Hi everyone, I am just about to start out with a new 1st level Cleric and wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions on my build.

We're going to be starting off at 1st level, fresh off the boat in Freeport. We're going to have a human fighter with a spiked chain who will be trying to go the attack of opportunity and tripping route, around level 5 he'll be going into Paladin for flavour. The second character will be some type of wizard, and the last character will be a whisper gnome beguiler.

As for the Deities, we're going to be playing in the Forgotten Realms. Chosen Diety: Oghma has Luck and Travel and is Neutral

Special house rules:
One rule variation that we play with is that metamagic feats only count as half a feat. (You can take two metamagic feats instead of one new normal one.) In addition, we can use any book / magazine toward our build.

I want my cleric to be more focussed on spell casting.

Here is the current build that I am looking for suggestions on:

Str 15
Dex 14
Con 16
Int 13
Wis 18
Cha 18

Race: Human for the extra feat
Take 2 flaws: Vulnerable feat, along with inattentive - is this worth it?
Domains: Luck and Travel
Starting Feats:
D - extend spell
D - extra turning
1 - persistent spell
1 - divine metamagic (persistent)
H - quicken spell
H - divine metamagic (quicken)
I am not sure I should start off with Quicken and Persistent as they may not be much use at 1st level. Should I take Divine Metamagic like chain, maximize or reach to start. At first level it would be neat to stand back and ranged heal/chained? or maximized? I could take Persistent and Quicken later on?

I've heard of an item called a nightstick that increases turning attempts, where can you find this and does it stack?

Weapon - MorningStar

Any other thoughts?

Sorry I can't really help you, I never play clerics.
For the Nightstick, I think it's in Libris Mortis, and I don't know whether it stacks with your abilities.
Good Luck!

I'd ask for a re-roll. There's no way you can survive with those stats. Also, how can a spellcaster make it with metamagic feats costing 1/2 a feat. They should be 1/4 or even 1/10 of a feat. I'd get out now. Sounds like you've got a killer DM. He probably won't even adjust the EL's downward due to the decreased power level.

Nightsticks are in Libris Mortis, and it is...unclear whether multiple Nightsticks can be used for additional turn attempts. I, personally, would steer clear of that ambiguity and only rely on one. But if your DM says you can do it, then load up - Nightsticks are dirt cheap. I don't think I would take flaws, especially since metamagic feats are so cheap for you.

Does anyone have anymore comments on the suggested feats? I am thinking reach and maximize/chain/or twin may be better?

Well, Occular Spell could be a good choice. If your DM doesn't think that you can Persist Touch Spells, then Reach Spell is a good choice.
