Hi all. I'd like some help creating a necromancer, cuz it will be the 1st time I'll play one. We play in the Forgotten Realms, and we will be starting at 1st lvl.
I own all core books, FRCS,PGtF, Libris Mortis, MoF, Shining South, Silver Marches, Complete Arcane, and Complete Divine. I won't be able to buy books in the near future. I also have acess, through friends, to Oriental Adventures, Arms and Equipment Guide, Frostburn, and Enemies&Allies. Also, keep in mind I have a Paladin and a cleric of lathander in the party, so (though this should be in some kind of RP forum) I have to come up with a plausible reason for them not to smite me outright and even let me adventure with them.

Thx all in advance,

Hola,

I guess the first thing you need to do would be decide what kind of Necromancer you want to play. Do you want to control a lot of undead? Do you want to have abilities that mimic undead? Do you want to sling around powerful death magics? Wanna be Dr. Frankenstien? Wanna be a creepy death cult leader?

There are many many many concepts and ways to build characters that fall under the term Necromancer.

lol all(!).I mean, I like all of them, just give suggestions for all those themes and then I'll try to merge the biggest number I can of them. Keep in mind, though( and I forgot to ask that), that I am the arcane spellcaster of the party, and as such, i do not want to suck at the rest of the aspects of wizardry.

Thx in advance,

Would your DM let you take FRCS Shadow Adept insted of the 3.5 version in PGtF? If so, it really kicks ass.

At any rate, take Shadow Weave Magic as your 1st level feat to get +1 DC to all Necromancy, Illusion, and Enchantment spells.

I can't see a reason why not taking Incantatrix as well. It doesn't matter if you're a necromancer - just take some Libris Mortis feats and you're set... the Corpsecrafter chain is really cool, as are the Fell Metamagic feats.

I thought of incantatrix, but I think 1 more school to dropis too much.
And no, my DM wouldn't let me use 3.0 version of shadow adept.
anyways, here are the builds I could think of:

Necromancer3/Cleric3/True Necromancer14

Sorcerer6/Pale Master10/Archmage4 (With Undead Leadership to take advantage of high cha)

Should I use any of these, or other?

While I like the True Necromancer alot, you said you're going to be the primary arcane spellcaster for the group and don't want to be too weak at that. True Necro is a great class, but you will be quite a bit behind a pure wizard in terms of overall arcane power. Also, I think the best use of True Necro is to build a massive "army" of undead, and you're not really going to be able to get away with that traveling with a palladin and cleric of Lathandar I don't think. :P

If you're still considering True Necro, here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=5381919&postcount=13) is an NPC build I used a bit ago. I pieced it as what I thought was the best from a thread devoted to the PrC. I wound up not using the feat from Dragon Magazine, and instead taking Practiced Spellcaster: Wizard, or something (I can't remember, heh).

With the party you mentioned, I think instead of undead, I'd focus on using the Fell Metamagic feats, and yes I agree that Incantatrix would be best for doing that (or a cleric with Divine Metamagic). You don't have to specialize in Necromancy to be a "Necromancer", really. Just use lots of necromancy spells, take the Fell feats, and take Spell Focus and Greater Spell Focus: Necromancy. (and act creepy :D )
