| UnHolyShade11-01-05, 07:54 PM | I have a Con to go to in a few days, one of the events I am in is a quest to slay the big baddy Red Dragon (we know its a Great Wyrm Red). I am thinking about making a Dragonkin/rogue/DragonSTALKER (from Draconomicon) The ECL of the Dragonkin is 9 (7hd + 2 LA), + Rogue 1 (to get the skills required) +10 levels of DragonSTALKER. I have never actually used point buy method for something this 'big' and am wanting some pointers and such on a good build. Yes most munchkinized I admit. I am thinking high strengh and using a greatsword/axe (keen - Bane dragons) which will be large from dragonkin size. But i dont want any stats under 12 base (level 20 so money there for tomes and manuals of stat boost). With a dragonkin's flight 40/good i should be able to outanuever the dragon and stay in 'sneak attack'; mode most of the time, gaining 11d6 extra (rogue 1 +stalker 10) and with the dragon strike ability and a bane weapon i should have about +15d6 extra damage on many of the hits. Anyway any tips or build help would be apprecviated, i have till thursday PM to get ready. Thanks |

That of-course leaves you vulnerable to attack, unless you go with Dervish or similar A lot depends on your teammates as far as having a flanking buddy is concerned. Outmaneuvering him is of no use if your only flanking partners are land-based. Dragons may be less maneuverable but you can bet they've bought some flight-related feats to help them out, like wingover which would lead to your character being taken apart. Look into the Wraithstrike spell (Complete Adventurer). It may be your only reliable hope of hitting the dragon. Take rogue to 2. I think you'd find Evasion handy :) If you know you're going to be fighting dragons then a level of ranger for favoured enemy (dragons) wouldn't hurt. UMD lets you use scrolls of Shapechange/Wish if you really need to. He's fire subtype, which makes him vulnerable to cold damage. Add this to the fact that you have sneak attack and that sneak attack damage from a ranged-touch cold attack (like Cold Orb from CA) could mean significant damage. The dragon can really make the fight difficult for you, by being too far away is one way. His buffs would largely be the job of the party's PAC to remove, but take some UMDable items to give yourself a shot at it or buff the party in-case you find yourself without anything to do one round. Pump your will save. You may not be at risk from frightful presence but you don't want to be crippled when that dragon drops a MDJ. Dragons don't need items, you do.Hope that helps. |
