| vardock01-07-06, 12:01 PM | This is a follow up to my AC 66-78 character. After seeing reactions about the lack of offensive power and the "weakness" against natural 20's landed by power optimized warriors, I decided to make him even more defensive-minded, but sacrificing most ability to do any damage. Here is my new character. His combat ability is nearly non-existent, but with his AC, really high saves, immunities, spell resistance, and the fact that you need to make 3 saves just to hit him, he is nearly invincible. He is a cat folk monk 7/apostle of peace 10 with a +1 racial adjustment and +2 for the saint template. Str: 8 Dex: 14+4 racial+4 vow Con: 15+2 saint+1 level+6 vow Int: 8 Cha: 10+4 saint+2 vow+2 racial Wis: 18+2 saint+8 vow+4 level Due to the AOP levels I had to ditch the manuals. This is what I get from the vow of poverty. +10 exalted bonus to ac (works wile armor but protects against brilliant energy weapons) +3 deflection +2 natural to ac. damage reduction 10/evil, +5 enhancement bonus on all attacks and is good aligned. No need for food, water, or air. +8/+6/+4/+2 enhancement bonus to scores of my choice. Energy resistance 15, true seeing, regeneration, freedom of movement, +3 resistance bonus on all saving throws, Immune to detect thoughts, discern lies, and any attempt to discern his alignment. Can life in -50 to 140 degrees without having to make fortitude save. And 3 bonus exalted feats. This is what I get from saint hood: type changes to outsider (native), insight bonus to ac equal to wisdom bonus. Save Dc's for all spells spell-like abilities, super natural, and extraordinary abilities increase by two. Any weapon wielded it treated as holy and does an additional 1d6 damage to evil creatures and 1d8 to evil outsiders (plus the extra 2d6 form holy Ki strike). Any evil creature that strikes a saint with a natural attack takes holy damage as if hit by the saints attack. Spell like abilities: at will-guidance, virtue, resistance, and bless. Damage reduction 10/evil, fast healing 10, immune to acid, cold, electricity, and petrifaction attacks. Low light vision, 60ft dark vision. As a free action, I can have a nimbus of light that surrounds my by 20 ft, with the following qualities, a double strength magic circle against evil (which gives me an additional +1 to ac and saves, it would be more but the normal bonus has the same name as previous bonuses). And a lesser globe of invulnerability, both cast as a cleric of a level equal to my hit dice. Fire resistance 10 and +4 racial bonus against poison. Permanent tongues spell. +2con +2wis +4cha Feats: sacred vow, vow of poverty, improved toughness, practiced spell caster, sudden extend, sudden widen, sudden maximize Bonus feats from VoP: vow of nonviolence, vow of peace, nimbus of light, holy radiance, stigmata, nymph’s kiss, intuitive attack, vow of abstinence, vow of purity. Thanks to being an apostle of peace I can wear protective magic items despite the vow of poverty. Here is what I picked. Mantle of epic spell resistance for spell resistance 40, +1 bracers of armor of Heavy fortification (look in the arms and equipment guide for rules on this, now Natural 20's are not nearly as deadly as before.), and a creation of my own, the amulet of hope, which grants a +8 sacred bonus to AC, a +6 luck bonus to AC, a +3 sacred bones to saves, gives the wearer the benefit of a sanctuary spell and the ability to cast lesser restoration and cure moderate wounds at will. Saves: fort: +25 reflex: 24 will: +29 Conditional saves: +4 racial against poison (from sainthood), +2 against enchantments (from monk), +4 perfection against poisons and drugs (from vow of abstinence) +4 perfection bonus against disease and death effects (from vow of purity) His Ac should be as follows 10+12 exalted+5 deflection +5 natural +8 sacred +6 luck +6 dexterity +1 monk + 11 wisdom +11 insight for a total of 75. From vow of peace boosted all the exalted, defelction, and natural armor, were boosted by two which is already included. With his calming aura (will save DC 26), his weapon shattering ability (whenever he is hit with a manufactured weapon it must make a fortitude save DC 29 or shatter harmlessly against his skin), his pacifying touch ability (similar to calm emotions, but allows no save and spell resistance does not apply), his ultra high AC, Wonderful saves, and a continual sanctuary spell thanks to the talisman of light, It is very unlikely that any thing will ever hurt him. And since all his spells and abilities have their saves boosted by two plus an additional four against humanoids and monstrous humanoids, his spells will be hard to resist. What do you think? |
| SoulGamit01-07-06, 12:44 PM | Anthropomorphic Baleen Whale Monstrous Humanoid 3 / Monk 2 / Stoneblessed 3 / Deepwarden 2 / Forsaker 3 / Apostle of Peace 4 LA: Saint +2, Mineral Warrior +1 Assuming you place 18 into con and 18 into wis at the beggining (meaning 32 point buy) you'll have stats like this in the end: Str: 8+ 8 Racial + 2 Mineral Warrior = 18 Dex: 8 + 4 Racial + 4 VOP = 16 Con: 18 + 4 Racial + 8VOP + 3 Forsaker + 4 Mineral Warrior + 2 Saint + 5 Levels = 44 Int: 8 - 2 Mineral Warrior = 6 Wis: 18 + 4 Racial + 6VOP - 2 Mineral Warrior +2 Saint = 28 Cha: 8 + 2VOP - 2 Mineral Warrior +4 Saint = 12 Natural Armor: (before VOP) +9 Racial + 3 Mineral Warrior Vow of Peace + Vow of Poverty Bonuses: + 12 Armor + 4 Natural Armor + 5 Deflection Totle AC: 95 (50 Touch) Forsaker + Deepwarden gives my con to AC twice. Saint + Monk gives me wis to AC twice This could be higher with manuals (I don't have to take VoP until level 15) but I forget how much they cost and what the standard wealth is for a 15th level character. It could also be improved more with the improved natural armor feats. You can also increase it more by increasing Apostle of Peace with more Forsaker levels, which would increase the AC by another 4... but I think Apostle of Peace is more useful. And Apostle of Peace does not allow you to wear protective magic items, that's only fluff text... incorrect fluff text. |

| X-Codes01-07-06, 03:17 PM | No, you can't use tomes. You can, however, benefit from Wish spells cast by another spellcaster if you aren't a Forsaker. |
| SoulGamit01-07-06, 03:40 PM | You can with foresaker too as long as you don't mind waiting a year and a day, with tomes/wish spells you'd up your AC to an additional +8 or +10 if you take foresaker levels instead of AoP levels. |
| X-Codes01-07-06, 04:21 PM | You can with foresaker too as long as you don't mind waiting a year and a day, with tomes/wish spells you'd up your AC to an additional +8 or +10 if you take foresaker levels instead of AoP levels. No. This is the most overlooked part of Forsaker. The bonus stat points a Forsaker gives are INHERANT BONUSES. More than 2 Forsaker levels is pretty much a waste because all of the class features beyond there are incredably weak. |
| nachtmeister01-07-06, 06:33 PM | con as a natural armor bonus is weak ? ......... |
| X-Codes01-07-06, 06:45 PM | con as a natural armor bonus is weak ? ......... Well, compared to other stat to AC boosts like Monk, Deepwarden, Saint, and so on yes, but not if you already have all those. Note that you get con to AC at level 2 Forsaker, anyway. |
| vardock01-08-06, 02:08 PM | first what books did you get those classes from? second, It is not from flavor text, It was under weapon and armor proficiencies, Not under the flavor area. IT IS CORRECT. there is other precident for this. the folucherian Lyerist can wear metal armor without penality, despite being a druid. and if you look at the picture of one in the book, you will see he is wearing a lot of BLING, further proving my point. next, although your build has a better AC (which I appauld you for  ), and a very high con, which gives you a ton of hp, fort save bonuses, and a big bost to the weapon shatering abality, the low Int would be a problem, since I plan for him to have a ton of ranks in diplomacy and symergy bonuses to help it, the addational penalty to his int. bonus would be harmful. the low chrasmia would hurt his diplomatic abalites and his number of censure fiends abality attempts. and the str is useless to someone who is not a melee combatant, espically since he will use his wizdom mod with his pacifing touch (which is the only attack roll he will ever make), thanks to intuitive attack. , since 9th level spells are very powerful (espically end to strife with my sudden metamagics) besides, there are few things I will encounter at this level that can hit my 75 AC without a natural 20, and still be able to make the necessary saves. what I really need is ideas for non-exalted feat selection and how I can better equipt him, as well as a way to get rid of my multi-clasing penalty without giving up my censure fiends abality and spellcasting advancement. |
| jstorrie01-08-06, 03:00 PM | Having weapon and armor proficiencies does not get around the stipulations of Oath of Poverty. If you break the oath, you lose the feat, and if you lose the feat you no longer qualify for Apostle of Peace, which cuts off its class features. |
