Hi all, I was wondering if you could help me create a lvl 20 fighter for a tournament. We have a tournament every week after our regular meet, and I've been playing fairly average characters, but this week I would like to really show them something. So I need a character, base race, any set of classes with the exception of Frenzying Berserker, and can't cast any spells. We get 700,000 gp to spend, but I don't think I need any help with items unless its something special or important to the class or whatever.

So I would like a character with the highest strength possible because I know one of the other players has a dervish with around 20 attacks, and I'd like to hit him as hard as I can before he can hit me.

What books do you have? Are you allowed to pre-buff with potions and stuff? What does your arena look like? What are the victory conditions? Is it a grand melee or a king-of-the-hill or single-elimination or double elimination or what?

I guess that I ddnt tell you everything, tis my first request.

All books are allowed, fighters start 60 ft apart, no potions, prebuffing isnt allowed as far as I know, such as you cant use a magic item or whatever right before the fight to get its bonus. As far as I know, every kind of buffing other than enhancement bonuses or similar on magic items you have possession of is not allowed. They are one-on-one battles, with four competitors usually, and when you when the fight, you fight the winner of the other first round match or if there are more, then there is a more structured bracket system. If you kill the other competitor, then you win the match.

Also, vorpal enhancements are banned, and so will wounding enhancements after this week. Oh, yes, as is the Kensai class, because the DM abused it and found it overpowered at lvl 20. No invis or other concealment, as the crowd doesnt appreciate that. No spellcasters to worry about because the tournaments have been broken apart into fighter vs. fighter one week to mage vs. mage the next week.

I think that should cover it, but if not I can answer any remaining inquiries about anything that's allowed. But all I'm really looking for is a character with as high a strenght as possible.

Have you considered the Hulking Hurler build then? You can't do everything in that build, because of the lack of pre-buffing, but the strength is pretty impressive...

Are you serious about the dervish character that can make 20 attacks??

I can only possible such character to make 9 attacks... 4 with one hand, 3 with the other hand and plus 2 from the "speed" ability from each weapon.

Where does it comes the remaining 11 attacks!?!

Dervish's 10th level ability - A Thousand Cuts. Doubles your available attacks.

Two concepts that might work for you:
1) Grappling build. Everyone is going to think of ways to hack you into itty bitty pieces, or crush you to goo, or put more holes in you than swiss cheese. If that is the case, then no one will expect to be choked to death.

2) Iaijutsu Master. This is what they were born to do.

hulking Hurler is out because of the base race requirement. You know, I have a way that would give you a +14 weapon. In other words, a weapon with a +5 enhancement bonus, and up to +9 of other bonuses. And, as a bonus, you only have to pay for a +10 weapon. As a side note, I only used the vorpal idea for an example, as it isn't allowed in your game. However, a +1 keen, flaming burst, Icy burst, shocking burst, thundering, humanoid: human bane weapon would be nice, espiecally when that +! becomes +5. Well, +7 vs humans.

In order to do this, there are a few things you have to do. These things may make this a choice you don't like. You have to be an Illumian, from RoD, and take the PrC Shadow Sentinel. With that class, you get an Umbral Blade. This, by 14th level, is a +5 weapon to you. The key to this, however, is you have to lose the blade. Then, you can take any slashing weapon with at least a +1 enhancement bonus, and make it your new Umbral Blade. It costs you 100 XP. So, you take, say, a +1 vorpal dancing great sword, and make it your umbral blade, it now is a +5 vorpal dancing umbral blade in your hands.

Another thing to consider, although this is underhanded, and may be frowned upon by your DM, but if I read the requirements roght, you can use anything out of any book, except for what you noted, right? Being as the Gestalt Option is in UA, it would thus apply. Granted, he might be a little miffed about that, but can he REALLY argue? He DID say anything except those few certain things, right?

Also, no magic. How about Psionics? a Psychic Warrior in the mix could be highly useful. I won't even get into the Epic Level handbook, and the nice toys in there. As they have an updated to 3.5 version here, http://srd.pbemnexus.com, this is technically useful, too.

Hope this helps.

I can answer some of these questions...

We play the pionic-magic transparency rule, so manifesting is out... But the soulknife is still ok for obvious reasons. Also, I'm pretty sure we don't use UA, but it would be funny to see Spee's face when he finds out he's up against a gestalt character.

I've seen Dervish's with 52 attacks in a round...
One another note lets see...

As for the dervish, what weapon does it use? Tried making a Grappling build?

Monk 1/Swashbuckler 4/Initiate of the Draconic Mysteries 10/Reaping Mauler 5

Not sure on it's exact specifics as I pulled it off an old character I haven't played in a long time.

Hmm. Could you use a class that has magical abilities, but no spellcasting? Say, a non-spellcasting Master of Many Forms?

Here is a thought: Go with a Sunderer build. Sure, those 10 attacks are great, but what use are they without a slashing weapon? And so, with one attack, he is next to worthless.

Are you allowed a Mount ? CAVALIER 10 is a deadly build.

It sounds like your DM wouldnt allow the Supermount build... http://boards1.wizards.com/printthread.php?t=382372 as started by Caelic

Well if all books are allowed that has some mean possibilities.... Heres a nice way to pull the win out of no where and get a chuckle out of everyone around, not counting your opponent. This assumes a melee opponent, if ranged, just try to beat on them i guess, its worth the risk for the reactions.

Barbarian 1/ whatever 9/ Bear warrior 10

Take Great Throw, Karmic strike, hold the line and defensive throw.

Purchase a portable hole, a hand of the mage, and bag of holding.

On your first turn, place the portable hole with your reach, choose to activate karmic strike, declare your opponent for your dodge target, and choose to rage, taking dire bear shape. Wait.

If your charges into reach, hold the line gives you an AoO. If they Hit you, you get a AoO, and if the miss you.. you get an AoO. Use the to attempt trips. If you sucessfully trip your opponent, you get to place them in any square you theaten by merit of the great throw feat. Place them in the portable hole. This most likely makes it your turn.

End your rage, and fold up the portable hole, toss the bag of holding on the ground and open it. Walk 20 feet away and use the hand of the mage to place the portable hole in the bag of holding. Pose for the crowd.

If you want to speed things up a bit you can replace the hand of the mage and the bag of holding with a rod of cancellation, that works just as good.

Twylight, that is truly ..... well, hilarious is the best word I can think of. I am pretty sure that would really **** off the other guy, who probably spent a good deal of time making his character. LOL, I love it!!

If we could have mounts, I would have used the cavalier build long ago. But no, we cant have mounts in any form, no special mount, and no summoning.

Alright, I saw this post and I figured I had to put in a comment or two. Check out this post, it is a character that I came up with about 2 weeks ago. Ninja type character, that has an init of +18(so you SHOULD get init) and does 2340 points of damage on average in 1 round. End of other characters, and it looks pretty cool (super high jump followed by 4 swings) for the crowd (since this seems like it is a gladiatoral fight). I have listed all the books I use, as well as starting stats. Take a look here

Oh, and if you don't know what a catfolk is, its in the races of the wild book.
