So, my group is going to start an alternate campaign so that we switch off DMs and don't have the onus all on one person. Thus I need a new character and the agreement is that we'll all try something new. I usually play arcane characters but this go around I'm planning on trying a fighter.

So from a pure damage dealing and all out killing machine, what combo is better? The straight fighter with a greatsword can make use of a wide variety of feats. On the other hand I'm thinking that a Fighter/Warlock can take battlecaster twice at first level (so I can use all the invocations in heavy armor) and then hideous blow. Thus as a Fighter 1/Warlock 1 I will do 3d6 with a greatsword. As the warlock levels ramp up I can keep adding d6's to my damage.

BUT, I'll have less feats than a fighter. In the end will I end up doing far less damage or be at a significant disadvantage over a straight fighter? Warlock can give me nice abilities in combat (invisibility at will, see invisible, jump bonus for Leap Attack, etc.) plus damage reduction to some extent and minor elemental resistances.

Not sure which is the better route.

If you're going to go the fighter/warlock route, plan out your build ahead of time and make sure that you'll have +16 BAB.

unless i missed something, i dont think battle caster can be selected more than once.

One thing to be aware of is that hideous blow is a standard action. So you will only get 1 attack per round using hideous blow. At higher levels this might start to fall behind damage wise. Plus your BAB will fall behind going pure warlock. So you might have a harder time hitting things at higher levels. Now a warlock has some nice invocations, but I don't think a fighter1/warlock will outmelee a fighter. So if you want to go the warlock route it's best to be doing it because you want to play a warlock.

Eldrich Blast does not a damage dealer make. Even SA does more, and there are plenty of classes that grant full BAB with SA including some very useful ones like Ronin.
