I'm mostly looking for a second opinion on my thoughts here, but feel free to make other suggestions.

Background
Eberron Campaign Setting, all non-campaign specific WotC supplements.

The Party
Human Ranger (Archery Path) 4 (Heading for Order of the Bow Initiate)
Human Fighter 2/Rogue 2 (Two weapon fighter heading for Tempest)
Shifter (Longtooth) Monk 4
Kobold Sorcerer 4
Gnome Sorcerer 4

My Character
Human Artificer 4
Str 14, Dex 14, Con 14, Int 17, Wis 12, Cha 12
Feats: Extraordinary Artisan, Favored in House (Cannith), Least Dragonmark (Making), Legendary Artisan, Magical Apititude (Background feat)

----------------------

Note: Our group never looks for pure power - our games are scaled to our abilities so a pure power build of doom isn't really needed. We can afford to take feats and classes for flavor and backstory instead of raw power. Obviously I'm not going for a blastificer or bufficer build, as I plan on taking the other dragonmark feats.

As you can see, we lack any sort of real divine healing power, so I've been pressed into the role of party healer. That's never been a problem, I can produce scrolls of cure serious wounds cheaply enough that it's not been a big issue. I've also been pressed into the role of party face since both of the sorcerer players don't really roleplay a face person well and the monk is very withdrawn.

So lately I've been looking at a possible 3-5 level dip in a class to round out my abilities. I'd prefer to stay within 3 levels, as the last three levels of Artificer are fairly worthless. I have no plans on multiclassing before level 7, as I want the level 5 and 6 Artificer abilities.

Currently I've got three front runners for a dip.

1. Human Paragon - Not bad in my opinion
2. Dragonmarked Heir - I already qualify and would pick up the dragonmark feats for free, freeing up feat slots for something more exicting. The loss of spellcasting and item creation progress really hurts though.
3. Bard - As a support character this works well enough and it would allow me to pick up Music of Making (worthless I know, but it fits the character).

So, what do you think? What is worth taking and what isn't worth taking? Is there something I've missed beyond the obvious choices (Wand Adept, Alchemist Savant)? Is it worth dipping a few levels in something else to round out my face skills or am I just suffering from "the grass is greener" syndrome?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

well before the erratta came out a heir of syberis was very sweet for an artificer (what with true creation for no cost). other then that maybe a chameleon for the free bonus floating feat. artificers rule as it is and they lose alot (craft reserve and bonus feats) when multiclassing much like the warlock does. I also remember seeing a renegade master maker abuse a while back. it essentially involved making slotless warforged components to gain lots of cheap HP as per renegade master maker. that and you get to be bionic which is flavorful as well. I dont know much about the class as I belive its in magic of eberron which I dont have.

here's the long and short of the renegade mastermaker class.

Requirements:
Humanoid
Craft (armor/blacksmithing gemcutting or sculpting) 8 ranks
craft magic arms+armor craft wonderous item.

Spells:
all lvls except 1st/7th boost spells

3/4 bab progression
fort/will saves high

pretty much you slowly turn yourself into a warforged, each componant imbedded (lvl 7 allows embedding) gives 1 hp

at 10 you ARE a warforged, and there's various other things that it gets as well.
oh, and at lvl 10 you get a bonus warforged feat (can be adamantine/mithral body)

The problem with renegade mastermarker is that you actually loose any feats for which your race is a prerequisite (which means that I'd loose all my dragonmark and favored in house feats with nothing to replace them with).

It's not bad, but for this character it's a huge hit.

would you need to go to level 10 in it? or do you loose the feats right off the bat. I honestly dont really like any class ability that changes my type and whatnot. but most of the time it can be avoided by not taking that last level. cyborgs are allmost as cool and ninjas or pirates. I mean thats gotta be something.

actually.....I don't see anywhere where it says you loose feats that had your previous race as a pre-requisite.
If I'm missing that entry, please point it out to me.

Well, you don't actually loose the feats, you just cease to benefit from them, as you no longer qualify for the said feats, as per the rules for feats.

I suppose I wouldn't need to take all 10 levels, but the class really doesn't fit the character at all. Any other suggestions?

There's alchemist savant, also from magic of Eberron
Requirements:
Craft (alchemy) 8
Brew Potion
Favored in house (cannith) Least Dragonmark (making)
(you're allready qualified  )

5 lvl class
1/2 bab
fort save high
full casting
faster alchemical (and potion) creation
poision use
spellvial (make thrown potions that affect other creatures, like hold person and such)
ability to combine alchemical "stuff" with spellvials
universal potion (create now, imbue later)

pretty much fun with potions, and I recall there was a 3.0 PrC that allowed placing higher spells into potions, which could work with it.

I quite like alchemist savant, spell vials sound like fun (although mostly for no-save spells such as scorching ray and buffs). Even with the whole feats for background thing Id still get metamagic spell trigger + quicken ... it adds so much flexibility :)

What about going for Effigy Master levels?
Might have to house-rule a bit to qualify (class spell lists... hmph).

Might be good to have an Effigy Large Spider running around, delivering Cure spells from an embedded Wand

On a side-note, if a DM DID house-rule the spell qualification, what would be the minimum level an Artificer could become an Effigy Master?

Played Arcanum by any chance?

I'd recommend the chameleon as well, the 2 lvl dip for the feat means you can use stuff like craft contingent item, and craft construct easily.

Problem is of course, not having able learner.

Other that that, i guess cannith wand adept is always nice.

Besides that, what you got listed is fine.

You've got Craft Wonderous Item. Make an item that makes you more personable (like a hat or something). Instant +5 bonus to Diplomacy.
