cultjake 12-06-04, 08:21 PM	The DM is allowing me to rebuild my 3.0 Hospitaler from the ground up. The build grew organically from level 6 to level 16: Ftr6Clr4Hosp6 Because of an alignment shift to LG, and an artifact Greataxe that wants me to stay at LG, I want to explore my options as a Paladin. (If you have to be LG, make the most of it) BOOKS: Core, CD, CW, Eberron Stats: (can be modified) Str 18 Dex 12 Con 16 Int 14 Wis 16 Cha 22 (16 + 6 cloak) My first stab at it....... Human Ftr2Pal14 Ftr1 PwrAtt, Cleave, MtdCombat Ftr2 Ride By Attack Pal1 Divine Might Pal4 Leadership Pal7 Craft Wondrous Item Pal10 Great Cleave?? Pal12 Spirited Charge?? The leadership and craft feats must stay. I have an excellent mount, as well as an animated shield. I understand that I've put up a pretty vanilla build, but I don't know the new Pally that well and would like whatever advice exists.
Qaetar 12-06-04, 08:42 PM	I'm assuming that Craft Wonderous is a character background point, thus its necessity. Well, making the most of your Craft Wonderous requires a good Caster Level, so might I suggest Practiced Spellcaster for a +4 boost to CL? Also, Cavalier, from CW, progresses your Paladin mount while utilizing your current mounted/charger focus. And your Cohort, what's he up to? Oh, you can't have Divine Might at Paladin 1. You don't get Turning until Pal 4. I'd also drop the Fighter levels if you want to actually use your caster level. If, on the other hand, you just have Craft Wonderous for show, go Fighter 2/Paladin 6/Cavalier 10 and be a charge-meister. (Qaetar)
Funny Slaughter 12-06-04, 09:23 PM	i would take a look at Fist of Raziel, its a Paladin-PrC that advances spellcasting. perfectly suited for a LG cleric/pally. hospitaler with a paladin-base is also a good option, and combining all three is sure possible. get your non-caster-levels as low as possible... edit: and dont forget prestige paladin! gs Funny
cultjake 12-09-04, 02:03 AM	Unearthed arcana is out. No Prestige Pally :weep: My DM is restricting me to a single PrC, in this case Fist of Raziel. Assuming that I mostly want to self buff and heal, what caster level is a necessity? We don't run into too many dispellers, so I don't think I need to spend a feat on Practiced Spellcaster. Do I need Nymph's Kiss for this build? I'd like some additional room for feats, and was thinking that I might trade out some Pally levels for Ftr levels for more feat room. I already have a mount from a non-Pally source. I mostly just want the Divine Grace. Craft Wondrous is a necessity: Low magic world. WotCWannabe 12-09-04, 02:41 AM	the reason practiced spellcaster is useful is because as a paladin, your spellcaster level is only half your paladin level. with the practiced spellcaster feat, your caster level is 4 higher. if you look at the caster level requirements for wondrous items, you will see how much this will help you. EDIT: with your spellcaster class being cleric, this isn't AS useful, however, there are still many instances where being a 19th level spellcaster is better than being a 15th level spellcaster.

Elgonn 12-09-04, 11:47 PM	Are you truly set on Fist of Raziel? Personally I doubt it is worth any levels. Your greataxe most likely already provides half the class abilities.
cultjake 12-10-04, 05:29 AM	I like martial clerics with as much spell versatility as possible. There aren't many combat based PrCs that still give full spellcasting. Hospitaler (nerfed in 3.5, loses 2 caster levels) Eldritch Knight Fist of Raziel (only loses 1 caster level) If I could have figured out a way to work Lion of Talisid I would've... Pounce is killer.
