| Craenor10-03-03, 11:50 PM | Well...our long running 1st edition campaign converted over to 3.0. My character was a grey elven cleric/magic-user with a toad familiar. Now we've converted to 3.0 and my GM is allowing me to take the Mystic Theurge prestige class. The restriction is that we can take PrC's, but our characters have to mostly remain the same to the extent possible. My character is 11th character level, str 10, dex 12, con 18 (w/ toad), int 20 (w/ ioun stone), wis 23 (+4 inherent bonuses from wishes), cha 14. With the toad I have 91 hit points. I have access to a fairly large number of wizard spells, but not all of them by a long shot...I hope to get access to more soon. My feats are: Improved Iniative Improved Counterspell Reactive Counterspell ???? For decent items I have Mace +4, Ioun stone int +2, Ring of Protection +3, Cloak of Resistance +3, Bracers of Armor +3, Rod of the Python, Ring of Free Action, Amulet of the Planes, Zagyg's Spell Component Case (carried over from 1st unchanged), and a Mithral Chain Shirt...and about 135,000gp in cash, with no place to spend it (trapped in the underdark right now). Can anyone suggest different feats I should have taken or a better way to develop my character from this point forward? Or just general ideas... Craenor p.s. As a side note, the wishes for the high wisdom were my consolation for the 4 wishes I had spent to improve my 1st edition psionics...which were yanked after conversion (not using psionics handbook). |
| Craenor10-04-03, 04:49 AM | I was thinking about taking Extend Spell for my one feat...and then probably taking persistent spell at 12th level... Or maybe Energy Substitution... Thoughts? |
| gfunk626610-04-03, 01:16 PM | Ummmmmm . . . there is no Mystic Theurge in 3.0, perhaps you mean 3.5? If not, then Mystic Theurge is not very well balanced for 3.0. For one thing, all of your buffing spells still have 1 hr/level duration making the class incredibly overpowered. |
| Craenor10-05-03, 10:28 PM | I should have been more clear. My GM allowed me to take Mystic Theurge, even though they don't exist in 3.0, because honestly in the transition from 1st to 3rd the Cleric/Magic-user loses a lot. I had to give up psionics too... At any rate, I did put my last feat into extend spell. Then when I made 12th last night I took persistent spell. Craenor... |

At this rate in 1st ed terms you will be a decent Fighter/Mage/Cleric. And you have dood ability scores. We all admit freely that our characters are a bit off balance for normal 3.0. One of the problems is that we played a strict, by the book, 1.0 game all the way up from 1st level to around 10th level. We were rolling random treasure, random encounters and taking down some serious, serious stuff. And it takes awhile in 1st edition to get to 10th level. So when we convert ourselves, our gear and our cash over to 3rd...well, I had more cash loot than my character was supposed to have gear, so throw my gear in too boot and it throws off the power scale some. I also gave up a lot to get to 3rd edition though. In 1st, I had about 200 psionic power points, cell adjustment to instantly heal hundreds of hp's a day, ability to go ethereal at will and I could be invisible to up to 50+ hit dice of creatures..of my choosing. So my friends could see me, the bad guys couldn't. My stats are awesome, but most of them have been raised by wishes or items at some point. Then throw in the three raises for 3rd ed now that I'm 12th level and the stats are nice too. A friend of mine tipped me off about persistent spell though. It's nice to run around with Shield and Expeditious Retreat up all the time. I was kind of upset when we went to 3rd ed...but I'm starting to enjoy it now. Being able to play an MT makes it a lot better than trying to go cleric/wizard. Craenor |
| Zardnaar10-07-03, 12:15 AM | Persistent Shield and Expeditious retreat? Advice. Look a 3.0 PHB. Look up Divine Favor and Divine Power. Consider what your character will look like in a few levels time. Fighter/Mage/Cleric. |
| Craenor10-07-03, 12:57 AM | I figured I'd wait another level before I started doing divine favor...and I'll have to wait awhile for Divine Power (8th level spell!). At this point, I don't do a lot of melee'ing..although, I just got a huge kick to my AC. I just upgraded my bracers of armor to AC6 and bought a +3 Light Mithral Shield of Heavy Fortification... So I'm definitely going to start doing some melee'ing... Craenor |
