| Banaticus06-14-06, 03:22 PM | Anyone know of a list of DnD/Forgotten Realms DnD 3.0 optimized builds? |
| Banaticus06-14-06, 04:54 PM | The Improved Critical feat once again stacks with the Keen Edge spell, Daylight is only a 2nd level spell, Quick Draw draws even weapons that have been hidden up a sleeve as a free action, Hide can be used in an otherwise empty stone corridor, if an enemy is dropped from an attack during a Whirlwind Attack then Cleave can be used to gain a free attack on another enemy, Power Attack works with light weapons, Stunning Attack works on constructs, oozes, etc., Enlarge Spell can double the distance for spells with a given Cone radius (60' cone becomes 120' cone), in case of a tie on opposed skill checks (Use Rope vs Escape Artist) it's the ability modifier that determines the winner not the ranks in a skill, if my character has a single rank in a skill he can attempt to Aid Another even if he couldn't normally accomplish the task on his own, for feinting in combat the target does not get to add its BAB to its Sense Motive check, the attitudes of NPCs can be changed with a single diplomacy check which only takes one round to accomplish, if a wizard is standing right behind a cohort who is 20' behind a front line fighter, then a tumbling enemy must make two tumble checks to attack the wizard as you can only move 20' with a successful tumble no matter how far your normal movement is, and magical items are generally cheaper. Pfew, I think that's about the list of things I care about. I'm looking for the previous guides to optimizing PrCs, etc. I found this old FAQ: http://boards1.wizards.com/archive/index.php/t-46947.html but as one commentator said, "This FAQ walks the fine line between being generic enough so it's helpful to newbies but specific enough so it's not irrelevant." The old 3.0 Optimization Library seems to have been in the same location as the current Library -- like 3.5 builds were gradually added in and 3.0 builds gradually erased so now there's virtually nothing left in the library regarding 3.0. |
| Thomas_Covenant06-14-06, 08:24 PM | As a self described Wizard junky, they could be stupid powerful in 3.0. The Wizard/Red Wizard/Archmage is a sick build without outside help, the spell power alone is brutal. 3.0 Spell Power, 3.0 Haste, 3.0 Simbul's Matrices, 3.0 school specialization.....ouch. Just ouch. Are you looking for a category of build(s), or do you want a list just "because"? |
| Banaticus06-14-06, 09:56 PM | Well, I'm looking for some type of magic user (arcane or divine) build. A list of builds would be nice as it would help jog my memory and suggest possible alternatives. I'm also looking at possible gish builds -- combining a bag of holding or something of the sort with Iajitsu Master and Flick of the Wrist for bonuses to every attack and denying your enemy his Dex bonus to AC with every attack. I'd have to pick up a mound of weapons at the end of each fight, but ... eh. I'd go full wizard, but I'm not sure how many other characters I'd be with and whether I'd have to go fully solo for a time or not. |
| Dark_and_Stormy06-15-06, 12:20 AM | Incantatrix. |
| Banaticus06-15-06, 02:25 PM | Woah, get this -- not only does he want to use 3.0, but no prestige classes (although he does want to use the 3.5 version of the ranger). That can only mean two things -- straight druid or straight cleric. I think I'll go druid, it's been a while since I've played one. I'll take a look at the animal list in the optimization library but I'm not sure what (if anything) has changed between the animals in 3.0 and 3.5 -- anyone have a 3.0 druid wild shape list? |
| Thomas_Covenant06-15-06, 02:45 PM | Hmm..no, straight wizard is still playable, but cleric and druid are better, I agree. The wild shape list shouldn't change, just keep in mind the Con changes your hps again, unless your DM house rules that. (Actually, you should ask first) You can't take Dire forms until later, but that's not a big loss. I think your animal companion is much weaker as well....been a long time since I looked at the 3.0 druid rules. |
| Banaticus06-15-06, 05:59 PM | You're right, the errated 3.0 Wild Shape does let you keep extraordinary abilities. Now to crunch the SRD and see what my animal choices are, although there are some nice suggestions for animal choices in Masters of the Wild. I read that my hp's wouldn't change with the Con change. I can't believe no PrCs -- it makes all of my old splat books that I didn't sell to get money to buy the 3.5 books half worthless. |
