3.0 Pale master [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-25-04, 11:47 PM I don't have my books with me, but if I remember it correctly, it gets an Undead Vassal as it's 10th level ability. IIRC, it gives you an undead Vassal who's HD is equal to your caster level.

Naturally, the highest caster level you can achieve is 15 as a pale master. This means you can get a Vampire or a Ghost companion. Both of these have high Level Adjustments, Vampire with a +8 and ghost with about a +4. Since it's not based on HD and not ECL, you can effectively get an ECL 23 vampire Vassal or an ECL 19 Ghost.

Now, there's the feat in the new Complete Arcane called "Practices Spell Caster." It allows you to add +4 to your caster level, but not exceeding your HD. Take this twice and suddenly your Pale Master caster level is 20.

You now have a 20 HD undead Vassal, meaning an ECL 28 vampire or 24 ghost. Make your vassal's primary caster class a Sorcerer and all of a sudden you have yourself a character better than your old- a full caster with a free template thrown on top, in addition to your original main character. Or, you could make your vampire a Favored Soul and become a mystic theurge like character, except spread over two different characters, making it more effective.

I haven't looked at my books in a while, so this might be far off base... Anyone know if this works?

12-26-04, 12:00 AM I looked through the abilities and found out the Pale Master gets to summon an additional vampire or ghost through his Summon Greater Undead ability to gain another minor caster. With two practised spell caster feats, he is able to summon a CR 19 ghost or a vampire, which equates to a ghost with 17 class levels or a vampire with 17 class levels- preferebly another casting class.
