Hey all,

i'm working on the build that I posted below, any feedback on things that should be changed/tweaked etc would be great, as well as some help on critiquing my spell list if anyone's up to it, but my more pressing question at the moment is concerning 3.0 Polymorph. I've been playing a while, but never made much use of this spell (as i've never played a spellcaster, at least not one to high enough level to cast it) and i'm having a difficult time finding threads on 3.0 polymorph, most of the stuff seems to be focused on the 3.5 version. Basically i'm just looking for some good forms to change into, from my understanding I can polymorph into a Solar and gain +21 nat armor, large size, flight, and nice str, dex, and con scores. is there anything better out there that i'm missing? and am i reading the description of the spell right in that those qualities are what i get, nothing more, nothing less? any help is much appreciated. thanks.

It depends on if your DM uses the Errata'd or the Unerrata'd version of 3.0 Polymorph. I think there were actually three different versions of it. The original one was only limited by the size of the creature, and familiarity.

So once you could cast the spell, you could turn into anything one size larger than you that you knew about. So yes, you could turn into things like Solars at 7th level, which is insane, even if you don't get most of their powers. Just getting their physical stats, mobility, size and natural armor is ridiculously powerful for a single 4th level spell.

Later the publishers realized how insanely overpowered that spell was (it was arguably the best buff in the game and an instakill for alot of creatures), and toned it down. They limited it by saying that you couldn't turn into something with more HD than the HD of the target or more HD than the caster level of the caster, whichever was lower. They also put a limit of 15 HD max on it, but I can't remember if that came at the same time or later.

If you can use the unerrata'd version, then Solar is just about the best form I could find for it in the core books. If you use the errata'd version, then you'll have to look for new forms each time you level. At 9th, the erinyes and succubi are pretty good.

The giants are pretty good combat forms, and you can progress up the scale till you get to stone giant and eventually firbolg, if you use stuff from the Monster Manual 2. And the firbolg is about the limit, as far as melee combat worthiness goes. Winged forms are also nice, especially those with humanoid shape. The erinyes and succubi are good for this for a long time, and the marrash from the monster manual 2 is also good.

many forms within the 3.5-polymorph-thread are from MM2 or FiendFolio which are still 3.0
other suggested monsters are listed with their 3.5 value but are just as good within 3.0 so you should find plenty of advise there.

if i was you i wont go with solar, the game is just no longer fun then. if you dont mind anyhow take a look at assume ability from savage species.

thanks for the help, that clears things up a bit, i'll talk to my DM, and see which version we want to use, maybe even 3.5 version, thought i'll be able to exploit that fairly easily being an outsider.

as for the specialization with incantrix, a sorcerer simply gets one more extra abjuration spell per level per day to cast, they do not actually get to learn a bonus abjuration at each level do they?
