Okay, please bear with me here. I searched the wizard boards, and even looked through the old 3.0 SRD, but couldn't find what I needed. I remember hearing somewhere how polymorph was supposed to work, but can find a version that matches what I seem to remember.

As I understand it, this is how it works.

The assumed form can have no more hit dice than you have, or 15 hit dice, whichever is less.

You cannot assume the form of an Outsider or of an Undead creature unless you yourself are already of that type. Further, incorporeal forms cannot be assumed under any circumstance.

You can assume the form of any creature who size is from Diminuative to one size larger than your normal size.

You keep your Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores, but acquire the Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution scores of an average member of the race you choose. You keep your own base saves and base attack bonus. The forms new Strength modifies your final melee attack bonus as well as the damage you do on a successful attack. The forms new Dexterity modifes your final ranged attack bonus as well as your new Reflex save. The forms new Constitution applies to your Fortitude save. A change in Constitution does not change your maximum hit points, or your current hit points. The exception being that the first time you shift forms with each casting, you regain lost hit points as if you had rested for a full day.

You retain your Spells, Spell-like abilities, and Supernatural abilities, but you do not gain any of the Spells, Spell-like, Supernatural, or Extraordinary abilities of the form you take.

Is this a correct summation?

The most current 3.0 Polymorph Other is found in Tome and Blood. It also restricted the types of creatures you could become (no undead, elementals, outsiders or gaseous forms unless you were already a creature of that type.)

Unfortunately, the 3.0 SRD never reflected offical errata.

The most current 3.0 polymorph other can also be found in the PHB errata, which can be downloaded fromthis page. (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/er/20040125a)

FYI - in the future questions of this nature should probably be directed to the 'Spells and Magic Items' forum.

(http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/er/20040125a) The PH errata is even older than the SRD version. Here's (pretty much) the version from T&B: http://66.34.111.89/eric/polymorphother.jpg .

(An even later version can be found in the PsiH errata.)

Ah, my applologies. I'd swear I remembered seeing an updated one in the errata, but oh well.
