| Faragon09-26-04, 03:09 PM | Human Wizard 5 / Shadow Adept 3 (We start at ECL 8. I plan on taking Archmage later on. If the DM'll allow it, I'll take a Sun Elf instead of Human for the +2 Int) The stats I rolled, with modifiers already applied. Str 12 Dex 13 Con 14 Int 17 (+2 from 4th and 8th level attribute points) Wis 11 (-2 from Shadow Weave) Cha 12 Skills: Concentration, Knowledge Arcana/Nature/Planes, Spellcraft (and bluff as soon as I get Shadow Adept Levels) Feats: Spellcasting Prodigy, Spell Focus Enchantment, Shadow Weave Magic, Metamagic Feat (either Extend, Still or Silent Spell) and either Tattoo Focus Enchantment or Craft Wondrous Item. I'm not sure wether I'll take Craft Wondrous Item, but I could use getting items cheaper, since I've only 27k to work with. So many desires, so little coin ;) Then again the +1 DC and +1 overcoming spellresistance on enchantments is nice to buff 'em even more. I plan to focus mostly on Enchantments. I'll have to take Skill Focus Spellcraft at 9th and Spell Focus Illusion at 12th to meet the archmage prereqs. But that's for the future. Any comments/advice for the plans I have for ECL 8? |
| Sentient09-26-04, 05:05 PM | Feats you want to end up with: Spell Focus (Enchantment) Greater Spell Focus (Enchantment) Tatoo Focus (Enchantment) If I understand correctly that this build isn't existified yet, Throw some of your points in charisma. You'll charm like no other. Also, For your second spell focus to get into Arch Mage, I suggest Necromancy over Illusion. You'll just get more mileage. (Magic Jar, Horrid Wilting) EDIT: I've remembered 3.0 Shadow Adept boosts DC up to +3! You might not find Tatoo Focus necessary. Throw the feat at Spell penetration or something.. |
| Faragon09-26-04, 05:23 PM | Thanks for you response. Indeed, this is just the draft for a new character. Except for the stats and the ECL, nothing's set in stone yet. Points into Charisma: I really want to focus my level 4/8/12etc points into Intelligence, so that I can raise the DCs as high as possible. (as well as tossing items like headband of intelligence into the mix) Besides, once I get the various dominate spells, charm won't be quite as important. How about if I invest in an item that boosts Charisma? (Like a cloak of charisma or the like) Else I'd have to pull out the 14 in CON for CHA, and I'm not sure if that'd be a good idea. The char has low hp and low fortsaves already. 3.0 SA, indeed has DC+3, and that's also for overcoming spellresistance ;) Now that I think about it, Spell Penetration would indeed be better, since it applies to all schools whereas Tattoo Focus only applies to Enchantment. Necromancy for second focus school, noted. Indeed, the higher level spells tend to get more necromancy. Lower level is more Illusion. :) |
| olothfaern09-26-04, 05:39 PM | ...and want more spell power. Take two red wizard levels after you take your 3 required (spell power +1, +2, and +3) archmage levels for another +1 spell power... |
| Faragon09-27-04, 04:25 AM | Red Wizard eh? another +1 sounds nice. Hmm... I'd have to give up another school. I was thinking of dropping Evocation for regular specialisation. Maybe Conjuration for advanced specialisation? That way I can still use Summon Monster V to summon several Lantern Archons to blast creatures without allowing their SR to kick in. I'd be able to cover both schools with (greater) Shadow Conjuration and Shadow Evocation if I'd need it. |
