| Domni Dalrose10-17-03, 09:10 PM | Hiya.. I did a search before posting but according to the search there were no threads on Lasher out of Sword and Fist. That seemed kinda odd to me .. I'm looking for some help with my character. She needs more umph and I'm sorta floundering on what to do that'll help. Basically I'm looking for ways to let my character go melee, do a bit more damage but still keep her out of harms way as her AC and HP don't allow for many hits. Stats: 12/16/12/16/10/14 (4th lvl point went into Wis, 8th lvl point went into Cha) AC: Bracers/armor +1, Int +3, Dex +3, Ring of Protection +1 also Dodge +1 and if using swords Twin Fighting Style +2 for a total of 18/19 or 21 w/swords. So far my character is a Swashbuckler 8 and enough to make 9th but I have'nt decided on what to take a level in. Swashbuckler Core class (http://www.silven.com/adnd.asp?case=show&id=78) Her current list of feats include Ambidexterity, *Two Weapon, Twin Fighting Style (FR), Dodge. Various feats from the Swashbuckler core class that help with her fighting style are a type of Weapon Finesse, Crafty Defense (Int to AC), Evaision, Uncanny Doge x2, and Skilled Strike which enables her to use her Dex as her damage mod rather than her Str. *Though they could'nt normally be used with whips my DM has ruled that he'll let me use these feats in conjunction with the whip. As a result I'll probably not take Rapid shot and treat the whips more as a melee weapon rather than a range weapon..if that makes any sense? Keep in mind that as a Swashbuckler can not wear any armor without negating her abilities. Also at 10th and 14th level of the Swashbuckler class she gets an extra feat and at 16th level she can add her Cha to her AC. Also, because the Swashbuckler class allows for taking Weapon Spec after 10th level. I had thought about taking a level of fighter which would add to her HP, Fort and an extra feat. I'd use that to take Weapon Focus: whip and my 8th level feat to take **Leadership. When I have enough Exps for 10th level I had thought about taking my first level of Lasher as it will keep her out of melee somewhat more so than if she fought using swords etc and will add a little bit to her damage with what is essentially sneak attack (+1d6 @ 2nd level of Lasher). **The Leadership feat is something I've planned on this character taking for a while now. She plans on having her own ship (maybe shipping company lol) and she'll let her followers and cohort run those for her while she goes adventuring. I'm not sure if it's noticable but my character lacks magic items for her level. The dm has realized that the pc's in the party are lopsided in regards to this and is going to work on correcting this but it'll take time. He's asked for our 'wishlist' of things we'd like our characters to do/rp/items etc. So if anyone has suggestions on items please let me know. :) Also, if anyone has any ideas other than Lasher please feel free to suggest. Any classed I add to the character will need to be rp'd but that should'nt be a problem unless it's something like Barbarian etc. I've yet to focus on any one weapon with the character but she has used whips, cutlasses, short swords and rapiers often. Thank you for any ideas! :tiphat: Edit: Forgot to say that our group does plan on taking these characters into Epic land. We all started at level 1, though some of us with different characters. |

| PhaedrusXY10-18-03, 04:14 AM | A level of Wizard or Sorcerer could be good for your character. It could provide a boost to your AC from Mage Armor and/or Shield. This seems like a good class to use as a fighter base in a fighter/wizard type character, since they can't wear armor anyway. I can't offer any advice on the Lasher, since I don't own Sword and Fist and have never made a build with that PrC. There was a thread on here a few weeks ago focused around it though. Make sure you select the second Character Optimization tab in the Search function menu. It's way down near the bottom of the list of forums to search. There are two labeled Character Optimization and the top one doesn't work for some reason. |
| Domni Dalrose10-18-03, 01:31 PM | I like the Sorcerer level idea PhaedrusXY, and thank you for mentioning about the second Character Optimization tab in the Search function menu!! I thought it really odd that there were no other Lasher topics. lol :) Hm..should I bother with the Ftr level at all? Right now she's Swashbuckler 8, and ready to level. Maybe go Swashbuckler 9, sorcerer 10, Lasher 11-21. Blech..decisions decisions!!! :) |
| Domni Dalrose10-19-03, 11:51 AM | Well, since everyone is so interested in my character  I'm going to post what I decided to do with her. Level 1-8 Swashbuckler, lvl 9 Ftr, lvl 10 Lasher, lvl 11 Ftr, lvl 12 Swash, lvl 13 Swash, lvl 14-20 Lasher. Feats: 1-8: ambi, 2 weapon fighting, dodge, twin fighting style-these are already taken and can't be changed. 9: precise shot, weapon focus 10:- 11: point blank shot 12: leadership (also pick up Alluring via Swashbuckler) 13: weapon spec 15: combat relfexes or rapid shot 18: improved crit My attacks, including my feats weapon focus/pbs/2weapon/ambicrack of fate/crack of doom/rapid shot (if i take it) will be: 14/9/4/-1/14/14/14/14 :D Base dmg including weapon spec/lashing whip/pbs will be +5. None of those numbers include dex or magical bonuses. Currently my character has a 16 Dex so that would bring up my attacks to 17/12/7/2/17/17/17/17 and my dmg to +8 and +4 on my 1 off hand attack. Due to the Swashbuckler, the dmg is based off Dex instead of Str. The only drawback I can see is that I won't be able to use Twin Fighting style once I go whips but, I think overall Lasher will help out my character's fighting style and help keep her not quite so close to combat as well as adding to her attacks and damage. I may still pick up a level of Sorcerer but I'll have to see about that. It seems that we're starting to fight more and more creatures that can overcome her AC even with Mage Armor on so..dunno. :) |
