| FrothyMonkey05-01-04, 06:54 AM | 3.0 FR campaign starting up, woot, time to make another wizard. Access is PHB, DMG, TaB, MoF, FRCS.... Obvoiusly Archmage will be later on, but, what to fill it with? I was looking at Incantatrix for the lovely instant metamagics, but, eliminating schools to specialize in Abjurer looks painful. However if experience dictates the Incantatrix is THAT good, what schools should I drop to specialize in Abjuration? Otherwise I was thinking of filling it with some things like War Wiz, Arcane Devotee, Alienist, heck maybe even Loremaster. I don't care much for Elemental Savant. Really Incantatrix looks about the best, but, are the Improved Metamagics worth losing two schools of spells over? Or should I just go for something else... |
| Bopple05-01-04, 07:07 AM | Of course it is worth losing schools. And as you are using 3.0, Shadow Adept and Red Wizard are also excellent. Actually, those 3 classes are too much powerful. And as for prohibited schools, you lose only 1 school, unless you choose divination & necromancy. That's because you are using 3.0. |
| Son of Khoron05-01-04, 07:19 AM | love the archmage in 3.0 evoker-5/red wizard of thay-10/archmage-3/fatespinner-2 thayan wiz gives you bonuses to spell power in a single school, and high arcana of the archmage gives you opportunity to increase spell power even more. you option to drop the fatespinner levels for two more levels in archmage and two more high arcana. wizard-5/loremaster-10/archmage-5 is one build that is mediocre. |
| FrothyMonkey05-01-04, 07:27 AM | Ah right, my bad. Ok then...so if I lose a school, what would be a good one to lose? I am thinking Necromancy or Enchantment, leaning towards Necromancy simply because with the choices in sources there really aren't a lot of useful spells, but I could be wrong here. |
| Bopple05-01-04, 09:22 AM | Aye, Necromancy is a weak school. I think Enervation is the best offensive spell of 4th level. And it works out very well with Improved Metamagic. But with that kind of uber-powerful PrC, it is negligible. |
| ZenRanger05-01-04, 09:46 AM | when i played a 3.0 build of this exact nature i dropped enchantment, and i cant really say that i ever missed it. just my two cents though. i would definetly just go the old standard wiz5/incantrix10/arch5 route, its simple and powerful. |
| Nyte05-01-04, 10:14 AM | Actually there are only a few good necro spells but there is nothing like a twinned maximized ray of enfeeblement for 22 points of strength without save! It kinda makes a difference in combat :D I couldnīt live without it!!! |
| Bopple05-01-04, 10:21 AM | 3.0 Ray of Enfeeblement requires fort save. And as ZenRanger have said, Enchantment is also a good school to drop. But then again, some like playing insidiously with enchant spells. |
