Greetings,

I'm pretty new to the idea of character optimization so I was looking for a bit of help. I've never played as a half-orc or barbarian before, and in the upcoming campaign I plan on being both.

My initial stats are Str 20, Dex 17, Con 18, Int 11, Wis 13, and Cha 9.

I want my character to wield a greatsword, and eventually put to good use his massive strength together with Power Attack.

I'm not too familiar with what are must haves for barbarian characters, so please, if you can offer any help, please do.

Lvl 1 Power Attack
Lvl 3 Cleave
Lvl 6 Great Cleave
Lvl 9 Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Mercurial* Greatsword)
Lvl 12 Monkey Grip**
Lvl 15 Improved Critical (Mercurial* Greatsword)
Lvl 18 Extend Rage**

*Sword and Fist
**Complete Warrior

Power Attack, Cleave, and Great Cleave are my personal barbarian holy trinity. Get them as early as as possible and use them often. At 1st level Power Attack usually isn't an optimal feat choice because you don't have much base attack to work with, but your feats are few and far between. In 3.5 Power Attack is even more valuable for anybody who wields two handed weapons. At 12th level with that feat progression you'd be slamming around a Large Mercurial Greatsword. Mad mad damage and horrific criticals...

Less cheese build:
Lvl 1 Power Attack
Lvl 3 Cleave
Lvl 6 Great Cleave
Lvl 9 Dodge
Lvl 12 Mobility
Lvl 15 Spring Attack
Lvl 18 Improved Sunder

Same start, but more mobile at higher levels. Put that increased movement rate to goode use; charging, hitting, (maybe cleaving) and moving on toward more important targets (like that guy in robes standing in the back trying not to be noticed). Improved Sunder just adds insult to the already whopping injuries you'll be laying out. Who in your party needs an unholy, human bane longsword anyway? Better to have it break than have that persistant bad guy keep trying to stick it into your liver. Alternately you could take Improved Sunder at 9th level and take Dodge, Mobility, and Spring Attack at later levels IF you can handle the other party member whining at you for destroying "their" loot.
