Yes, the subject made very little sense. Here's the situation: My Rules-Fu is weak. We're playing in a 3.5 game. HOWEVER, seeing as how there's no 'official shifter' for 3.5, and the class was horribly gimped/destroyed by the changed definition of Wildshape, my DM is allowing me to use the 3.0 MotW Shifter class. Now, I already have the required feats for the PrC (Alertness, Endurance), and I'm lost for a feat at level 6. I also need a character progression. I was thinking:

Druid 1, Alertness
Druid 2
Druid 3, Endurance
Druid 4
Druid 5
Shifter 1, ?????

HELP!!

Please abuse liberally.

FYI, I've read Uberling's Druid Handbook, and both the 3.5 and 3.0 Shifter's Bibles by Herk..., and I'm just not sure how to best combine them. Thx in advance.

I'm not really sure why so many people think Shifter was so horribly treated by 3.5. The "Trick" was closed, but that was because they changed the text of wildshape, not because they changed the text of Shifter, which was compliant with the new HD restrictions before the Druid was. Anyway, the Shifter class is still a respectable PrC. You might want to try my Shifter build:

Druid5/ Shifter10/ Warshaper4/ Nature's Warrior1

Dragon Wildshape is a good feat to take (really!). If you don't plan on casting spells in wildshaped form you can probably avoid Natural Spell. If you're playing a good druid you might want to pick up Exalted Wildshape. Nature's Warrior requires Track, but once you can take NW you should take it as quickly as possible to pick up Nature's Weapons, getting rid of one of the major problems shifting types have: getting through damage reduction.

Why not Druid 6 rather then Nature's warrior? Unless you are gaining Shifter Epic wildshape =P

Thx for the help horndgod. I should probably be more clear...

My understanding is that I get the Ex. abilities of the form I assume, not the Su. ones, yes? I also don't get spell-like, correct? Now, the world is homebrew, with PC races restricted to Humans and Goblins. Grr....no Anthro Bat or Jarmaline for me....

Say I take Track as my Level 6 feat. Should I go for 2 more levels of Shifter, and then go NW, or pick up the Nature's Warrior at level 7?

A few more points I'm not clear on:

Do I keep my own HP, or to I change it to the form I'm in?
What feats should I take at 9th? 12th?

Thx for the help.

First off, you should go Human, rather than the Goblin your number of feats suggest you are. As for feats, Blindsight is handy, Assume Supernatural Ability (Savage Species) is brilliant for any Shifter who has a supernatural ability he REALLY likes (Beholder eye rays, for example), and Multiattack can help you squeeze out more attacks. Then there's stuff like Improved Initiative, which is always a decent choice.

Second, try talking your DM into allowing you to use Funny Slaughter and Harzerkatze's 3.5 Shifter (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=141733), as it's rather well balanced for 3.5 rules, and it's detailed definitions make it less of a headache than the official version.

Exceptional attacks only, if you go by the 3.5 rules. Unless you gain Draconic wildshape. Then you get Exceptional and Supernatural abilities of all sorts =)
