| SmiloDan12-31-03, 01:37 PM | I have a new Dwarf Ranger 3. Str 18 Dex 16 Con 19 Int 12 Wis 13 Cha 9 Skills: Handle Animal 1 rank, Hide 6 ranks, Knowledge dungeoneering 5 ranks, Knowledge nature 1 rank, Listen 6 ranks, Move Silently 6 ranks Search 5 ranks Spot 6 ranks Survival 6 ranks. Feats: Power Attack Cleave Track Two Weapon Fighting Endurance He currently wield a Dwarven Waraxe or 2, or Dwarven Waraxe and a Spiked Shield. I now have 2 magical Dwarven Waraxes. I was planning on taking Improved Shield Bash at 6th level, but if I already have 2 magic weapons, and a decent AC, do I really need the shield? Should I take Weapon Focus--Dwarven Waraxe to minimize the -4s to my attack rolls? Should I stick with the ranger class? Or eventually multiclass to fighter? Possible builds I'd consider: Ranger 6/Fighter X (improve animal companion, improved 2 weapon fighting) Ranger 8/Fighter X (2nd level spells) Ranger 11/Fighter X (Evasion, Greater Two Weapon Fighting) Ranger 12/Fighter X (3rd level spells) I'm going to improve Con and Wis at levels 4 and 8. I'm just not sure in what order. We're on a grand quest to recover an anvil, and since I'm the party tank, it might be my responsibilty to carry it, so after that I'm going up my Str. Feats I would like: Great Cleave Weapon Focus--Dwarven War Axe Improved Overrun Improved Bullrush Improved Critical Power Critical Improved Initiative (DM house rules INIT on d10, not d20) Combat Reflexes I just joined the campaign. It seems like the PCs are 4-7th level, and they have been playing for about a year of maybe twice a month sessions, I'm guessing. So I don't know how fast I will advance. For my animal companion, I want to get a wardog, and a whole lot of barding. |

Since you are the party tank, you need to be able to dish out damage *and* take it. I like your original objective to take the TWF feat chain ... but take it in conjunction with the Imp. Shield Bash route so you can smack Trolls with that kick-ass Dwarven War Axe and your Spiked Shield. All the while still having that Spiked Shield protect you. Because as the party tank, you are going to get hit ... a lot ... even with a high AC. So every iota of defense you can get will help you. Since Fighter is your preferred race's class, try this: Rgr7 / Ftr2 / KnightoftheMiddleCircle1 / Templar10 Benefits: 1. Your Ranger Endurance feat pays for part of Templar's pre-req. 2. KotMC gives you Combat Sense +2, offsetting your TWF -2 penalty. 3. You get 6 total bonus Ftr feats (2-Rgr, 2-Ftr, 2-Templar). 4. As a tank, you get Templar's robust DR. 5. Ranger, KotMC, & Templar spells! 6. Lots of other goodies granted by KotMC, Rgr, & Templar. 7. BAB +20 and damn good HD (average of around d9.3). XO, Snow :) |

Dwarven Rgr3/Bar2/HW1/Templar 10/KotMC1/Bar 2/X 1 i second the TWF going Axe/Shield style i recommend barbarian because TWF is usually only viable with bonus damage dice/modifiers. in this case you'll just get your strength as high as possible and dish out that tireless damage. either way...just my 0.02 cp edit: KotMC is from sword and fist |
