I'm wondering, are there any good posts on powerful 3.5 only builds? (IE only core and complete series)

There are tons of builds out there. "Powerful build" is very broad, so you might want to narrow that down a bit. Melee powerful? magic powerful? SA powerful?

Try a search first. There are so many builds out there, you're bound to find something. And if it has some 3.0 stuff in it, just omit those. I'm sure you could even repost the build and ask for help replacing the 3.0 stuff.

We at least some idea of what you are looking for...

The Complete series REALLY upped the bar on overall power level. Which aspect are you looking for?

By the way, by "core" do you include psionics? They're in the SRD.

My DM only allows 3.5 stuff, If the psionics handbook is 3.5 (I don't think it is) then it is allowed.

I am looking for more along the lines of lines of an offensive monsters, melee preferably but I am willing to try a caster.

No self-respecting player or DM would ever touch the Psionics Handbook again.

The Expanded Psionics Handbook is hands-down the best book WotC published last year. It's also the best balanced one I've seen out since 3.5 came out.

I meant expanded psionics, sorry.

expanded psionics is 3.5, in addition the 3.5 update booklet allowed all the "3.5 compatable" books to be focused on 3.5 rules...so any book that hasn't been reprinted (ie. material not updated through a new book), it's going to be 3.5.

My DM doesn't believe that, even though I explicitly told him that anything that wasn't updated is still legal. He says, almost everything was removed or changed, and most classes don't exist anymore and none of the 3.0 feats still work.

Then again, he also refuses to use a play mat or miniatures even though I would provide them all.

the miniatures handbook is a 3.5 product, and the update booklet addresses the changes your DM is afraid of.
btw next time he "says" something ask him to show you what he's talking about, because it sounds like he doesn't even know.

There's a list of updated and not updated material on the Wizards website, as well as the 3.5 update booklet. I can't find the former, but I uploaded a copy (http://www.telusplanet.net/~sdupuis/Tempest/Reference%20of%20Updated%20Material.pdf) when I saved it.

and so are all the books that have been printed since the 3.5 core books come out . . . of course. in fact, when we were waiting on those, wizards printed several books that were advertised as 3.5-compatible: savage species, the arms and equipment guide, unapproachable east, races of fearun, etc. these books are as 3.5 (according to the only source capable of proving such a thing, wizards) as the player's handbook and dmg are. you should tell your dm that if he wants to run a core-only campaign (or core and complete only, though i feel obligated to point out that the huge majority of broken stuff in 3.5 is from the complete books), he should just call it that instead of hiding behind half-assed justifications of 3.5 incompatibility.

I quite agree... But the fact remains the same?

Is there a list of what is 3.5 "compatible?" (The "" according to my DM)

And anyone have advice?

EVERYTHING since 2000 is 3.5 compatible. You can pick them up and use them without a problem -- 3.5 is very close to 3rd edition, you see, and any updates you need desperately are easily done in your head. It's not like me grabbing the VERY old Monstrous Manuals and slapping a few Hordelings at the PCs without serious revision.

For stuff that's actually 3.5, anything published after the revision, plus anything covered in the update booklet (Wizards.com/dnd website). For stuff that was in the old splatbooks and is now revised, follow my link above. Some old FR material is easily usable in 3.5, too -- follow directions in the Player's Guide to Faerun.

It doesn't matter, you can't convince me, because I already know all this, and tell him it every session, he won't change his mind, period. Thanks for the list though.
