| Colin10-18-03, 01:49 PM | Right now I'm toying with a Human Monk 2 / Fighter 2 / Barbarian2 / Rogue 1 / Shadowstalker 3 (random PrC I was sent, basically sneaky + sneak attack) / Ninja of the Crescent Moon 10 I'm decently set against most creatures when it comes to combat (could use a bit more tweaking but meh), but when it comes to things that can't be sneak attacked, the damage potential just isn't there. This thread is for suggestions on how to deal decent damage to said enemies. Undead are pretty easy to counter, but when it comes to constructs/plants/oozes, I'm sort of lost. PRACTICAL help would be most appreciated. Build modifications are acceptable, but I'd like to keep the Ninja for kicks |
| Prism10-18-03, 02:11 PM | For my halfling rogue who has the very same problem I am saving up to buy about 10 each of golem bane and undead bane sling stones. I couldn't think of any other way of doing it. My halfling doesn't have the hits to stand toe to toe with a golem, or the fortitude save to go anywhere near undead, nevermind the lack of sneak damage |
| catharz10-18-03, 02:41 PM | Ranger+favored enemy (plant, construct, or ooze), Supernatural critical. It might be a bit outdated, but even if favored enemy damage is now non-precision, the feats still allows criticals and SAD. |
| PhaedrusXY10-18-03, 03:10 PM | There is a spell called Bladebane in the Unnapproachable East book that grants the Bane ability to a weapon for 1 rnd/level. It's on the cleric, palladin and sorc/wizard lists. That would be extremely useful against non-sneak attackable creatures. |

Yeah its a neat spell if it didn't cost 500 gold in powdered ruby dust every casting. |
| rilem10-18-03, 03:53 PM | Quintessential Rogue from Mongoose has a feat called Splintering Strike, which lets you make sneak attacks against constructs. Mongoose doesn't exactly have a great rep around here, but apparently your DM's cool with 3rd party stuff. No ideas for plants/oozes (besides taking ranger levels, as catharz suggested) but how often does that really come up for you? Anyway, I'm not sure what the big deal is. Nobody's good against everything. |
| Colin10-19-03, 10:19 AM | Well, this particular campaign is just two PC's and an NPC weretiger, so being able to match up decently against anything would be a great boon. Thanks for the advice so far. Keep it coming :D rilem is right though, about plants and oozes. They don't come up too much. |
| draegl0th10-19-03, 12:34 PM | You're not playing in a one-man party, right? Rogues should never be a frontline fighter; eliminate foes vulnerable to sneak attack, and leave the others to your party tank. |
| Hanniball10-19-03, 04:51 PM | if you are trying to stick a tree with your dagger and find your self getting pummeld to death stay away from the damn tree! as draegl0th said don't try to tank! for those pesky plants pick up some of those alchemical substances from the AaEG. deflowerer or something stupid like that. for oozes, RUN... either way...just my 0.02 cp |

Not going to comment anymore, lest I get this thread moved to the mature boards. And yes, I have a sick mind. :smirk: |
| catharz10-19-03, 05:03 PM | Sounds like the perfect anti-dryad weapon ;) |
| Colin10-20-03, 05:39 PM | I have to tank to a certain extent. Between good rolls and the monk levels I have a good AC and a +2 con modifier so I'm set for defense. That's why this topic is very offense oriented. |
