| Ghalleon12-26-06, 08:37 PM | I have looked through threads and handbooks but was looking for a great sorceror build to use for a npc in my campaign and I'm not sure what to choose. He needs to be able to deal with those who try and fight him while protecting himself from front linemen. So I'm not exactly sure what to go with. |

Once you are a lich I would take levels in Tainted Scholar from Heroes of Horror. This is perhaps the most broken class ever developed. It switches your casting stat to your Taint with your bonus spells based on your depravity and your save dc's based on corruption. Both of these can be increased infinitely. The method for increasing your depravity is built into the class. It actually says that every time you cast a spell your taint increases by one (HOLY FREAKING PUN-PUN!). The general consensus is that this is balanced by the fact that your save dc's aren't going to be that hot since you now calculate your saves as 10 + 1/2 corruption + spell level. Now for breaking this. At some point in your build take leadership or better would be Undead Cohort and take a vampire. There is a feat in Heroes of Horror called Touch of Taint. This allows your vampire's bite to deliver corruption. Nowhere does it say being immune to the effect of the bite stops the corruption from being delivered. You have your vampire cohort bite you many times over until you are sick of it. Corruption goes throught the roof. Now reading the material, you'll notice the obvious problem of your taint getting too high and you dying or going insane from the effects. Well there is a lovely little line that says "undead are immune to all negative effects of corruption". And to top things off, you start with some corruption as it is. Undead start with corruption and depravity scores equal to 1/2 their CHA+1. So you see how obscene this is. You now have a character with an arbitrarily large number of bonus spells and arbitrarily large save dc's. I'd call that an effective build if I ever saw one. |

| PhaedrusXY12-27-06, 07:30 PM | Sorcerer and Vampire NPCs, eh? I posted some NPC builds here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=299444) that might interest you. They are fairly low CR (8 and 9), but it would be easy to boost them. Here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9740146&postcount=335) are the vampires, and here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9900566&postcount=371) is the sorcerer. |
| Hideous Phidias12-27-06, 11:35 PM | Dwarven Sorcerer, Use the Dwarven Racial sub levels out of Races of Stone Use the Stalwart Sorcerer out of Complete Mage p35 Use the Armorer mage out of Complete Mage p 32 Multiclass between fighter and sorcerer for the best effects of the variants. Doing this you will get an armored mage that will have the power to take the players by suprize. Also take feats like practiced spell caster out complete arcane, quicken spell still spell, combat casting and sheild casting Equipment: Mitheril full with the bonuc that makes it count as little. Dwarven war Heavy steel shield Scrolls potions The idea is to present the players with a dwarf that looks like the typical dwarf fighter, but in fact is a sorcerer with only one or two levels in it. the Stalwart combined with the dwarven sorcerer will give you a hitdie of D6+2+ con. This means thta you will be ok in close corters combat. Take spells to work with this, fight and cast spells to weaken people. |
| Endarire12-30-06, 01:15 AM | Hideous Phidias suggests a gish build with which I disagree. If you intend to go gish, there are better ways. As for the corrupting touch, why wouldn't that work if you used your lich's touch on yourself? -EE |
