Stats(unweighted 24pt): S:24+7 D:16+3 C:14+2 I:6-2 W:8-1 Ch:6-2. BAB:+10 Saves: I don't know/care Melee Attacks: +15/+15/+15/+15/+10/+10 with short reach, +17/+17/+17/+12 with long reach. The basic idea is flurry with a spiked chain, trip a lot of people (possibly wielding it TWF style), and then take your AoOs as they stand up. I know this has been done a million times, I just thought that this way was worthy of note. Class variant (exoticist) and fighting style from Dragon 310. |
| Hanniball08-03-03, 12:06 PM | does standing up from prone provoke AoO in 3.5? 3.0 didn't. |
| djinni08-03-03, 12:34 PM | isn't flurry of blows an unarmed combat technique? |

| Maruuk08-03-03, 02:37 PM | hehe. shaking your head at the non-rules monkeys wont help them :) to answer both questions... Yes in 3.5 standing up provokes an AOO. Hence the popularity of current trip character builds Secondly, the Shao Disciple PrC grants a class ability that lets you use your flurry of blows with non-monk weapons. It can be found in unapproachable east. |
| PlasteredKittyLizard08-04-03, 11:02 AM | Not sure, havent gotten to read the 3.5 books yet, but if thats the case, whats the point of improved trip in that case? |
| Zoner08-04-03, 03:27 PM | You might take a look at the Tribal Protector. It gives a char wild fighting, which is basicly a flurry, and for a lot fewer levels than Shou Disciple. It is also not limited to light weapons till later levels like the shou is. |
| Snow Savant08-04-03, 04:44 PM | Hi Catharz. :) Neato concept! One problem though. Half-Ogre has Barbarian as a preferred class. So Monk6/FtrExot1 causes an XP penalty scenario. Have you looked at making this build's prefix have a level of Barbarian so as to pick up the Wolf Berserker tripping feat from the RoF book? It's a good feat, and it allows you to bypass picking up Comb. Expertise as a pre-requisite. It's worth a look. And you can still enter the Shou Disciple PrC since it has no alignment restriction. Also, since you are Large and using a Trip Strategy, the Large-&-In-Charge feat from S&F would be a great combo. Lastly, check out that magic weapon enhancement property called Knockback (MoF and A&EG books). It costs +3, but with your amazing reach and trip emphasis, you'll have amazing control over the battlefield and you'll have a really percentage chance that hardly anyone will be able to ever close with you to get a full attack. Hope that helps. XO, Snow :) |
| catharz08-04-03, 08:00 PM | Wow, I had forgotten about crossclass XP penalties  Oh well... The wolf lodge feat certainly makes up for the lost monk feats. Unfortunately, the lack of greater flurry really hurts. Maybe the monk build is better suited to an enlarged human who can actually use the improved feint. 1 level of barbarian and wolf lodge does free up some feats though. Uunfortunately, there are probably at least 5 half-ogre wolf berzerkers running around. Maybe I'll update this in a bit. |
| Zoner08-04-03, 10:39 PM | Thing is though, do 2 class abilities to flurry stack? That's like saying if both classes give you evade, you get 2 evasion rolls. Wild fighting at least simulates flurry but is not specificly flurry. Both monk and shou disciple, who emulate monks, are flurrying. |

Shou disciple explicitly states that it stacks with monk for favorable # of attacks, as well as giving various flurry-related abilities. |
| devnull08-05-03, 12:53 AM | I think flurry and two-weapon fighting are mutually exclusive. The SRD states "there is no such thing as an off-hand attack for a monk striking unarmed". Is there something in the rules that point to you being able to both flurry and use two-weapon fighting? |
