I need to create the most powerful, min-maxed, uber character possible for a 30th level battle royale type deal. 3.0 rules, everything's allowed. Not too much spellcasting, thinking mostly of a melee brute. Thanks in advance for your help, guys.

You really need to define what "not too much spellcasting" means, as it will likely be the characters that push this line the most that will be the strongest.

Yeah I know.. this character is actually for my girlfriend. She's a pretty newbie D&D player, and isn't very comfortable with spellcasting.

The fact that spellcasters are more powerful than primarily melee characters is ok, since the other players aren't very experienced either, so it's likely that they won't have very powerful characters. Some spellcasting is ok, I'll help her out with the specifics... so far I think she wants to make a Monk with a Vow of Poverty. Thanks again

There is no VoP in 3.0 IIRC, and regardless probably not a good optimization choice. You can do a lot with gold at level 30, and throwing that away for the nice VoP bonuses makes it easier to build the character, but not a great optimized choice. mein_liar has a great post about optimized monks around here somehwere (It might be funny slaughter, but I think it's mein_liar) that should get you a nice build through level 20.

He isn't your liar, he is his own liar!

Heh. Its "Mean," not Mein. :D

As for a 30th level brute... 30th level is a terrible place for a newbie to be!!!

That said, a Monk with Vow of Poverty is just about the worst 30th level melee character I can think of. I would just make one of Mean's 20th level straight Monk builds, adapt it to VoP, and extrapolate it the extra 10 levels. Try to focus on one that dosen't use too much strategy

Thanks guys... we've figured the monk out enough.. it's just for a quick stupid thing anyways... i do realize that a VoP monk isn't all great at 30th, but that's what she wants to do. With regards to the "VoP isn't in 3.0" comments, it's basically a 3.0 game with pretty much anything from 3.5 in it.

So far we've come up with Cleric 1/Monk9/3.0 Sacred Fist 10/Initiate of Pistis Sophia 10. Quick&dirty, good enough, I guess. Thanks for the help, guys.

A fighter/barbarian/frenzied berserker/war hulk/The Brute/troll utilzing an epic level cloak of invisibility, an insane large vorpal mercurial greatsword of wrathful healing, sadism/masochism amulet, belt of +8 giant strength, boots of haste, ring of elemental protection (all the elements...the epic ring i believe gives 20 resistence to all elements). A Cold Mithril Breastplate +10. Ring of contingency heal - when said character is about to die of HP loss. Another ring of contingency true resurrect - when said character dies.

That in a nut shell will give you a monster that will devastate anything in its path.

on the build above... just do this on the rings, 1 of monsterous regeneration from Magic of Faerun + Favor of Ilmater, and then just get immunities to acid and fire, and physical and elemental damage mean nothing to you. regen converts all damage except fire and acid to subdual, Favor of Ilmater makes you immune to subdual. :schemes:

Until the caster tosses a save or die spell at you(particularly a will save one) and you crumble into dust.

I don't care how much damage you can do per round in melee if you can never touch me.

It's possible to make a level 30 melee-focused build that can conceivable compete against level 30 casters in an arena setting. But you'll be behind the power curve, even without epic spellcasting.

Doesn't the sadism/masochism amulet combo from BoVD grant you +1 to all saves for every 10 points of damage you deal and +1 for every 10 points of damage you receive? So if the wizard gets the first save or die spell as the very first action you can be really hosed. Hmm take Iron Will - that will help. I am sure there are other magical items that will help for Will saves.

uummm Vodalen, did you read the original post?... Yes spellcasters rule, that's a given fact, but what was asked was about a melee build. I just through in my 2 cents with a cheap way to make mostly ANY character not worry about physical and elemental damage, I did not say anything about save or die. Fine, then also get a permant deathward. Problem solved with the save or die instakill spell. 8p
