32 point buy for a Gnome Warlock? [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-27-06, 08:26 AM Alright CO board heres the deal:
Im going to be playing a gnome warlock in my groups next campagain, and were starting at lvl 3. So far ive yet to think of any stat progression that seems optimizated though i did think of one. Ill post it here but what do you guys think is a good stat build for a Ranged only blaster?

My Build:(After Racial Mods)
Str: 10 (4)
Dex: 16 (10)
Con: 16 (6)
Int: 12 (4)
Wis: 10 (2)
Cha: 14 (6)
(Note: I could move around 4 points in str and 2 points in wis if i wanted to, but im worried about str posion and carrying capacity, and idk if i want to play a weak willed character :P ) p.s. sorry for mispelling, im about to go to sleep

08-27-06, 08:57 AM Well, if you want to blast you need a good cha for the saves, so I would put at least 16 in cha & dex, con is not really important, you should never be in harms way with things like fly and invis, and you can blast from 250 feet if you need to. The rest seems ok

08-27-06, 01:57 PM So what points would you move around to make my Cha a 16, and could you post what your stats would look like? Also i chose to put a 14 in Con (16 after racials) because I wanted to get more bang out of my Gnomes Racial, and putting a 14 nets me 4 "free" points instead of making it a 12 which only nets me "2". Anyone else have a better stat build for a Ranged Blaster, im gonna be using my invocations alot and i think i will need a better cha.

08-27-06, 03:36 PM For a gnome blaster I would probably use the exact stats you have only switch dex and cha. There are quite a few good warlock invocations that have a save, including blasts, however; hitting ranged touch is about as easy as trying to hit the broad side of a barn from inside the barn.

The dex will be helpful at very low levels, but not so much after 4ish. The cha will be slightly less useful at those very low levels, but will become more and more useful as time goes on.

The rest of your stats look good.

08-27-06, 03:51 PM I forgot the racial bonus to con, so do what slyver said. Dont forget to take point blank shot, precise shot and ability focus: eldritch blast (from the monster manual, CA mentions this feat for warlocks, so it shouldnt be a problem to take it)
