I guess the title is self-explanatory. This is for an 8th level build and it's a just-in-case character, nothing concrete nor definitive, since I'm playing a ranger right now.

So far what I have is this (I don't have the DMG right now, so I don't remember all the ability score costs):

Race: Human Beguiler 6/Chamaleon 2

Str 8
Dex 14
Con 14
Int 18
Wis 12
Cha 8

The feat selection is like this:

1.- Able Learner
1.- Combat Expertise
3.- Weapon Finesse
6.- Improved Feint
9.- Arcane Strike
12.- Dodge
15.- Mobility
18.- Elusive Target

What I need is this:

1.- Needs lost of skillpoints, as well as decent spellcasting; I don't want to depend on how many times he's gotta use the Mimic ability

2.- He has to be a good infiltrator

3.- Needs to control the battlefield with the spells he has (this is the reason I chose Beguiler), as well to hold himself good in a fight, maybe not as good as a true warrior, but decent enough.

The books my DM allows are:

Draconomicon
The complete series (minus mage, psionic, and scoundrel [:weep:] )
The Race series (minus dragons)
Frostburn
Sandstorm
Stormwrack (I'm not completely sure, but the party's bard is looking for a hat from there, so far the DM hasn't said no)
Spell Compendium

Also, I'm seriously thinking on later to turn him into a Mindbender, or maybe a Spymaster, but that would mean to loose the spellcasting, which is a big no-no.

I just saw that the costs were way off. I corrected that.

Personally, I would lose those feats in place of some that up the save DC of your enchantment/illusion spells.

Combat expertise: if you're playing the beguiler right, why are you making so many AoOs? Why would you be in the middle of melee anyway?

Weapon FInesse: same issue. YOu aren't good at damage, you're good at casting. IMO, the only thing your weapon is good for is feinting to up your save DCs.

Dodge/Mobility: IMO, equally useless. Get a reach weapon to feint if need be. Also, if you are in melee with an enemy, and you feint, they become flat-footed in relation to you, thus unable to take an attack of opportunity, thus making Mobility useless.

A Beguiler jut won't hold up in a real fight. If you want to control the battlefield, your spells are the way to do it, and those feats are just taking up space.

It seems like it doesn't help that much, but my Beguiler took spell focus and imp spell focus for both schools, and it really does make all the difference. Enemies just can't save against my spells. I have no trouble immobilizing the enemies, then feeding them off to my allies a few at a time.
