Hi, never played a Healer (from the miniatures book) would love to know what you guys could do with a 32 point buy build, focusing on two things: healing and filling the 2nd place melee type in the party behind the fighter.

Race, not bothered but like halfelf and human.
weapons, armor is difficult as not allowed to use much. :)

Healer sucks. You're much better off playing a cleric.

If you want a healer/2ndary melee type, play a Cleric, not a Healer. They call the Healers for a reason!

Augment Healing (CD) is a must. Magic of the Land (RotW) is another possibility. Unfortunately, the damned Healer doesn't get Turning, so DMM is out. Chain or Reach spells IS a possibility though.

I seem to remember a Radiant Servant of Pelor vs Healer heal-off.

I'd go Human.

Darkleaf from Eberron CS could get you a Breastplate that counts as light armor.

Anyways, I think you're probably better off playing a Cleric. They're VASTLY superior to the Healer.
Edit: WHY be a cleric over a healer? Let me count the ways:
3/4 BAB
Heavy armor, shields
Turn Undead (Divine Metamagic, Divine Feats, both VERY good)
Spell List (Divine Power, Righteous Might, Divine Favor, and a plethora of other buff spells. WAY better spell list)
Domains (even BETTER spell list, not to mention the granted abilities)
PrC availability (Turn Undead, Knowledges, as well as spells qualify you for PrCs a LOT easier)
Flexibility (Better fighter than fighter, buffer, healer, face, undead killer, utility caster to some extent)

Extremely limited spell list. There is no spell on the Healer list that the Cleric can't prepare - and let's not forget the spontaneous casting of Cure X Wounds spells. But the Cleric gets all armor and simple weapons, Turn Undead and 2 domains, compared to limited use status-effect removers (although the last 2 are kinda nice, but not worth waiting for).
