| Fatalis_90209-12-06, 02:59 PM | I have come up with an awesome idea for a character build, but I have just one question. Is it possible? The build is 20 levels of Dragon Shaman, 5 levels of Dragon Devotee, 10 levels of Dragon Disciple. This gives some great abilities, but it also grants two templates. My question is this: would the abilities granted by the templates stack, or would the half-dragon replace the draconic template? |
| Fatalis_90209-13-06, 02:37 PM | Hello? |
| Fatalis_90209-17-06, 05:50 PM | Will SOMEONE please tell me if this works or not??? PLEASE?!? |
| GDarius09-17-06, 06:00 PM | I'm unaware of a rule that states Dragons are unable to be half-dragons (each parent was a different color dragon, check here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=703337) for a humorous use of the idea). Likewise, I'm unaware of a rule limiting a creature to one template. You need to be a "non-dragon" to qualify for Dragon Disciple, but as I understand it, you wouldn't be one yet at that stage. |
| LordBOB77709-17-06, 06:45 PM | sounds plausible, as long as you go into DD first. EDIT: I didnt see Dragon Devotee before i posted. Or maybe I forgot. |
| LordBOB77709-17-06, 06:50 PM | I do not believe that a Dragon Shaman grants you a template. You would have to split up the levels of Dragon Devotee and Dragon Disciple because it looks as though the Devote grants you the Dragonblood subtype, so you might not qualify for the Dragon Disciple. |
| Fatalis_90209-17-06, 08:29 PM | Dragon Shaman doesn't grant a template (which sucks). Dragon devotee does grant Dragonblood subtype, if only due to the Draconic template. I have no idea if that will disqualify me for Dragon Disciple. Hmm... perhaps if I take 4 levels of Dragon Devotee, and then... I guess the main question here is: I get all the ability bonuses as seperate class features from Dragon Devotee, so could I take the levels in devotee, except fifth, and then take levels of dragon disciple, and then come back and take the fifth level of Dragon Devotee, so I can get the Con bonus? |
| Bill Bisco: Average Adventurer09-17-06, 09:52 PM | Strangely, the build does work Fatalis as long as you finish up the Dragon Devotee levels first. The Draconic template doesn't make you a dragon. It just gives you the dragonblooded Subtype. (it makes you a magical beast if you were an animal but meh). So, although a Draconic Half-Dragon is a little redundant. It is nevertheless legal. Edit: Though, I will note that I would still rather put up the LA of 5 for being a Draconic Half-Dragon than ever take 15 levels to get the same thing |
| LordBOB77709-17-06, 10:02 PM | I mentioned this to a buddy of mine and thats exactly what he said to do...take 4 levels in Devotee, and than all 10 in DD, and finsh the last level in Devotee. I dont know if having the dragonblood subtype would disqualify you for DD. Dragon Devotee says that you have to be Nondragon, cant have the draconic template. Dragon Disciple says that you have to be Nondragon, cant already be a half-dragon. Now Devotee says you gain the other abilities from the Draconic Template, but it is unclear if you actually gain that template. Now if having the dragonblood subtype is the same as being dragon/half-dragon, than you cant do it. EDIT: I see that the question was answered before i could finish what i was saying...please disregard my post. |
| Fatalis_90209-18-06, 08:34 PM | See, the 15 extra levels is just me trying to figure out what the **** to do with my already 20th level Dragon Shaman. Plus it's good for roleplaying purposes. And starting as a half-dragon is out of the question, seeing as you do not gain some of the abilties from the PrC. And it turns out that the Con bonus comes from the 3rd level in Dragon Devotee, not the 5th. |
| Bill Bisco: Average Adventurer09-18-06, 08:40 PM | Dragonfire Adept? :D What abilities? The only abilities I see are some measly spell slots that don't benefit you, and 2 caster levels that don't benefit you. It'd be better to get bitten by a Werebear or something, perhaps bitten just right to become a half-Vampire, or maybe pay a wizard to give you multi-headed or something :) |
| LordBOB77709-19-06, 02:20 AM | wouldnt it be a level 36 build? Dradon Disciple says you have to be able to cast arcane spells without preparation, so you need at least 1 level of Sorc./Bard right? |
| Fatalis_90209-19-06, 03:40 PM | BOB, check the Dragon Devotee class. Bill, in this order. 1. I hate the dragonfire adept. 2. Abilties such as Blind Sense, mainly. 3. I play with character builds based on roleplying, not so much mechanical strength. And by the way, it's not so much the templates, so much as the abilities. If I was to go with the half-dragon template, my abilities would not be as good as those gained from the classes. Besides, it only applies to epic levels, where you have extra levels to throw around, especially if you went purist with your base class. |
| LordBOB77709-19-06, 08:05 PM | alright, i missed the small part that said you can become a first level sorcerer |
| LordBOB77709-20-06, 12:12 AM | So what would you do about the Breath Weapons? The Dragon Shaman gives you a 10d6 breath weapon and the Dragon Disciple would give you a 6d8 breah weapon. Lets say you picked a Green Dragon for everything, what would happen? I would say you just add everything together, but im not the best at this. |
| Fatalis_90209-20-06, 08:02 PM | Actually, I do not believe that the breath weapons would stack. You would presumably have the one from your shaman class, and it would not be replaced by, or stack with, the Disciple breath weapon. Either that, or you would gain two breath weapons, one usable once per day, the other usable about 43,200 times per day. Still, that is a good question, any ideas, others? |
